Might be a coincidence, but almost everyone I personally know that’s against Jagex accounts has bought account services at least once.
I haven't used any service ever and the last time I rwt'd was nearly a decade ago, on an account that already got banned long ago. I don't care about that shit at all. I'm also not "against" Jagex accounts, I don't care if you want to do it for yourself, good for you. But excuse me if I don't want to risk multiple accounts with thousands of hours of effort and tons of sentiment attached it by transferring them to a brand new launcher made by a company who quite literally does not do manual customer support for people who aren't content creators or don't get thousands of likes on a social media post. And whose automated customer support is beyond laughably bad btw.
If others feel confident in it, go ahead, I don't care because your account isn't my account. But until I literally cannot play without transferring, I'm not gonna do it. Because when something goes wrong and my account is either inaccessible or gets banned after I attempt to transfer to the launcher, I know 1000% I will NOT get any manual customer support whatsoever because there is literally not a method of contacting a human being at Jagex about such an issue(which is completely inexcusable by the way, pure greed on Jagex's part).

Account sharing is not against the rules unless it's used as a service/to manipulate highscores
Only thing I wish with my Jagex Account/Launcher is that it would work on mobile. Logging in and out every time you want to change characters is actually aids.
For what its worth I had spotty internet yesterday due to having to take the starlink dish off my roof for a few hours. I was getting lag spikes about every 30 mins while playing on 2 windows, 1 thru jagex launcher, 1 thru reg. runelite and every time without fail the jagex launcher window totally booted me out of the game, while the runelite window powered thru with a few seconds of lag then good to go. I understand the reason was the dish but could be an indicator that you could be more likely to get disconnected while doing something important like inferno if you're internet performance dips
I’ve noticed, ever since I started using the Jagex launcher, I will get a lag spike every hour that just boots me off the game immediately. At first I thought it was runelite settings. I turned off every single plugin and it was still doing it. It doesn’t even matter what I’m doing in game. Could be standing in the middle of nowhere and it will still happen. Completely put off doing any high level pvm content now
I use Linux exclusively, arch btw, and i use neovim btw, and i use a tiling window manager btw,
and i don't like that I have to cheese compatibility by jagex's linked methods. It works but it's not ideal. We hit 4% market share, and I'd bet a good chunk of plugin devs main Linux too. I'm hoping for better native support to come to us, especially since the steamdeck made normies accidentally use Linux too.

Rip linux users - mod ash has tweeted they have no plans to support the linux platform. As it stands linux users will have to run this bloat launcher through a compatibility layer like WINE to use the launcher to open runelite... which already runs natively on linux...
It’s not that big a deal, it has become very quickly and easy to set up even though it’s not officially supported.

The jagex launcher in WINE can still pass authorization to and launch native Runelite.
So having to set up the launcher is hardly the worst thing linux gamers have had to put up with...
The only legitimate issue I have heard about Jagex accounts is that the Jagex launcher does not support Linux. Outside of that they're fantastic imo.

The main problem with jagex account is if your email is compromised then you jagex account will be compromised and then you will lose access to account and jagex will NOT recover it for you. They send a message saying your email was most likely compromised and its your fault not ours gg stfd. And that stupid back up code means nothing because hackers change ur acct to diff email request new back up codes rendering your old ones useless

But I will say that we have some stats with bots and data for the current game. We do not have any data from a bot free game. So let's say you are 100% right and there won't be enough people to supply stuff to GE. Ok. Then just roll it back.

People can bot on the jagex launcher and can make accounts easy still no change for botters. maybe if there changing the detection systems
I would say the jagex account system benefited my cousin a lot lol. I told him to never buy accounts and I can help him level up but he went and bought a almost maxed account and created a new email and transfered the account to the new email jagex account and everytime to person who sold him the account tried to recover Jagex just said that the account is not associated with the email anymore. So my cousin still has the account today. Do I still give my cousin the shame look every now and then? Yeah, but its his money and risk so he can do what he wants with it. 😂

You can still use the Jagex Launcher and Jagex accounts in Linux, it’s just not officially supported.
Click jagex launcher, select character, click play, runelite opens. Pretty convenient and I'm not a pleb that buys account services so yeah it's pretty great actually

@YltimateUIM i haven't read the blog post. I assume botters will not be able to use their shady third party clients if forced to use Jagex Launcher but was not aware it was in the post.

I had an old account (my original) that I was skeptical of playing having been hacked over 16 years ago when I was young (signed up for a clan or something). It had a lot of memories attached like playing with my dad, school friends, etc on it. The Jagex account allowed me to link that account and for it to go from a 5 or 6 character password to protected. I'm all for it. Great step toward better account security.
To add it also had some random email made up on it and all of the security questions were just random keyboard smashing. Smart kid, I was.
I switched to jagex launcher and actually like it, plus the extra exp lamp is always nice.

While it wasn't a ban, I caught a "warning" for RWT after splitting to someone's alt account (they were an iron). While they may have gone and sold that gold, why was I the one to catch a warning? What is stopping jagex from actually banning me if I ever decide to do non-ffa raids again (refuse to ever since that) with no appeal?
Edit: I have no clue if this person ever did sell gold or not, I only knew them from them randomly joining my ToA team.
@@Gomkamf that doesn’t stop the problem of a potential ban happening to begin with. A warning is only justifiable if I actually had RWT. Let’s say it’s a 2-step program warning > ban. If I could appeal the warning I don’t have to worry about the ban by resetting it. But the way the message read is if I am “caught again” I’ll just be banned. No room for appealing until after a decision is made. which at that point I might as well of actually RWT’d. Not to mention how many people get banned all the time and get appeals denied. There’s an entire thing going on with some pk streamer atm except his case they claim he botted.
i gave my alt 2 mil to flip cheap runes on the ge and it got banned in like 30 minutes for "macro major". never got it appealed. thanks jagex

Im running runelight on a Chromebook using Linux emulatorn, only able to install the mobile client in Android but runelight works perfekt in linux and the jagex account dont work in linux

When I make a jagex account, can I make a totally new email? One that's not connected to my RuneScape account? Like a brand new one and use that for the jagex account?
I think you would have to link that new email to your main account somehow, or more likely create a new account under the new email, then add your main to the newly created jagex account.

