fun fact Raisins is based on the real life franchise Hooters,
Hooter referring to the waitress breasts
and Raisins referring to the fact all the waitress girls are flat chested.
also this was the introduction of the Goth kids, one of my favourite side character groups in the whole show.
Ironic how the goth kids were created for the audience to not like them their very philosophy was hypocritical about conformists and all. Yet they became second to the 4 boys in terms of popularity

Butters' "I love life" speech is one of my favorite speeches, and not just in South Park.

I like how Cartman is all about the food, while everyone else (except stan) are about the girls.
Butters is my spirit animal for better or worse. I like that this episode sheds some light on the reason for his innocence, optimism and naïveté. It’s a choice grounded in his own worldview and philosophy. Much like the Goth kids only he has a very different set of beliefs and he’s willing to stand alone. And that’s why Cartman will always take advantage of him. 😃😔 Also why Cartman will never truly get the best of him.

I will say as a goth myself, the difference between goths and emos is simply the music they listen to. Attitude has nothing to do with it. Goths listen to bands in the frame of Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie snd the Banshees, etc. (Henrietta even has a Blauhaus poster in her room). Emos tend to go for bands like Sunny Day Real Estate.
The goths in South Park fall into that weird area where they are simultaneously the most stereotypical but accurate portrayals of goth I’ve seen in media. While they do listen to the same music as me, I don’t think I’d like to associate with the South Park goths.
Oh, and Cradle of Filth isn’t a goth band. They’re a gothic metal band. Yeah, I know it has the word “gothic” in it, but that genre is an off shoot of doom metal which has no relation to goth rock which has its roots in post-punk.
This is like the only episode where Butters's parents act like decent parents

Fun Fact: All The Raisins Girls are named after cars. Mercedes, Lexus, Ferrari, Porsche, etc.
This is a reference to how strippers, escorts, party girls tend to often be named (or use as a pseudonym) after car brands.

Raisins is actually a popular Chain in California.
Colorado is almost as progressive as Cali though so Raisins started opening up there.
It can only exist in the Progressive states though, For some reason Conservatives have a problem with the business idea.

Cradle of Filth has been my favorite band for 20+ years. i only listen to their older albums, even though im not a fan of their new sound at all, still my favorite band.

He thought a girl whos whole job was to manipulate other boys into giving her money actually liked him and not once does it get thru his head they arent a thing at all tikk she spelled it out to him.

I have never seen this episode until just now with you. Amazing episode, definitely needed that considering I had my own problems with someone who cheated. It was sad but I've had help from family, and friends, and even watching TV with you on UA-cam and I was already feeling better but what Butters said plus the way Stan stood up for himself at the end the amazing little bowtie on a great, sad, beautiful, stressful, and hard but life changing year. Good luck to everyone with everything for whoever sees this. There's always someone who cares🙂
My favorite part of this episode is how Butters totally Owns the Goth Kids.
12:52 eh, both are centered around hating the world, just like punk, which both subcultures were born from. Goths tend to be more based around deriving enjoyment from humor or beautiful aesthetics among it all, and emos tend to be more nihilistic, channeling that into their music. Both are highly musical scenes, though.
Basically, to grossly oversimplify it, when punk followed the example of Johnny Rotten over GG Allin, goths took a pinch of GG Allin and drowned it in black paint, coffeehouses and clove cigarettes, while emos drank some nihilism and a pinch of the dying skater culture, dyed their clothes black, and stuck neon highlights on them.

Speaking as an almost middle aged American leftist, it's understandable that he mentions the left more. He is young and foreign. His interactions with Americans will be with young people, who skew left and leaves out the broader culture that is right wing, and political debate through the internet loses a whole lot of nuance that person to person interaction provides. It's much harder to discuss politics online without coming off a a little fanatical or sanctimonious. Offline it can be more of a friendly discussion.

Cradle of Filth is not even close to goth (that doesn't mean bad). Goth is closer to punk, with glam rock, synthpop, and New Wave influences. Goths often also like industrial and EBM music.
Emo is it's own genre of music.

There is a reason for that. The goth subculture actually splintered off _from_ punk. They wanted to focus less on the politics than the punk subculture was into at the time. Like GG Allen without the same level of hedonism, vs the Johnny Rotten school of punk.

Wendy is advanced for her age, being intelligent and showing interest in hot button issues, but she does have her shallow/wishy-washy moments, especially when it comes to STAN, like this episode, plus the one when they had the flag debate and she kissed Cartman in public, in front of everyone including Stan and expected him to be cool with it.
