- In part four of Beautiful Zimbabwe, Ryan from @4x4ventures_southafrica and I meet up in Motobo National Park. The name Motobo translated from Ndebele into English, means Bald Heads. With all the granite outcrops we can see why the name was given.
We do some exploring and in true fashion, we also decide on an adventure route to Gonarezhou.

Great video Bruce. I love this series. It’s a million miles from suburban England but it’s a great escape watching them. You’re the best advert for Zimbabwe and Land Rover. Hope they recognise that.

That's awesome. I was also first there at about that time and battled to recognise the place. I think it was a lot more wild then and I remember crocodiles "jumping", trying to catch the tick birds in the trees above the water.

We just love your videos. So glad you decided to be a you tuber. Did notice that there is hardly any game in Zim. Has the game been eaten or was it just the time of year you went lots of water all over the bush. We would like to go to Zim but also want to see game.

Matopos Hills, my favourite place in the whole damn world, right there. Eish, gets me every time.
It’s a magical place and the only thing I regret is I didn’t spend enough time there. But that’s a good thing as it’s an excuse to go back. 😂

I grew up in Zim and been working overseas, my most recent place I called home for some time was Hong Kong. But recently I’ve moved back to Zimbabwe to live life and enjoy what she has to offer.

Some observations Bruce:
I really like that your Defender is the means and not the end....it's how we get there to see the wonderful country which otherwise not be seen...the means is great but the experience is what it is about.

Nostalgia- I remember real Fanta and real Coke too- it’s all been packed up and shipped off to kiosks in the middle of nowhere- so they can get addicted to it like us, and then get saddled with ChemCocktail cans of soft drink like us 😂

You should get a sponsor, perhaps a travle agency that do 4x4 in southern africa.
I would love if you made a video or podcast about: How to plan your own uniqe 4x4 in southern part of Africa. with subjects of buying car/bike or renting, dangers and safty, roads and daily travel distances, fuel, water, equipment. places to stay, needs for prebooking. Camping scares a lot of people that dont know, and even roof tent camping.
I plan on a month long biketrip, but many dont understand that ex Zim is one of the safest places to travle, people are so nice!
People often go on road trips to the US, and then dumb expensive safries packed with tourist. Go in 4x4 to Zim, Bot, Nam, Malawi etc.!
you know the youtuber "itchy boots" she motorbiked the area, and have a hugely popular youtube channel!
@@mnp3713 I am not going to deceive people or be dishonest by hiring students and paying for likes, subscribers and comments. I am aware some do this and if you look at their channels it's blatantly obvious.
I am doing this for fun and hopefully I will inspire others to do similar things. I have already made many good friends through UA-cam and hopefully made a difference to a lot of people, so I am already very happy with the results.
Sponsors are always welcome but that is not my aim and if I do get sponsors usually 100% goes to chasing smiles or given away in lucky draws like what we did in Harare in October last year.
So I guess I could say that the aim of my channel is to inspire and make a difference and hopefully teach others that it is possibly no matter what the budget is.

Matobo is home. My dad grew up on the outskirts of the park and we still take long quiet walks whenever we're there. Beyond the beauty, there are so many deeply spiritual aspects that are very special about this area. It's no wonder the hills were added to the World Heritage list. Thanks for another awesome video.

Good question. The respect accorded to the Matobo Hills lies in the fact that local Kalanga people believe that spirits reside in caves, hills, woodlands, hollow trees, and many secluded environments. Cecil Rhodes is buried on the summit of Malindidzimu which loosely translates to "hill of the spirits." My family's homestead is in the shadow of Njelele Shrine, where pilgrims still visit every year to ask for the rains. They are accompanied by the shrine's custodian who has the power and purity to speak to uMlimu (God) through our ancestors and there's plenty of traditional beer to go around. This hill is so sacred that it is taboo to point your fingers at it.
Spiritual practice here has gone on for millennia and this interaction between the religion, the people and the landscape manifested in the rock art which is everywhere here. There are over 3,000 documented caves of historical significance in these hills. In fact, a 40,000 year old skeleton was found in the cave Bruce visited. Also, some impressive archaeological finds from the area are on display at the Natural History Museum in Bulawayo. It's hard to put it all in words. There's so much history and an air of grandeur in the hills which has to be felt rather than described.

I agree and it deserves another visit. There was also not enough of Motopos either. I was only there for two nights and one day unfortunately so definitely will be going back as there is so much more I want to explore.

The country is beautiful but the citizens do not enjoy its beauty because of poverty brought by zanu. Scenery can be beautiful but its people can also be oppressed. In Russia and Cuba there are beautiful places where only the rich are allowed. Talk of the beauty of the heart
Its the same in every country. There are those than can and those that can't. Unfortunately the ratio between the two is the problem in Zimbabwe, so how do we help to fix that? Im doing my small part to encourage people like me to visit Zim by showing what it is really like.
What are you doing?
If we all make a small positive impact it will make a difference.
So lets try keep this positive and try make a positive impact no matter how small it is.

Matopos doesn't seem to have any wildlife?
I did not see much wildlife at all. Maybe I was just unlucky, Im not sure.
Is this a mimic of Great Zimbabwe 🇿🇼, so who truly built the Great Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 ruins, who were these people!!!!
There is much debate about those topics and I am not expert so I wouldn’t like to make any assumptions and possibly insult anyone.
There is a ton of information on Google.
