I love hearing a sane retelling of a tragic incident. If this were in the US, everyone would be suing everybody else. You'd be looking at massive bills for the rescue, doubly so with a helicopter involved. Instead, you're able to focus on healing well and getting back out on the water! I'm *really* happy for you and glad to see your recovery is going well!
I truly believe there was no harm intended from both parties, both parties should have been more aware and because of a unlucky mix of factors something terrible happened that could have ended much worse. A lesson to all involved and hopefully this helps preventing others from future incidents like these ✌️

The still of taking a photo of that Awesome fish on your boat with the freighter in the background looks like you can see a lot of the side of it so it’s trajectory is going to miss you by a mile, hopefully a ships Pilot will see this video and clear up the matter.

I was thinking the same. It looks like only one side of the boat took serious damage. These marcraft fishing boats seem really durable and massively built. Probably would have looked different with a 2mm aluminium fishing boat...

Jeetjemina, wát een verhaal Sean! Ongelooflijk!😳😳 De boot zal wel total loss en verschrot zijn neem ik aan? Maar het belangrijkste van alles is toch dat je het overleefd hebt en verder geen blijvende schade er aan hebt overgehouden. Je gezondheid is, hoe cliché ook, toch het allerbelangrijkste wat er is. De boot is maar blik moet je denken en kan vervangen worden, je gezondheid niet al ben je miljardair. Dit verhaal had ik niet verwacht eerlijk gezegd. Ik dacht meer in de richting van per ongeluk op een rots gevaren die net iets onder water lag en dus niet zichtbaar was ofzo. Het gevaar zit em in een klein hoekje en ik heb op dit soort wateren vaak een stijve nek van het steeds omkijken omdat ik me heel bewust ben van dit gevaar. En toch zie je kan het alsnog gebeuren. Je maat Sven is inderdaad z'n gewicht in goud waard geweest. Gedurende je betoog heb ik een paar keer goed moeten slikken en moet hier toch even van bijkomen vriend. Stay safe and healthy!
Swenn is a mf hero. I have been in some hairy situations with the dude but he always manages to keep his head cool. Even in a big galeforce storm on the atlantic in a 17 ft boat. Best man to have on a boat!!!
Did the freighter notice that they hit you? Did they stop or just continue? You would think they also have GPS tracking and after the fact can see if they were still in shipping lane or not.

Glad you made it mate, that's some scary shit taking a hit from such a large vessel! Take care buddy! We got hit by a small sailing yacht in more or less the same way, but it was 100% the other boats fault. That's on a UK reservoir in a hire boat. We got off quite lightly from the impact, but a couple of rods got smashed. My mate stupidly went to the sailing club and punched out the person who hit us.
So frightening! Fear of remaining tied up to the boat and fear of the props 😬😬😬. Some years ago I went fishing with my father (🙏) and coming back home we had to cross above a small bridge between two islands: we were just entering the channel under the bridge when another boat came full throttle in the opposite direction. Our boat was an old 15' Boston Whaler which has very low edge. The other boat made a very high and steep wave and we had the boat on the left, the right pillar of the bridge on the right and the wave in front of us. My Dad knew the danger of being capsized against the pillar and shout at me " GRAB TIGHT!!!.." ..he put the hand on the throttle and pushed the engine...we made a big jump and fell back on the water. I hit the deck with my knee but anything else fortunately. Then I turned back and saw the other boat running away..I picked up a fishing lead and threw against the boat hitting the stern. And raged a lot..
The another boat was faraway.... how that idiot didn't seen that your boat was floating there.... 🤔.... Nice to see that you are OK 💪💪💪 extreme life situation....
You cannot stop a big freighter ship at transit speed in short distance. It will take 5-10 vessel length pending on weather/current/ vessel condition. Ship looks like about 80m so 400-800 meters stopping length. Something to keep in mind.
