    Wow, I knew people would bring up the whole anti-CGI BS. ENOUGH! I used to feel the same way, but CGI is not "industrial." It just takes more digital and technical work as opposed to traditional and stop-motion. Using computers does not make something "heartless" and "manufactured." Artists use sketches, sculptures, and a lot of planning and heart to make "CGI." Speaking of which, "The Snow Queen" was NOT originally in 2d; that was just a rumor. Production was started on it as a CGI film.

    LOVE the ALGEBRA SHIRT LOL I saw the live action frankenweenie on the nightmare dvd it was pretty good. I know this movie is going to be a 10 so I definately want to see it ..but not sure if i will get time to see it in the theater. And I had the same thoughts of kids evrywhere trying to do this... but hopefully the parents will tell them its just a movie and doesnt work.

    I find that Burton's stop-motion "acting" work is better than Laika's. In burton's movies, even though you know they're little models, they really seem to give off actors' expressions.

    Grace, what is your typical sample size for these ratings? Is it limited to just the people you interview or are there more people off-screen that you ask?

    Disney has always made it's bread and butter showing kids very grim situations. A lot of Disney films have always been dark.

    After Nightmare of Christmas and Corps Bride I'm excited! I didn't like Coraline that much (I know it isn't Tim Burton, but Henry Selick worked on Nightmare as well) I can't wait till it comes out in Norway!! :D Tim has a wonderful mind so I feel like this can't go wrong! :)

    Like I said on the comments for "Hotel Transylvania", I was so underwhelmed by it.
    I was so excited for it but...such huge, huge flaws in my opinion. Especially around the end...if they developed the script better and delayed the film enough so that they could make the movie more complete, they could of rectified these huge flaws... :(
    "ParaNorman" ftw, that film was way, way, WAY better by far.

    Goldfish lol. You never had any furry pets growing up Grace? It is great but it's really sad when they die. When I was born my parents already had 2 Labradors and one died when I was 10 and the other a year later, and it was really sad.

    I own a VHS of "Frankenweenie." I thought it was a great parody, but I never thought the target audience was kids. The humor was too dark and the material that it was parodying I doubt the kids would have known.

  • @MichaelKerr71
    @MichaelKerr71 12 років тому

    I'm glad you brought Pinocchio up. That was a classic dark and grim Disney movie. It dealt with child slavery. Pinocchio himself was a slave of a circus and kept in a cage. The Pleasure Island scene had these young kids smoking, etc. just to be transformed into donkeys and sold off into hard labor slavery. Many many many Disney movies were and are like this. Very grim and dark undertones if not outright murder, etc. Thanks for helping me prove my point about a lot of Disney films!

  • @MrTristy22
    @MrTristy22 12 років тому

    Yeah. I find it kind of ironic that the original Frankenweenie was originally supposed to be shown with a reissue of Pinocchio but Disney pulled it out due to its "disturbing images". Makes just about as much sense as advertising Hannah Montana while renaming one of the great fairy tales "Tangled" to appeal to boys.

    It annoys me they say Tim Burton is the master of stop motion.. He didn't even direct 'Nightmare Before Christmas' which was his most popular... Corpse Bride was not the best film in the world... I really hope Laika carry on with their style and hopefully one day beat Tim Burton's style.. I'm not a fan -.-

  • @DianaGohan

    Hmmm, am I the only one who really dislikes this movie? Cause quite frankly I... kind of hated it. Not full on hate but it's like one of my least favorite movies of the year as it's a lot more atmosphere and not really any good character/comedy or enjoyable bits for my tastes. Then again personal preference I suppose but yeah not really a fan of this one.

    I had to put my weenier dog down recently... I had her for 15 years...one year right before Halloween she had to get surgery so she still had the stiches...We called her Frankenweenie...I cried when I first saw the trailer for this movie...I'm even tearing up right now... I think I'll hold off on watching this movie for a little while...

  • @Keopro
    @Keopro 11 років тому

    No comments on the Japanese character? I am genuinely surprised nobody mentioned him here yet, it border-lined racist. As a whole, I was not a huge fan of the film as I found the ending to be a huge cop-out. It also seemed almost like a parody of a Burton film than his own work.

  • @ammolator
    @ammolator 12 років тому

    Not that Hotel Transylvania is bad but they're hand drawn animation while paranorman was created from real life hand made puppets with endless faces and frames. Eveything was made from real life objects. Even the smokes were creating by using cottons and stuffs. True, there may be a little fx though.

  • @Keopro

    Adult claymation/stop motion has been done before, Live Freaky! Die Freaky! but it is a very acquired taste. Very sick humour but worth a watch with an open mind (note, there is a sex scene).

    Paranorman was great, it should not have been rated PG because of the adult innuendoes, still a good story and a visual masterpiece. I liked Frankenweenie just a tiny bit more because I love all the reference and I felt like it had more emotion and style.

    I found ParaNorman to be excellent in every department... besides character development. It had the same major theme as Frankenweenie, "ignorance is dangerous", and delivered it in a more powerful way. Sadly, in Frankenweenie, the messages are all messed up. Compared to the beginning in the movie, everything in the town has gotten worse. People fired, animals killed, etc. People payed for the doings of the main character. And the idea of "you have to let go" was completely ruined... ugh...

  • @fridolfk
    @fridolfk 11 років тому

    I agree with the unnecessary stereotypes and that it actually didn't completely feel like a Tim Burton movie.. But I still liked the film, because of the story and how it is after all a Tim Burton movie and I like his work. And .. I actually wished that the dog wouldn't live again and that he would instead be okay with not being able to bring him back. It felt very typical disney, that ending.. aaaand I don't like that.
