suggestion to add a tool-assisted option for the leaderboard. and maybe once the game is done, have a builtin TAS tool (change game speed, manual frame advance, savestates, and editing the input list.) though that might need some structural changes so maybe doing it in a way you can implement that later whether or not you decide to do it might save trouble. also, that would allow you to have the list of inputs and check if the run is valid for the leaderboard to avoid people sending 0:00 times.(that's what trackmania does)
ive been trying to figure this out as an external modded tool, main issue is there seem to be aspects of non determinism which makes it really tough to tas and also record inputs (im not the dev obviously, just thinking about it as someone who enjoys the game)
Ha yea, way back in the day I initially had it like that but unfortunately it felt more difficult to boost in a consistent direction and felt terrible on controller using right stick to aim the gun :(
@@BatteredLuteStudios You could hypothetically make it optional between using keyboard or mouse (just an idea), or have each direction bindable to a different key individually so it isn't the movement keys, but compared to most indie projects, this game is amazing!!

An honest peace of feedback: in my opinion (not that my opinion matters), the boost gun's direction should be mouse controlled, not controlled by WSAD
