Auction them off and MAKE the buyer register them.
What a waste. They could have sold them to buyers outside the state and ensure they were registered. It's not the bikes, it's the former operators.

Mayor is trying to be proactive and reduce the crimes involving scooters. Prosecuting criminals is reactive. Not that it isn't necessary, but proactive plans are needed.

I didn't vote for the guy, I voted Sliwa. But to be completely fair. Adams did try to pass a crime bill a few months ago. City council rejected it. He also criticized DA Alvin Bragg, and tried to get rid of him for being soft. But he can't do anything about it. It's up to Gov. Hochul, and she refused. He's still a terrible mayor. But give some credit where it's due.

Wow.. Way too much blame on the scooters.. The real problem is the people who are criminals . I have a scooter and ride it all over and to work.. It saves me $$, it uses way less gasoline and pollutes way less than a car/suv/truck, and it good for the environment. BTW I don't do any crime just use it for transportation.. and it is registered.. A Scooter can be a good thing..

The crime numbers come from the NYPD itself, not the DA office, for God's sake. This has nothing to do if they get prosecuted or not. That's a separate issue.

I don't understand the Seize & Crush solution. The City's broke. Auction them off. There are still law abiding citizens with legitimate uses or even needs for these bikes. I understand crushing dirt bikes, quads, trikes and hot rods. They aren't street legal and are problematic. But these bikes are needed. And if registered and driven responsibly, they're completely safe and legal.

Community Boards in NYC have been sending alarm signals for over two years regarding these scooters and what problems they have brought to our City and the Citizens. The politicians have been put on notice without any action. The police has been told to stand down and let the youth have fun!! Well how is that working for us??!!

I can buy a 50cc street legal bike from amazon for $1000 bucks. but if I wanted to buy a 1987 Honda civic for that same price I'd have to get it registered most likely get liability insurance etc. NYC made all of this madness happen

All three classes of gas powered moped/scooter require registration, plate, insurance and driver's license. No different than a car. It's the electric scooters that are the free-for-all, with no requirements.
