The Lion King yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But don't forget Shrek the Third and Epic, please.
Don’t forget Lightyear! That movie is amazing!
The Fact that this movie was made 12 years later after the first film means that the audience from that movie were already in College during this movie’s release aka similar to how the characters in this movie are in college
Same thing with Toy story 2 and Toy Story 3 and Finding nemo and Finding Dory
The incridibles and Incredibles 2
Yup this movie was released the same year I started my freshman year of college. It was perfect timing!
I love this little detail!!! The timing is perfect!
was really good timing as well. Cuz the movie was very helpful for me to watch during that time
Thats explain why I thinked this one was better made than the other one🤔
From expelled students, to Top Scaring team, to CEO and Top Jokester. The look on Hardscrabble's face when she realizes the two idiots she expelled revolutionized the energy industry must be priceless.
Yup. Basically made all her work and notoriety obsolete lol
Even tho they basically undid all the Scarer work she did and trained other monsters to do, I think Hardscrabble would low-key be proud that they managed to flip the entire Monster World upside down. It would just be another unexpected surprise for her, and she's someone who's hard to surprise.
I’d like to think that realistically, she may have been pretty upset at first and may have even seen Mike and sully’s transition into laughter energy as a mockery and disgrace to the natural biology of monsters and having to be “scary”. But would eventually come to accept it seeing that it benefited society much more and that scaring had gone past its point of effectiveness having to adapt and evolve into something more useful. Though, she may have also felt disappointed that her work and life as a scarer was for nothing realizing that scientifically laughter had always been more powerful than scaring.
Honestly, she seems like the type of monster that would be proud of someone proving her wrong.
She did say at the end she hopes that they keep surprising people
14:20 that's a reference to Boo in the first movie!
Her file says she's afraid of snakes. That's why Randall was her monster. And when she saw Sulley roar, she cried instead of screaming.
Dang, that is pretty clever.
Except that Randall is a chameleon. Not a snake.
@@commandixnostalgia2321 doesn't matter. The point is she has a monster with reptilian skin.
@@commandixnostalgia2321 I'd scream if I saw a reptile appear from nowhere and scare me.
The Dean said the child was a boy
Whether you like this movie or not, Monsters University is the perfect example on how you do a prequel.

Damn straight
A slight bit of continuity error but still a great movie
So much heart
@@TimotheeReacts TimotheeReacts and Angelina Reaction TMNT
@@saibot7962less continuity error and more just outright retcon. Continuity errors usually tend to make things not make sense anymore, whereas a retcon is just them making things different for the benefit of both stories
For some people my age, the message “If you were not destined to be born talented in this field, then try to find a position related to this field” is quite relevant. About the same thing, ,,Monsters at work'' tried to convey to Disney +.
I has always said "Hard work beats talent", sadly it's not always works.
It’s also good for ppl w/ disabilities. Since the implication seems more like that scariness is a monster standard and not a talent
This movie is soooooo underrated.
It's along the same vein as Soul, when they remind you just because your life doesn't go the way you planned, doesn’t make everything you went through is worthless.
still a movie that I have to check out Soul! heard mixed things about it but still interested
@@TimotheeReacts without spoiling it: I honestly think Pixar finally managed to answer the question, "What is the meaning of life?"
I cannot believe Disney even considered recasting Mike and sulley with younger actors. I’m glad billy Crystal and John goodman returned.
I Don't know if anyone else noticed this but the end scene where Mike goes into the cabin with all those children explains why he doesn't like boo
Its amazing how randall started from a nerd guy and evolve to the heartless bastard in the first monster inc 👀
Fun fact: One of those monsters that was in the team that was disqualified from the scare games after the first round is George, A.K. A. 2319 Monster.
I knew the guy looked familiar!
@@Duckkis Me too. I just couldn’t figure out who it was at first.
That's funny, in spanish is 3312
The lesson this movie taught is pretty valuable than ever for college kids: "if you don't succeed in something, don't give up, because there IS something else you can do greatly", just how Mike wanted to become a Scarer but after failing he found passion on other place, that being his impecable coaching.
And what if there is no passion to be found somewhere else? My passion lies in game development, but I lack multiple necessary talents for is - can't make music, can't draw graphics. I failed as a dev, never gonna be one, and now I'm a mechanic, which I am good at, but not due to talent and it's not what I wanted, there is no passion there.
@@Dark_Starvoid gotta keep searching, cuz there will have something
The training montage in this movie was my favorite part. Mike may not be the best scarer, but he makes a great coach.
