  • This video came about as a result of several posts on social media from 2391 and 18th Edition students.
The difficulty they were having was manipulating or re-arranging electrical formulas.
If they were given a formula to use and the formula was already rearranged for them, then no problem. But when the question demanded a manipulation of what they already had … that’s where it fell to pieces.
A formula is only as good as the person using it … and it will be an even better formula if you can manipulate the numbers to your own advantage.
And that is what this video will show you; just how easy it is to rearrange any formula, especially the ones that you need to use in your exams and assessments.
We begin with some very simple formulas, and show you step by step how to re-arrange the different electrical formulas that you will need to use in exams and assessments - and of course, on-site.
This is video number 207 and to view all our videos type in LearnElectrics all one word into the UA-cam search bar.
A copy of the transpositions table is available as a downloadable and printable PDF
Go to LearnElectrics.com and put P207 into the search bar.
You will find a link to the printable PDF and a link to the accompanying video.

35 is nothing, Michael, some of my best students were mature learners. Many went on to have very profitable careers and are still in touch with me now. Good luck on your journey. Dave.

Transposing formulae so youve got one subject. I remember at college that some couldn't get it and packed it in and never became electricians.

I figured out the Formula For "K" & I"....The "I" was a little trickier as I had to Square root the final Answer

Off topic but i was on a job yesterday and the supply to their garage was a swa cable that consisted of a 6mm brown 6 x1mm blue with 6mm earth. So neutral is connected via 6, 1mm cables. I have never seen this cable before.
Anyone here know if this is safe. The load should be shared but it's bizzare. I don't want to have to change the cable it's it's safe and sits correct with the regs but I can't find where it's stated otherwise.
    Cheers to anyone that replies

The problem with using several undersized cables is ensuring that they all stay connected at both ends. A ring circuit is like this, two undersized cables joined at both ends.

Hi, I love your videos as refreshers and memory joggers! However, I think it’s worth pointing out that you divided both sides by the same thing. You hinted at it in your narrative with the “seesaw and the equals sign being the balance point”, but didn’t show the step where one side cancels out and leaves the other on the bottom. That would show the short cut that most of us take for granted of “top one side to bottom on the other”

Left out deliberately. Many viewers are not too hot on maths and I don't want to give them overload at this stage. I wanted to give enough information to get them started. Thanks for the input, appreciated.

      Hi Dave
I’ve learned a lot from your fantastic videos so Thankyou.
I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions for me.
I am pusuing an apprenticeship as an electrician in a hospital which I currently work at as part of a development strategy. It’s a subject I have always been interested and passionate about but only from a DIY perspective, and I’ve only had experience of domestic electrical work.
      So
What will be the differences between domestic electrical work and electrical work within a hospital?
What would you recommend I familiarise myself with/read up or watch for a possible interview?
Are you ever too old to become an electrician 😁 ?
      Many thanks in advance
      John
