I have a 1993 S-10 that came with a 2.8L V6/5 speed. After a lot of work and money, it now has a 383ci small block V8 and a 4 speed. The rear axle is a modified Posi 3.88.
This is normal for me, I'm 55 now and have had a V8 swapped S10 since I was 22, all different variations, even a big block at one time, that wasn't as fun as you would think, too squirrely, the current LS1 and T56 is the most fun one yet.
I approve! Just out of highschool a friend of mine bought an 87 GMC Jimmy that someone'd swapped a mild cammed L98 into. Motor wasn't anything super amazing, dyno'd like 212hp but 330 torque at teh rear wheels. That thing did the 2nd gear boogie from a roll HARD.
Ranger and old-school S10 are the best damn small trucks ever made. Not the new "mini-150" Rangers, the old ones, like my 2001. Those two trucks are legends. Even more so when V8 swapped!
@@fourfortyroadrunner6701 I have that 4.0 engine in mine. The big problem was a bad cassette design on the four chains. Cheap oil caused them to have issues. Mine has only had factory oil and we're at 352,000mi now with no issues.

It was actually an empty gallon plastic jug. Milk or water or something. Got pinned under the lower control arm and drug it for 100ft or so. I wasn't worried about it at all
Mildly Jelly. I had a super nice '96 Orvis ZJ with the 5.2 magnum and so badly wanted to 5.9/nv3500 swap it. Miss the old girl, wish I'd never sold it. Hopefully one day I can find myself a 69-71 duster in decent shape with the 'ole leanin' tower-o-power for cheap. Discovered that Hughes Performance makes a "360/426 stroker kit for the magnum roller motors that makes like 650hp and isn't terribly expensive to build. That'd be a neat combination!
the NV wouldnt put up with that. lol. the stock 5.9, already, from what i've heard, has slightly more torque than this transmission was tested to be able to handle. and there is basically no aftermarket for the NV3500, so what you see is kinda what you get with them. most of the time, any self respecting 5.9 is gonna make that thing hurt. letalone anything w anymore power.

Yes sir, you would use this same nv3500 transmission, but from a 4.3/ 5 speed 4x4 S10. You will need a flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate for a 4.8/ 5 speed silverado
@@montehuseby1640 Yes, I have the 4.3 4x4 nv3500. And that 4.8 flywheel and clutch kit is what I need to know. This 4.3 runs great, still drive it every day. I paid 600 for this '96 3 years ago because it was missing 5th and reverse. Tore the trans down and replaced the shift fork $52 part. I did a 350 into a zr blazer for someone else and I wasn't impressed. All the work and cost of headers, radiator, oil pan... maybe if it had the 5sp instead of auto, because this 4.3 with 5sp beats the 350 auto off the line. Thanks again.
Also, just today I bought a '92 Blazer 4x4 v6 vin z with a 5 speed in pretty good shape and drove it 35 miles home at 80mph for $1000. Have to id the trans in it.@@montehuseby1640
@timthemechanix I have a 4.3 5 speed s10 too, they're pretty rare. Mines 2wd though, I love that little truck but I messed up the engine in it, it still runs but it knocks and squeals like crazy, you can't kill the 4.3. I really want to LS/350 swap it.
Do you know if it has the nv3500 5 speed? They say some come with a different 5speed. I know this one is tough as nails and the same that comes behind the big v8's. I bought this one and sold a ''94 that came with a vortec v6 that had tbi. The engine had thrown rod and I found it unusual because the vortec heads on later 4.3 had spider injectors and I would have had to change ecms. Also the '94 vortec had a metal timing cover without crank sensor, so I put the .94 heads onto a 1999 4.3, then used the metal timing cover after a few mods. Ignition system was also the pre-spider with cap wire pointing upward. It also had the 5 speed with manual shift trans case. But the only way I would install an LS on a manual trans would be remove the front clip and cab. 2 wheel not so bad, I guess but 4x4 is too much.@@AndrewPruteanu