14:18- That explains why Boo cried when Sully roared at her. Mary was afraid of snakes, hence Randell. Technically he can camouflage with backgrounds, like a chameleon but he does slither like a snake too.
18:52- Princess Bride reference, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
35:28- One of the students did say her calculations on that door were off, if you didn't catch that.
36:35- Mike reminds me of Dwayne from Little Miss Sunshine(I won't spoil it).
37:57 The scene of young Sullivan scaring the adult human rangers gives them a reminder that their childhood nightmare didn't die the whole time.
It has returned stronger than ever. 😱
Even adults can be scared. You just need the right environment, and the right way of bringing out your worst childhood nightmare to life.
@@tararocksong5085 a creepy doll and somthing tiny crawling around 😵
@@SprayInk-And-CritGlitch, yep that’ll work effectively.
Monsters University is a great animated prequel film! In a way, I relate to Mike in this film because I’ve been told that I couldn’t succeed in what I was trying to accomplish by my past school superiors a lot. At this point in my life, I’ve proven them wrong because I’m currently less than two weeks away from becoming a graduate in animation!
𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔!! ☺️🥰
@@16taysia Thank you!
I’m glad you weren’t exactly like Mike in that it wasn’t impossible for you, congrats!
This movie is so underrated, and seems to get a lot more hate than it deserves.
College-movie clichés aside, the lessons in this movie are SO important!
1. Disability cannot just be overcome by hard work and positive thoughts. But you have potential for so many other things in this world, and your worth is not diminished!
2. You don't have to start at the top to get to the top!
Akmpymouno
Nkunonpynp🎉😅
I wonder how shocked Worthington would be knowing the same monster he believe would never be a scarer become more successful and change everything.
I love this movie's delving into the science of scaring and it's message of finding an alternative purpose in your desired field.
I can't get enough of this movie. Went to watch it so many times when it came out. It's so good. Definitely underrated. The part where Mike and Sulley scare the adults was so AWESOME on the big screen.
I don't think Mike's really giving up, but figured out other work for himself that's still related to his interests (he became a trainer and an assistant of Scarers instead of a Scarer.) And at the end of the first movie, they find a new way and he finds he's really good at making kids laugh.
I think it's about how certain circumstances of birth affect the ability to find work and the ability to work and that it's not the end of the world even if you don't get a certain school or job.
To make a comparison, sometimes a certain disabled person may simply be unable to do certain kind of work, but it doesn't mean they're a failure. They just have limitations in some areas. "You can do anything if you work hard enough" is a nice lesson, but sometimes you just can't and trying to force yourself will just be harmful to you.
I have ADHD and I'm personally just never going to drive a car for everyone's safety lol.
I’m glad that even though I have adhd, I am able to drive myself. I think I have too much paranoia and anxiety to not focus on where I’m going lol it would drive me NUTS to rely on others for transportation and I’d go broke using Uber. Plus I’m scared of getting into a car with strangers.
I don’t have ADHD, but I do have ADD, and it’s always been horrible for me to study in schools. I’m way better at self teaching. Collage has been a nightmare because of that. I don’t have problems when it comes to driving, but I do get anxious. The problem starts when I throw away money or a glass full of milk instead of the empty box though…
@@CervusLavandula Same, I have ADD, and I remember that when I watched this movie for the firsts time I cried when Mike said he tried harder than the rest to prove he was something and still failed, because I felt the same. I loved the end, and the message that you still can do great things in areas that are your strengths. Currently I’m finishing university, and even though it took me more years, I have found my strengths
@@CervusLavandula ADD is ADHD. ADHD is just a spectrum, so u just only have the symptoms formerly known as ADD
@@ma.2089 I said ADD because I’m not hyperactive
I think infact, Randall wasn't actually mad at mike but towards Sully like
Even if they are working in business, The only reason why Randall was hired at this case, Its also because he's still trying to take Sully's place which explains why he's so obsessed taking away Boo from him
14:27 "But I'm a Sullivan!"
Well, I'm sure you'll make a fine composer, then. The conservatorium is right next door!
31:44 Squishy didn't need to roar to scare the doll, all he probably did was to stare down into it's soul and shown it's worst nightmares.
