  • This is not a Triumph Speedmaster review. I took the Bonneville T120 into Triumph West Yorkshire for some news tyres and while they were busy doing that, they very kindly lent me a Speedmaster for the afternoon.
    So seeing as I had it for a couple of hours, I took the opportunity to make a small video. There's no drone work and I managed to smash a GoPro in the process so it's only short , reduced fat video.
    I hope you like it all the same though.

    As an owner and fan of a T100 I advise you to try the Speed Master for more than a day. At different paces, let her glide you thought the wind and imagination. You'll discover that is like owning three bikes in one and also that she's is a different Bonneville. It took more than one thousand miles riding mine to really enjoy her sweetness and strong capabilities. Recently I took off the catalytic converted and installed an X Pipe. The ride feeling is first class, is beautiful to look at and sounds awesome. But also... it has to be said... your T120 is also a beautiful sweetheart.

    Strange seeing a virgin Speedmaster, I bought mine, also red, brand new about 12 months ago..
    Spent a fortune on Motone and Triumph aftermarket parts.. Absolutely love this bike.. After my motocamping trips, I remove the pillion seat, the backrest and rack and put the bobber finishing set on and ride around the rest of the year and early into the next with a single seat bobber, come the next summer back she goes into touring trim...
    Been binge watching your videos for days now.. absolutely loving them.. just waiting for a break in the weather to hit the passes on my Speedy Triumph..

      I very much enjoyed my afternoon on the Speedmaster, I always thought it was the best looking Bonnie, still not exactly sure why I got the T120 over one. I don’t regret the T120 of course, it was just a very 50/50 decision.
      Glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the videos, I too am waiting for the weather to improve to get out there and make some more videos.

      I was close to buying a T120 black myself.. but I just thought the Speedmaster as an edge for my needs.. and the bobber that I love, well that is just totally impractical but looks so good..

    I’ve just traded my Speedmaster in for a T120. I look the Speedmaster, and for shorter rides it’s very comfortable. But the foot positioning gives me some back ache after a while, and the mid controls are no good because the seat height is so low; my knees end up being above my hips which also gives the old back jip.
    So far the exchange has been a good one, although the sound isn’t quite the same, and it doesn’t turn as many heads as the drop dead gorgeous Speedmaster.

    • @ClassicRides
      @ClassicRides  Рік тому

      I agree with you there, the Speedmaster wins in terms of sound and looks. But I’d still have a T120 over it for just a more useable machine (while still exuding a fair bit of style).

    Nice to see you on a Speedmaster! I appreciate that you prefer your T120 though, especially now you've put so many miles in on it.
    For me the cruiser-ish style and ride and position is perfect, but for someone needing something a little more practical with all your camping and touring, the T120 is probably a better fit, though they are very similar in most ways.
    RIP GoPro. That did seem a little low hehe

      I think in a lot of ways it’s more comfortable than my T120, I guess you just like what you’re used to though. It’s a brilliant bike, really enjoyed having it for the afternoon, so much I wasn’t really that annoyed at smashing a GoPro 😁

      @@ClassicRides I found the T100 I had before comfy, but have a dodgy knee I broke years back that doesn't like folding up for long, so having a lovely classic triumph that also has feet forward a little, so knees less bent, means I can ride all day no problem. The sitting up and back with the comfort seat and beach bars I love too. It's just perfect for me.
      Someone tall and/or preferring a more 'active' crouch might not like it, though?
      Like you though, I found it initially odd, but surprisingly quick to get used to the cruiser ride position. I would advise anyone to try it before dismissing it.
      Some cruisers have you folded in two. Not the Speedmaster.
      I'm going on now hehe...

    • @ClassicRides
      @ClassicRides  2 роки тому +2

      @@bigdavedogdad you’re not going on at all, it’s interesting the reasons why people ride the bikes they do. I think the perfect bike for me is maybe a T120 with Speedmaster bars, I found them really comfy. But then I don’t have long arms so they extra reach is great for me. 😁

    • @Disposalist
      @Disposalist 2 роки тому

      @@ClassicRides I'm 5'9" and always felt the bars on my T100 were just a little of a reach, so I installed the Motone up-and-over bar risers. They bring the bars 1 inch up and one inch back and that felt pretty good. Enough to feel a difference, but no need to lengthen cables.
      Fitted them to my Speedmaster, too, not that they really needed it. The other advantage is the centre of the bars is then not covered by the Triumph plate and it's a great central spot to mount a SatNav or camera.

    • @ClassicRides
      @ClassicRides  2 роки тому +2

      @@Disposalist I have those same risers fitted on my bike, they're a great bit of kit. It's just a small difference in position, but it sure does help with longer journeys or shorter arms 😁
