  • Welcome back to sketchup 101. Today is a great beginner/intermediate build. If you've never used sketchup before..here's a good place to start.
If you have any questions, leave a comment and I'll do my best to keep up with them, and don't forget to check out the actual build video for the workbench: ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&vide...

This is a great tutorial! I decided to try modeling a dining table on SketchUp this week after listening to your podcast, and now I'm in love with the idea of tweaking designs virtually before ever starting the build. Awesome tool.

Thanks for this Mike! Planning a garage workshop and this really helped me with designing the workbench and rolling tables I want in there. Can't want for more!

Wow, this was a fantastic tutorial Mike - quite entertaining as well! I had absolutely had no experience with Sketchup, but after watching this and fumbling around for a few hours I was able to sketch up the design for my 13yr old son's desk we're gonna build together. Thank you so much for helping me learn a new skill!

This was a great video Mike. I’ve been doing all my plans on paper, drafting style, for years. Thanks to you I’m going to transition to Sketchup. Thanks a bunch

Great vid. I'm getting back into SketchUp after tooooo many years away from it. You are helping me join the dots on so many mental planning and thinking processes. One of these with an occasional project would be fabulous. Thanks heaps.

Thanks for posting. This was a great video for me as starting point to decide if I want to use a application like this for creating new projects.

Thank you so much for doing this video!!! I didn't know where to start with Sketchup, and was just kind of winging it when it came to projects. This is awesome and I love you for taking the time to do this!!!

Thank you. I watched a slower tutorial first and then I watched yours and it just clicked. I appreciate your tutorial style.

Looks great, Mike! You're going to love how much larger it is than your other one.

Really great job. you go fast, but are so clear that it is easy to pause and unpause to complete this even with no experience. Also you are the only one doing this on a Mac that I have seen and it is a big deal in terms of compatibility.

When you're making the table top, instead of continually copy and pasting the 2x4s you could have used the Move tool, hold Option when you move it to make a copy, after you start moving type "1.5 10x " this will move it over 1.5" (so it lines up directly beside the original one) and then 10x will make 10 copies each 1.5" further along the same axis.

Well I've tried sketch up a few times and gave up every single time. But after this video I was almost able to complete this build. I made a few mistakes along the way but now have a better understanding of it so thank you. For sharing.

Brilliant. You can own this. Been looking for digestible tutorials forever.

I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great

Love the video and actually made the sketch up right along with you. For the most part I followed your directions. Now I need to learn how to do a parts list.

Nice tutorial! I didn't know about the selection, so thanks for that tip! Another quick tip is that you can use the move tool to copy an object, that way you can copy and position it correctly at the same time, saving a step. You do it by tapping the option key on the mac (or control on win/linux pc) while moving the piece.