37:56 one guy mentioned a cool theory of why the cops got scared so much, and it says that because the cops on their childhood were scared by Sullivan's father
This movie is better than the first imo. The themes of coming to terms with things about yourself you can't control, and how even working as hard as you can, sometimes you just aren't cut out for some things is amazing. This movie feels so real and human despite being about colorful monsters
18:45 It sounds like Mike enjoys "The Princess Bride," because that's what his dream sounds like. And apparently he sees himself as Wesley: An underestimated young man who trains his entire life to improve his mental and physical abilities to achieve his dreams. And hopefully fall in love with a beautiful girl in the process. I guess this means Celia is Mike's Buttercup since they end up together when he starts working at Monsters, Inc.!
28:04 I know Pixar is always working on improving their animation software, and the facial animation on Sully during this Scare Study session with Mike really shows the advances they've made since the first Monsters, Inc. movie!
The funniest part of this at the end credits, the slug guy finally made it to class, when school ended
This is why I love about this amazing prequel to one of my favorite PIXAR movie, including I enjoyed seeing Mike and Sully have formed a friendship we all care about them.
40:43
Actually, the yeti discovered the existence of the scream extractor so waternoose banished him so he wouldn't tell anyone
So fun fact if you read this Tim: But in the original Mike says to Sully "You've been jealous of my looks since preschool" or whatever year he said. Well originally they planned for this to be true in this movie. They planned to open this movie off with them as kids with a rivalry and then I believe Sully moves away and don't see each other again until college. But I believe they decided not to have it because it wouldn't fit in the film. You can still find the storyboards of it on Disney+
It’s good that they kept that in mind. I thought they just forgot about that line
37:30 Fun fact: records are designed to spin clockwise, so this record is playing *backwards.*
And that is why Mike and Sully are a great team, they make up for what the other lacks.
I find it a little funny Tim Actually wore a Backpack only for the thunbnail lol
😂
I love Disney & Pixar's Monsters University (2013) a prequel to Pixar's Monsters Inc (2001), and it's one of best animated feature films ever in my opinion!
I've watched this movie more than 15 times. I'm 28. And I love it.
Definitely underrated this movie is hilarious and has so much depth and emotional core. A worthy prequel to Monster Inc if you ask me.
this was such an underrated pixar that barely gets talked about unlike its original, the animation is one of the greatest in my opinion too.
Speaking as someone who is generally super critical of modern Disney movies, I have a couple of thoughts.
I've watched this movie a couple of times now. And I feel like the movie really embraces the reality of how school vs. real life is. You may be studying and getting A's on all the tests, but school can never completely prepare you for real life. And that's okay. We are all here to find our way in life. And eventually, Mike found his way. It wasn't the one he wanted, but life is full of surprises.
This movie confused me because:
In the first one Mike knew Sully since 4th grade but in this one they meet for the first time
Yessss! I was thinking the same thing! Maybe they forgot that line? Lol
30:13 In the Monster World, things that we would normally operate with switches because they use electricity that travels through wires, are instead operated with valves on pipes because screams are gaseous. In this case, Mike turns the knob on the room's lights to shut off the energy valve that powers it.
21:26 She looks like if Ursula ate the Slurm Queen.
Little do people know, there’s more than just John Goodman and Billy Crystal and some other random people in this movie. There are actually some big name celebrities. Helen Mirren, Charlie Day, Nathan Fillion, Aubrey Plaza, John Krasinski from The Office, Beth Behrs from 2 Broke Girls, even the same guy who played Joe in Blue’s Clues played one of the Monsters Inc. cops. Don’t believe me? Check the IMDb page. The same guy who played Joe in Blue’s Clues played one of the cops! It’s insane!
Alfred Molina(Doc Ock) as Professor Knight
@@rebajoe Anytime I hear Alfred Molina in anything all I can hear is Viggo Grimborn. (Dragons: Race To The Edge)
On the criticism that in Monsters Inc, Mike said they knew each other since kindergarten, I would like one or two scenes of them meeting in kindergarten and being best friends and them going down different paths in high school before reuniting in college.
But other than that, this was perfect characterization of the characters. Randall’s was my favorite because you could see how he always wanted to be top dog and this is where his competitive streak started. Even with his talent, he is under appreciated so it is interesting to see where he was coming from.
I liked how he and Mike were friends at first until Randall wanted popularity more. Mike was really helpful to Randall so it was kind of sad to see Randall stopping the friendship.
It was interesting seeing the new dynamics come into play and each person learning something from each other.
This movie is second place for me to No Way Home when it comes to great fan service done right.
