    Hello. Im trying to fix GTX 960 2GB GIGABYTE and I'm stuck. I do have all main voltages 12V, 5V and 3.3V. Vcore voltage is low, around 500mV and there is no Vram voltage at all. Linear dropout regulator has 5V Vdd but no Vin and no Enable. RT8120D (single phase buck regulator - i assume its responsible for controlling memory voltage ) has 12V on BOOT and 12V on Vcc , PHASE-ON and ENABLE - 0V. Am I right to assume that RT8120D might be faulty? Any advice? Man y thanks!

    Hello. I have a PALIT 970 that started to black screen and the would no longer display anything , so I followed your instructions and measured voltages and resistances. All 0R resistors and fuses are OK, the resistances are OK (95R for mem, 4.5R for core) and all voltages from 12V to 1.05V LDO generated rail (that was broken in your video) are fine, but after a few seconds the mem and core voltage go to 0. Have you seen this behavior before? Is there some kind of Enable that commands the card to startup?

    Awsome quick detailed repair I have a question on the rog strix gtx 1070 how does the ina3221 circuit work as I have a problem the three channels all have their voltages I have ground but my card reports idle and 0.0% tdp and card won't boost past its base clock but it still runs stable in games and cool at 54'c at 0.800mv on core confused as to how the data lines tell the gpu die the power consumption cheers from edd

    • @TechCemetery
      @TechCemetery  3 роки тому

      I'm actually not that familiar with how the current sensing/balancing circuitry works. On GPU-Z, do the power readings for the 8 pin and the PCIe look normal? sometimes on these cards that are stuck at base clock, you can see the PCIe connector 12V power draw reading in the 300W+ range. As for the current balancing, the INA 3221 chip has circuitry ( probably resistors) that connect to both sides of a shunt resistor. They measure the voltage drop across the shunt resistor and use it to calculate the power consumption. Are any of the capacitors next to the INA 3221 short?.
      If you figure it out, let me know.

      @@TechCemetery I brought the card after successfully fixing my strix and fought it was fun so brought this as faulty stuck at 139mhz and knew from before that the ina3221 controller was responsible for this so ow and behold the ina3221 chip was baked and had damaged the components around the chip and aslo welded itself to the board I removed the chip soldered new chip and three new caps and six resistors had to use some copper wire to complete the circuits as the damage had knackered traces and pads and now the card works just it's not actually seeing the voltages at the die I have on idle 0.005v drop on each 12v rail but the die just doesn't get that measurement 😔

    Great video bro, i am beginner in electronic repair, i gave à little vit of knowlage but how do you always figure where is the 5v line / 3.3v ..etc on the board ? Is there any advices you can provide to spot those lines ? Thanks a lot for knowlage sharing

    • @TechCemetery
      @TechCemetery  3 роки тому

      Just experience, 5V and sometimes 3.3V is basically always used for VCC on many phase controllers and buck converters found on semi-modern cards. Where Enable is usually in the range of 3.3V-1.8V. Again, it's just from having seen a lot of dead cards. Because of this, you can often use a continuity check from the VCC pin on a buck converter or phase controller to see which inductor is connected to 5V. Also on semi-modern cards, if there's an LDO, there's a very high chance it's job is to take 12V and output 5V.

    At a guess what would you say your strike rate is with regards to successfully repairing graphics cards compared to ones that are completely dead and used for parts?

    • @TechCemetery
      @TechCemetery  3 роки тому

      This depends heavily on the model, on a PCB as awful as the reference PCB for the GTX 1070, 1070 Ti, and 1080, I would say more than half of these cards have a dead GPU. On something tamer like an RX 580, and in particular a Sapphire RX 580, less than 10% of the cards I get have dead GPUs.

    The datasheet states that the feedback voltage should be ~0.8V. But when R1=2.4k, R2=2.6K and Vout=1.05V. the feedback voltage would be 0.546V. Why are the resistors values correct here. am I missing something?

    • @TechCemetery
      @TechCemetery  3 роки тому +1

      If I remember right, the formula given for FB would suggest that the output voltage would be 1.6V roughly speaking. But since VIN is really low (1.55V), the output is then limited to 1.05V. If VIN was say 5V, VOUT would be higher.
      Or so I think that's what is going on.

    I know this video was uploaded more than a year ago but I am having a different problem. All the tests have been done and all voltages are present including 1.0 V out from PEX (GS7103).
    The VGA card is still not being recognised. I have removed and checked the BIOS which is correct. The GS7103 IC does get quite hot on this card after a few seconds but appears stable.
    Any ideas on what else it can be ?. Any help will be appreciated.
    EDIT: There is also 27 MHz coming from the crystal. The resistance on the PEX 1V output to ground is only 0.7 Ohms but yet still gives out 1.0 V when powered.

    My gpu freezes my computer each time I load a game. But it doesnt if the game doesnt require much work. Its a RX 580 8gb. Maybe I can pay for videochat helping me troubleshoting. I have Osciloscope, hot air gun and solder iron.

      I can only suggest you check the inductors of the GPU VRM under load to see if any of them have an abnormal waveform. Generally cards that are unstable at load tend to have degraded GPUs. There's not much advice I can give you.

    Excellent video. I just found your channel and troubleshooting these cards seems really interesting.
    I have a bit of a long shot question here, but I have the same card that I had bought non-working on Ebay with the Q22 Mosfet burnt out as in this forum #24 forums.evga.com/GTX-970-FTW-Mosfet-burnt-out-Q22-m2712344.aspx. I got the card working by removing Q21 if I remember correctly as replacing Q22 would cause the replacement Mosfet to burn out immediately. Additionally, I added a thermal pad on the Mosfets, a piece of Aluminum stock, and another thermal pad to contact the cooler for active cooling of the Mosfets making sure the added aluminum did not touch any components with capton tape. The card has worked fine apart from the graphics driver resetting randomly. It often does it 5 minutes after loading windows and sometimes after an extended period under load from gaming (over 2 hours).
    Would the absence of these Mosfets cause this issue or could this be some other problem?
    It's done this issue throughout several driver updates and I tried reflashing the BIOS but yet the problem remains. It's a livable problem but it can be annoying to deal with.
    Thanks

    Why should you put this 'simple' fix on youtube? You've already taken care of it, put effort in to it, no question to put up video like this.

    Good job, maybe you can improve your channel if you also share the soldering work, anyway thank you...
