Funny because we men believe the same thing about women. "All girls are the same." The only difference is, that one's actually true. Hercules was a simp lol.
Hades is my FAVORITE Disney Villain, because is just so unique from the others. He doesn't have that whole dramatic Shakespearean thing going. He's more of a laid back, realist sort of villain.
It's weird how media usually paints Hades as the villain, perks of being the Lord of the underworld I guess. According to source material, he's probably the least problematic of the "gods".
The singer for young Hercules is actually Roger Bart. Just so you know. He is an actor/singer. He was Goerge in Desperate Housewives and Carmen Ghia in the 2005 Producers
I do love Meg’s whole storyline. It’s so interesting and complex especially for a Disney movie. The mythology aspect might’ve helped with that being complex but idk for sure if that portion was accurate to the mythology or not
It's not accurate, but it's a Disney animated film for children, so it doesn't matter. The ACTUAL tales in Greek Mythology are not something for 5 years old to be learning yet. They're fucking cool, but not things 5 year olds need to know at their age.
I agree with how much you liked Meg and Herc together and fun fact, this is one of the few disney canon ships where the woman is older. It's also one of the larger age gaps in Disney. Hercules was supposed to be about 16/17 at the start of the film and 18 at the end after the training. Meg is in her 20s
Considering she talks down to him a little it does at least sound like she’s older, but the question is by how much. Since she appears in the episode of the show “The Anatolian Amphora” and appears to be a high school contemporary of Herc’s, the “age gap” may be more of an experience gap.
The first thing she says to him is move on junior 😂 now I don’t know whether she’s stuck in her 20s and is probably a century older than Herc or she’s actually just few years older than him. Given her story of selling her soul, her aging makes it hard to guess how long had she been working for Hades.
@@Tooba-K123 Yeah, you’re right she does call him junior. She should be in her 20’s. Fun fact: The name Cerberus comes from the ancient Greek word "kerberos," which means "spotted." That pretty much means that Hades named his three-headed guard dog "Spot."
“Zeus is kinda lame so far, haven’t seen him do much except sit around on his little throne” and that right there just summed up most of Zeus’ mythology in a nutshell.
Hercules was the Disney movie that came out after The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Hercules was made light hearted due to Hunchback of Notre Dame being so dark
I’m sorry for the “well, ayachtuallyyy” but Hercules’ singing voice was done by Roger Bart. Michael Bolton did the pop version of I Can Go the Distance. This was so fun! I love seeing a first time reaction.
The hilarious thing is that in actual mythology, Hades was the nicest of the gods. Also, the original story of Heracles(Hercules) is VERY tragic and I can see why Disney took the route that they did and changed so much to make it happy. Remember, Zazu once said "He'd make a very handsome throw-rug." about Scar. XD
The Scar skin is a reference to what Zazu said in the lion king, he'd make a very handsome throw rug and when he gets dirty you can take him out and beat him
The first creature that started off Herc's hero career was a hydra. Basically what they showed us. Cut off one head, 3 grow back. Sometimes it's only 2, depending on the story.
Aw man, this movie has always been one of my favorites. The art style and the shapes, the settings, the songs, the drama, and of course pegasus! I LOVED seeing your reaction to all of it!
The best part of the movie was Meg, but the way they made Hades a bad guy in this was so infuriating because he's basically the least problematic god out of all of them, and one of the only gods that *didn't* participate in a takeover of Olympus against Zeus in Greek Mythology. That's not even the least of how inaccurate it is when looking at Greek mythology, but if I talked about everything I'd get into ranting and I don't really feel like typing out a rant rn
I think it was just disneys strategy yknow they gotta make someone bad and given the fact that it's mainly a child audience picking the guy associated with death and the underworld was the first choice.
@@JuanitoEsBonito I think that was partly the choice. I always think Hades already had a bad representation b4 this bc some ppl were like he’s the God of the underworld and works with dead souls he must kill ppl which isn’t true. Hades is a man of his word in this movie, too. Both deals he makes with Hercules, he holds up his end of the bargain. Hercules, on the other hand, doesn’t keep up his end of the bargain he makes about saving Meg.
Funnily that’s the worst thing he’s done. He’s one of the chillest gods there is. I won’t say the most chill because Dionysus is literally the god of wine and pleasure.
After reading mythology for a summer and watching The Mythology Guy's review of this movie, it's now hard to watch this movie without constantly correcting it.
20:49 Phil was unconscious! O.O He was knocked off a horse with a branch going way too fast for that not to have knocked him out. They show him waking up just as Meg and Hades are getting into it with their conversation. Then he left just before he could see Meg stand up to Hades. Bad timing.
One thing to know about this movie is that is basically has no consistency with the original Greek myth. As a major fan of Classical Mythology, this film and I have such a love-hate relationship. They have enough obscure references that it is obvious they did the research, but so many glaring flaws that it is also clear they didn't care to be accurate. For the best, I suppose, the actual myth of Hercules is FAR from family oriented (he got his first murder in as a kid when he smashed his lute over his music teacher's head, for starters... not counting the multiple rapes, pillages, beating his own wife and kids to death, multiple sex partners of both main genders that they were *not* putting in a 90s film, etc)

So I know the Scar pelt was traumatizing, but it's accurate to the myth in a sense. Hercules defeated a lion and did wear it's pelt, they just threw Scar in as a reference to their other movie. Disney did that even back then lol
18:35 Just like you, I found Meg very strange with her feet when I watched it as a kid. But this scene with Meg's foot has a reason: ACHILLES' HEEL!!! Yes! Meg probably knows the story of Achilles, who was defeated by being hit in the heel. And she was looking for a weakness in Hercules and thought that he might also have a weakness similar to Achilles. Today I understand this, now as an adult.
Hades and Meg were hands down the best part of this movie, and the fact they shared most of their scenes together made it even better!

"Only gods can live on mount Olympus." Incorrect in both real mythology and within the canon of disney's version.
i love that you’re friends with Rival, it’s so fun
Scar represents the Nemean Lion which was one of Hercules' labours
The "Jason" thing is a joke about the story of the Argonautai haha, I haven't watched this movies in years and only just caught that now
"Not because of my brain cell because of Descendants" 😂
“Older Hercules” is still only 15-18 at the most. Likely more around 14 at first when he’s skinny, and 16 after training.
pleasee meg was one of my gay awakenings
We're all simps for Meg
Yes I'm a simp for meg
18:35 Just like you, I found Meg very strange with her feet when I watched it as a kid. But this scene with Meg's foot has a reason: ACHILLES' HEEL!!! Yes! Meg probably knows the story of Achilles, who was defeated by being hit in the heel. And she was looking for a weakness in Hercules and thought that he might also have a weakness similar to Achilles. Today I understand this, now as an adult.
1:50 Hades
You remember Hades from Descendants.
this is one of my favorite disney movies of all time!! yassss
I’m so happy you reacted to this movie. It’s definitely one of my fave Disney movies ever!! 🥺🥰🥰