Now do I love this because it gives us the origin of Mike and Sully‘s relationship, but teaches a great lesson about finding your place. I am a theatre major, and I actually study most of the different jobs in theatre. And while I do love acting, I also love the idea of directing and costume designer. I really recommend that you check out the series Monsters At Work! It’s that hilarious and I love how it continues the stories from new and old characters’ point of view.
💙💜💛💚👁👹🚪
Well Tim at 3:40 you were half-right. Karen’s voice actor, Bonnie Hunt, was in the original, but she’s not the same character you’re thinking of. You probably know anyways, but I thought I’d tell you regardless.
We watched it in cinema and didn't know how it fit to the time line but man this a great introduction to how we see Monsters inc.
I was apprehensive when I heard there was a sequel to Monsters, Inc. I didn't see the point. But I saw it and while I was watching it, I thought 'This isn't bad, this is a good, average, classic underdog story'. But then the last 25-30 (when Mike realizes his part was rigged), that changed everything and I thought 'You did it again Pixar!'
To me, the lesson was you could want something so badly, work so hard for it and be so passionate about reaching a dream, that sometimes it doesn't work out, even if you make it. Its a message that next to no kids movies ever put out and it should. But on the positive side, at the very end, the other message, to me, was there is always a work around to get where you want to be.
32:31
The birth of a glorious rivalry
Dean Hardscrabble is legit my Monster because I was scared of Stern Staff as a kid & sort of still am, cant handle Human Centipede and scared of female dragons especially if it's like a situation with Dragon and Donkey at first or kept in anyway and dominated by one.
I really don’t get how people say Mike isn’t scary he has straight gremlin energy while Sully is blue with purple spots
Had such a great time watching this movie with you, Timothee! After rewatching the movie years later I actually love this movie more now! Can't wait to do more awesome contente with you in the futur!✨ Thank you every one for watching!!!
Thank you for joining me in this journey back to school!
I enjoyed this movie reaction with you two, it was awesome.👍💯 But I’m little disappointed that the post-credit scene at the end was skipped
Definitely one of My most memorable Pixar movies as a kid🥰. Glad to see others like it too
Art is my favorite character in this movie.
8:16 that’s how you make an entrance
The thing that has bugged me about monsters inc/university is which of the power sources is more powerful, the adult scream of a child’s laugh. Because in the first movie Boo’s laugh was so powerful it turned on every door in the factory, while here the adult scream was so strong it destroyed a door entirely even when it was turned off. So that is still bugging me to this day
I mean, I agree with you, but in this case, all the buildup led this scare to be one of the greatest of all time. And also, it was tons of adults vs one child in the scare company if you know what I mean
@@CervusLavandula there was like 6. but the child laugh is 10 times stronger than its scream
If it helps, I think it's way less realistic to freak an adult out than a child. While scaring an adult may be more powerful per scream, the likelihood of a scream for the average monster may not be as efficient as scaring many kids.
The danger in trying to create an atmosphere to get the adults to scream is dramatically more dangerous as well.
It does seem weird at first, but in practicality kids are much easier and safer to work with.
4:58 That would me too if I went in there. Scaring for a living. Sounds like a good occupation.
The reason Squishy looks like Russel from 'Up' is because both characters are based on Pixar artist/director Peter Sohn! (He also voiced Squishy!)
Fun Fact: This Was The 1st Pixar Movie I Saw In Theaters I Also Saw Other Pixar Movies In Theaters As Well Such As Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur (Although I Didn’t Liked It), Finding Dory, Cars 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Toy Story 4 And Onward However The New Pixar Movie That Just Came Out Of Course Is None Other Than Lightyear!
I dont know why in the subtitles, the lines with Go is spelled as 90
Actually, Mike and Sulley DID suprise Hardscrabble as they managed to exceed her expectations (after all, they managed to power up the door from the other side by scaring adult humans who are generally harder to scare than kids and tend to be more "aggressive" toward monsters, whie technically being rookies at being scarers as they are collage students).
I have a thing for react channels and you two reacting is a perfect balance of cuteness and rational thoughts! Subscribes ;3
Welcome aboard!
I didn’t liked this movie the first time I watched it but it’s starting to grow in me the more I rewatch it. I do like it’s messages and themes behind it.
Omg in love with her hair
I really do recommend "Monsters at Work"!!!! Hopefully I didn't give away to much in the comment bellow because I tend to ramble on anything especially messages.
