Makokoba (pronounced as Ma-Kho-Kho-Ba) was established as Bulawayo’s first black township and places itself on the strides of urban area development in Zimbabwe. Makokoba is a place where history and culture are melded together. Staying on the street in which the first houses where built, we got some time to explore and learn about development and fascinating stories surrounding this township.

~ About Magriza Made Me Cook:
» Magriza is slang for uGogo (Grandmother in isiNdebele) and the name of the show is derived from Prince's inspiration for falling in love with cooking; his grandmother. The goal of MMMC is to document and serve Africa's diverse food culture, one dish at a time. We believe that Africa has got unique meals that ought to be talked about, and most importantly, cooked consistently. We believe in the values of Ubuntu, Respect, Creativity and Minimalism.

As a isiZulu speaker from Durban visiting Makhokhoba I wont have a problem communicating with the people there. Makhokhoba even though is on a flat landscape has a similar set up with the township of Lamontville in Durban although Lamontville is on a hilly landscape. Public drinking places (amabhawa), public markets, swiming pools, man's hostels (abo fourboy), etc. This is all reminiscent of the township of Lamontville and in fact this could be found in many townships in SA. Beautiful Zimbabwe keep it up!
Thank you Thami.
phatisa nyathi
Zimbabwe is South Africa bafwethu kanti vele why we were devided there is Ndebele (Zulu in SA) Xhosas, Vendas

Enkosi for watching ZUsiphe Sikayi.
Yhoo ndibukele kakuhle mna ndilapha e Mossel Bay, Western Cape province, South Africa.
Enkosi kakhulu maan mhlekazi u Sivalo ngale content, iyasifundisa kakhulu kwaye isivula amehlo thina bantu abangazange balifumana ixesha lofukunda nge culture yelizwe elihle i Zimbabwe, ndiyafuna ukukhe ndikhuphe yonke i family yam siyijikeleze yonke i Zimbabwe, how I honestly long for a time where all these nonsensical borders/ xhenophobic tendencies will be a thing of the past.
I'm not trying to funny when I say : why can't we all as AFRICANS live in peace here in South Africa just as we do with Chinese & the others? So I personally believe in my heart that it's the content like this which will assist our current generation in making sure that we refuse to be dividend by these vultures & hyenas who's very mission is to simply extirpate & crush us to the ground as a family, ndiyavuya ke ngoba yonke lento endiyithethayo ndiyithetha as a proud South African who's not affiliated to any political party whatsoever.
Well said bafo, Africa should be united so that we easily accept one another and so that you can easily travel with your family and explore this beautiful continent
Enkosi Togu Madikane

I wish l could be there to share my bit. Keep the good job promote Bulawayo. Ngizalwa yi ntombi yako Mahlangu. Thanks Nzuza
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿KaMahlangu brilliant as always...Continue to make history...this seemingly very simple, ordinary documentation about simple ordinary people is a masterpiece mfethu.Youl be amazed how ignorant we are about OUR OWN original ....The history of Makokoba for ANY Bulawayan is so so significant..I personally got massive education from this presentation. This is rich.Hlalunjalo.👏🏿👏🏿💪🏿💪🏿

Kwakugolwa intethe kumfula uMazayi laphana, there is something deep, something special, historical about Makokoba especially if you once lived there. There is that kind of attachment, and that feeling never goes away regardless ukuthi ungabe usuhlala ngaphi.

1992 we used to walk from Regar court to makokoba for that i baiskopo itwas nice when we wre kids
I wish we can promote Umgido le ngungu. We need to uplift culture. Makhokhoba was built for migrant bachelor's in particular men. Then people started bringing in their families from other parts of the country. It was initially occupied by Malawian men and some local populations with single families and then eventually other people from outside the region. All the old locations Makhokho, Mzilikazi, Mpopoma, Sizinda used to compete through clubs, schools, churches for choir music 🏆, acting, football, netball those were the days.
Beautiful history
