I just landed here and you put so many thoughts together for me - I love wire, make wire faces, was thinking about what else. Minutes after seeing thisI grabbed a pen pad and ruler (to measure my ears), sketched, cut, grabbed my 16 ga gold colored copper, shaped, cut, twisted & love the the frame! Wow! THANK You for your clear and insightful instructions. I can't wait to finish these!
have you ever considered doing liquid latex over the lace to make them more flesh like? other then that awesome tutorial thank you so much might use this for my wedding.
this is gorgeous! I hope it's not tacky to offer an option. I wanted wire butterflies, so I did the same with the wire, but used clear blue which I layered with glitter etc. Thank you for this!
I have a quilting hoop, I think putting the fabric in that and then stitching around it would work well and hot glue when it is still in the hoop, glitter hot glue would look cool too.
Awesome - thank you for sharing - These would also be great for mermaid or fairy dolls. I wonder if you could lightly use a flame or heat gun for the fuzzy edges after cutting off the fabric - it would seal to the wire.
+Dehstayne H How did you get the pattern to copy? I'm new to this so i have no idea :/ Really would appreciate some help with getting the pattern to make my wire stencil. Thank you
+Amy Blundell I free handed a shape on cardstock and molded the wires around that shape. I do wire work often so I didnt need much to get going. If I were you I wouldn't cut out the pattern after sketching it out. That way you have the whole sheet of paper to work with. Tap the paper down to a solid flat surface and mold the wires flat down like she does so you don't have to manage doing it in the air. You'll have more control on the shape. But you will have to sketch out a pattern you like.
Great tutorial! Your explanations were precise and clear. I would love to see some more of your prop work in video form because you have quite the talent there too!
The only thing I’d add is to slightly hammer the finished piece after shaping to add strength. Test fit some wire around just your ear to get a feel for how it feels, or as a base to attach to the winged part, even making a smaller winged set to place over or wear instead of the larger set. Sheer interfacing would also work as a cheaper sub for lace with no fray. Black would be pretty too, with silver & glitter. Tea or coffee dye the interfacing for a flesh color. Glitter hairspray would add some sparkle and stiffness.
Thank you sooo much for this! ^_^♡ I love it. Amazing work and beautiful makeup/pix as well. My friend and I have plans, to have a mermaid photoshoot in the summer. I was curious how to go about making ears and I am so glad your vid popped up 1st. Looking forward to trying your super great method!
Really cool. Thanks for the clear & encouraging instructions. I like the technique & since I just bought my first glue gun, it's nice to see some ways to use it:)
You are fantastic! I loved this! Well, I'll be honest, I love all of your videos. You are amazingly creative, and this video inspired me to get more fantasy-DIY creative. 👍👏
I got into this tutorial pretty randomly but I'm thankful I did! This is awesome! I somehow want to attend a costume party or event so I could do this DIY!
just a thought, had you considered using high test spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the wire rather an sewing it on? I wonder how well it would have worked. Nice tutorial either way and has inspired me onto other designs.
NsomniaksDream I have used the adhesive for headdresses and it seems to work just fine ... you may baste a little for added security but it should be sufficient as well as time efficient. Lovely ears btw. 😊
oh, i already made them! Sorry if that was confusing XD They turned out really pretty. They arent exactly identical but you'll only see one at a time anyways since they'll be on the opposite side of your head.. they're red with black and gold n.n
Honestly I just took a rough measurement of my ear length and width, so when I drew it on paper I knew it'd be "around" that size The wire is so malleable that even if you're off by quite a bit you can just pinch and bend the wire around your ear to help it stay on ^.^
I am totally doing this for my March Eridan and Undyne cosplay. They are way cheaper then those latex ones you can buy, and prettier too.
The lone undetale cosplayer in a stampede of homestuck cosplayers... coming this october, 2017.

That's such a beautiful idea! you could even modify it and apply some latex to cover up the net structure :)
this is such an amazing, thoroughly detailed diy! phenomenal, seriously.
I used this for my halloween costume at work! So many people stopped me to look at them thank you so much!!! :D
+Dehstayne H You're very welcome!! I'm so happy it was useful for you! :D

That is definately a method worth trying out :) I hadn't considered that
NsomniaksDream I have used the adhesive for headdresses and it seems to work just fine ... you may baste a little for added security but it should be sufficient as well as time efficient. Lovely ears btw. 😊

Stunning luv 🧜♀️
I'll confess, I'm a Homestuck tHat came Here for Feferi cosplay XD
How did you make the first one fit? And how did you get the shape of your ear so perfect?
Honestly I just took a rough measurement of my ear length and width, so when I drew it on paper I knew it'd be "around" that size
The wire is so malleable that even if you're off by quite a bit you can just pinch and bend the wire around your ear to help it stay on ^.^
You already made one and traced around it for a template. What are we supposed to use? Overall I think it is a great idea.
you draw the shape you want and use that
Think you can make a practice template for people to practice on?
this looks so awesome, congratz on your work!! :3
This is amazing! I think I will try a version of this out cuz I used to work with wires before! It's somuch fun :D Thank you for this!