Oh not sure if you plan to watch "Monsters at Work" but you should. It focuses on new characters as they fix stuff at Monsters Inc but also has Mike & Sully as main side characters in the show. And has a pretty good new cast of characters while exploring the changes from screams to laughter. The show takes place right between Waternoose's arrest and the epilogue of Monsters Inc(Which is Sully with tie and Mike opening Boo's door). I think the show is really good and once again really expands on the changes from screams to laughter. Mike & Sully aren't full main characters but are still in the show with plotlines, Sully pretty much takes the sidelines but has a great scene in the finale and Mike has a end show scene at the end of each episode.
04:26 The rumour is that one time a monster tries to scare a child
That child was Jack Jack from the Incredibles and thats why said that children are toxic
For those of us who are Toy Story fans, we all know that the voice actor for Squishy is also Sox, the adorable robot cat in Lightyear. Those of you who haven’t seen Lightyear yet, do not read this comment. Timothee, don’t read this.
Well, that’s not really a spoiler lol
@@CervusLavandula Hmmmm?
@Azumi Midoriya Oh yeah
Funny that she said Squishy looked like Russel, cuz his voice actor, animator Pete Sohn, animated and was the scratch voice for him in Up (plus his design was based on him).
13:46 reference to Dorothy of the wizard of Oz
Apparently this whole movie is a giant plot hole. In Monsters Inc, Mike said at the beginning, “You’ve been jealous of my good looks since the *4th Grade* pal.” Whoops forgot that tiny detail..

Lots of people tend to be very confused as to why Mike "isn't scary," because if he was real then he obviously would be, despite the kids in the third act of the film not being scared of him. But, while there are a lot of different kinds of analysis on this movie, one that I particularly like related to Mike is that his story is one about disability. He lacks something (being scary) that all of the monsters in his world notice, but we as a viewer don't get, even when we're told what it is that he lacks. The program, in this type of reading, is quite ableist, but if you don't read Mike as disabled you can still surmise that the program is not flexible at all to every and all kinds of monster. And although Mike in this movie is visibly disabled (again, in a way we may not understand as the viewer) to all of the other characters, we can also apply to him the types of disabilities that are not seen by the eye, or not deemed "serious disabilities" by people that are non-disabled; or we can read him being neurodivergent, since I always kind of got that vibe from him - being neurodivergent myself. What I do love from this movie then, is that it shows Mike failing despite all of his hard work. We see in all kinds of movies or shows or books etc, that try to make disabilities "cool" or that you can "do other things that no one else can~~~" and while I get the message that you deserve your own autonomy and that you deserve to fulfill your dreams, because of course you deserve that, most often than not - because the world isn't built for people like us - we have to constantly take five steps compared to everyone else' one, just to get where we need to be, and even then we may still fail because sometimes the person we picture ourselves becoming was written with non-disabled and non-neurodivergent instructions. I didn't like seeing Mike fail, of course, but the story also shows how College/Universities aren't everything, with him and Sully still making their dream by working their way up in the company, and with Mike entering an adjacent field of being a Scare Coach, since you can still do what you love even if it has to be a bit different.
41:01 If you look to the right of the picture, you can see a note from Celia, Mike’s girlfriend in Monsters Inc.

Yay this vid was uploaded on my birthday. Also very good movie pick
It would be great if Disney could make a movie where Mike and sullivan see Boo again.
It's already rare that Disney Pixar manages to make sequels that equal their classics but with Monsters University it's a real slap in the face that I took because it is technically and morally speaking better than Monsters Inc. And I think Monsters University deserves more recognition because she exploited and destroyed a cliché with a strong message all that in a university campus in a rather warm but competitive atmosphere at the same time. Bob is confronted with the real reality and everyone does not see in him something monstrous in the terror and Bob does everything that he is perceived and recognized as real terror in the eyes of all but the reality that we fixed is sometimes not the one that is made for us and the case of Bob is even more striking because the whole story that unfolds Monsters University is a truth that ends up hurting but which makes stronger where gives awareness for then open and develop our minds and qualities on other things that will allow us to excel and suit us better.
Dean Hardscrabble was right. Boo was scared of snakes(or rather, the snakelike Randall)and Sully roaring made her cry.
I remember watching this prequel the week it opened, I remember everything and how excited I was to watch it. And almost 10 years later, here we are and I'm amazed how original he managed to be in several concepts, plot and characters in general! Very creative in many ways; I didn't have the feeling of watching something 100% similar to Monsters Inc, for example. Too bad most people consider him bad.
Basically this movie taught us that college is pointless
