  • You know when someone tells you NOT to say something. And that's the only thing that you can think of? I misspoke and said S was for standard definition and H was for high definition. That's completely wrong.
    Decimator MD-HX Menu Abbreviations
    S = SDI
    H = HDMI
    D = down/up/cross
    FS = full screen
    LB = letter box
    PB = pillar box
    CC = center crop

    Hi Sandy. Thanks for the very comprehensive review of this product. I've been looking for a device to convert the hdmi from my Panasonic GH4 to SDI to display on a Panasonic BT-LH1700WP monitor. I may also need to send my GH4's signal to a projection system at some point in time. This device seems to offer a lot of features for the money.

    Hi, great review. Does this device de-interlace 1080i to 1080p well? thanks.

      Yes, surprisingly for such an inexpensive unit.

    Sandy the reason I went a head buying the Decimator was due to me using the Black Magic hyper deck studio. I am having the issue of when I record and do the play back I get the video falling behind after 50 seconds. As time goes by it just gets worse. So I was recommended to buy this item. I am hoping this item will fix this issue. I have tried every setting on the hyper deck. I have it at the best setting now. Yet after 50seconds to a 1 minute the video start to fall behind the audio. Thanks

      Interesting. Now that you've had it for a year, what have you found?

      Everything works great. The Decimator has many options to choose from in terms of combinations of HDMI to RCA, BNC to RCA, BNC to HDMI etc etc.....I had a very complex system where I had vaddio PTZ cameras and a digital mixing board going into a matrix with many HDMI out puts. Once I found where the decimator was best placed it worked great fixing the latency so the video and the audio would stay in sink.

    You forgot to explain some important settings, but useful video nonetheless.
    Can you confirm if this model outputs 576i50 SDI with the proper 50 fields of temporal data? I'm having a hard time figuring out why the couple of SDI downconverters I've tried seem to discard half of the fields and when they output 50, in fact it's 25 doubled, which causes stuttering which is very bad for TV broadcasting. But I'm beginning to think it's some kind of undesired deinterlacing performed by my monitor...

      Sergi Medina check your monitor. No converter that throws away half your data is worth using in production.

      That's right. So this converter outputs interlaced correctly then?

      Project Worship3 Winnie Kukiriza check to see if you are getting a signal reading on the main screen when you plug in you SDI cable. FYI are getting nothing you have a malfunctioning device or cable or sending the Decimator a signal it can’t receive.

    Good morning Sandy. Thks for sharing this 411 on this item. I have a Pure Link Matrix and a Black Magic hyper deck studio. I am bringing in audio through the matrix from a mixer and video via HDMI. I am coming out of the matrix HDMI into the decimator via HDMI and out of the decimator into the Black Magic HDMI. In the decimator I am in Control I have it set up as HDMI out TYPE / HDMI RGB 444 2C. On the Scaling I have it set at Output Format / 3G 1080p59.94. Audio is set as HDMI out Pair 2 / Group 2 Pair 2. Would this be the right settings for just using HDMI? Thanks God bless

      Sorry, we sort of gave up on on UA-cam comments until they fixed them. The answer really depended on your source material, but you've probably figured that out by now.

    Hi Sir, first, thanks for this review. Does this device down scale from HDMI input 1080i/60 to out SDI 720p/60? Thanks again.

      +Anil Martyn hope you figured this out. You had to use the down/up converter. It's in the control menu.

    I'm coming out of a roland switcher and sending 1080i 29fps to 2 main places. The first is to an SVHS DVD recorder for onsite dubbing, the second is to an Atomos. If I squeeze the height of of the 1080i down to 80% the DVDs look correct, but on the atomos side everything is stretched horizontaly ("wide body") which I can fix in post by bringing it down to 80%. It would make sense if I showed you.
    I'm wondering if I put this between the roland output and the DVD recorder would I be able to scale it to work with the DVD record looking correct, while leaving it untouched on the Atomos side? Can it scale the XY independently or maybe there is a setting that would take the 1080i to 4x3 (I have a device that will take the HDMI out of the decimaorand send it to the DVD) Great review, thank you.

      Mixing HD and SD is always fun. :-( The Decimator is great at scaling, but I'd use something that had horizontal and vertical scaling controls, preferably knobs - or figure our exactly what your offset is, set it and forget it.

    • @DarkStarAZ
      @DarkStarAZ 7 років тому

      Do any of the decimators offer vertical and horizontal scaling?
      TY

    • @Sandyaudiovisual
      @Sandyaudiovisual  7 років тому

      No unfortunately, not in the way you would need. I imagine you'd want control like the old Sony scalers. Nothing in Decimator's product line currently is quite like that.