New accounts have no choice now. You cant complete the stronghold of security without making a jagex account.
"Upgraded" 1 of my accounts to a jagex account, after that I couldnt add it to the jagex launcher or log in with runelite, 10/10 would do again(works on steam tho)
And having your account linked to Steam seems to be one of the biggest avenues of getting hacked in 2024, so that’s great…

Yes, you get none of the benefits of paying for a traditional MMO launcher like WoW, but all the inconveniences of transferring over your accounts.

I'm honestly waiting for the day my account gets banned for all the "totally legitimate" alching I did to get/maintain a couple months of bonds. It was quite a shitty experience all things considered, the times I was afk notwithstanding. I'm embarrassed by my account's magic experience and some of my time in NMZ was "totally legitimate" as well. I've since stopped doing things "totally legitimately" like that and I'm aware my account's days are probably numbered by some metric. In the meantime I guess my goal is to make use of the account to gain some actual skill at playing the game so that I can enjoy myself when doing it all over again on a fresh, unstained account. Assuming there's no sort of forgiveness clause I could apply for whenever they do one of those "routine checks" and determine that my embarrassingly large magic xp was alched in a way that looks less than kosher.
Idk if one thing that might be in my favour is how much I reported the bots advertising rwt websites and shit while otherwise clicking in the exact same spot more often than absolutely necessary to alch things. I almost wonder if my consistently reporting such advertising might be why I haven't gotten banned already?

I really want to upgrade, but I'm INCREDIBLY hesitant after interacting with Jagex systems for almost 20 years now. I worry that if something were to go wrong, I won't be able to get in touch with a customer support agent (because they don't exist) and am effectively risking my 2k total ironman with ~120 days played. I just wish this whole process was automated, so it's not my responsibility if i fuck something up.
I suggest switch now before it's forced upon you. As the latter as much more chance of something going wrong

It's really truly not that hard or bad. took me less than 10 minutes to link everything and I did it first week that they were out. Just do the damn link before it gets forced on you.
2.2k main, 3451 hours, shadow, tbow and scythe. Been using a Jagex account and have encountered absolutely zero problems apart from the lack of HDOS integration which has been fixed ages ago.
Don't worry about it. I upgraded my OG 2005 acc which also is an iron with 400 days played 2200 total. Everything went fine as expected. 👍

I'm not sure i agree with "some botting being an integral part of the game." I understand that buying whatever resource i want at any time is the result of bots largely, but the economy would balance without them. meaning the resources would become more scarce, prices would rise, and people would be incentivized to replace the shortfall in the supply. Competing with bots is like competing with AI in the real world. Once labor is so cheap and efficient, they'll displace a large segment of the population. Real players are losing their "jobs" in runescape to bots.

Launcher was what saved my Ironman from being hacked. Could of lost 2 Ely's and a lot more.
For some reason even after I changed my password they were still getting in. Through an authenticator as well.
I unlinked steam as I thought they could of been getting through there. And I made my account a Jagex account and seemed to be fine since.
They were trying to log in and brute force the pin. I went to log in and someone was on my acc. If I didn't happen to log in at that exact moment, they could of been still trying to brute force the pin.
And hey maybe they will actually be able to do something about the insane amount of bots now! Maybe come back after I'm done with SoD.
I also don't get this "making money off bots". If players are willing to spend gp on bonds, you think bots wont?
jagex launcher is overall much better just for the choice of hdos, new client and runelite

2 years ago i had weeks of not being able to play because someone was trying to bruteforce my password , i love jagex account because i am no longer afraid of stuff like that
What isn’t safe is the fact that you can lose access to your account simply by making it a jagex account, not being able to use the jagex launcher or RL, and if you’re lucky you might get to use Steam, which is how tons of people get hacked. But hey I guess Steam is just some weird sketchy link that idiots click on huh?
@@charlesbrown4483 losing access? it is easyer to use your account on pc on phone and on steam by using jagex accounts , if you use some weird hack client you will lose your account in the end , jagex used to give more info when recovering accounts , very soon they will stop offering any info on that front
If you work in a secure area you sure as fuck shouldn't be playing osrs at work, speaking as someone who was in such a situation with working nuclear power in the navy and would 100% accept being unable to play osrs in any way while sitting around staring at numbers on a civilian nuclear reactor for 8 hours at a time just to be able to call myself reactor operator again.
Only downside of launcher is that you cant sell accounts off it. And that is where your downvotes are coming from, rule breakers.

There should be no account sharing period. PKers shouldnt be able to share accounts. Friends shouldnt be able to login on each others accounts.
Only 1 jagex account should be logge in based on your Hardware ID. No one should be able to multibox. Or use an alt to tank/scout certain things. Scouts ruin the wilderness. Multiboxing ruins bosses.
Literally watched a goldfarmer on Twitch the other day. Use 9 accounts at gwd with Shadows and 1 tank. Multiboxing. Literally using 0 Supplies just farming gold.
That's the way the rules used to be. Except it didn't work. Ppl will use VMs or a raspberry pi(lol) to multilog. You can't really stop it. Or hell, remote other accounts an a server/buddy's pc. They made it allowable because the rule was unenforceable(practically)

I was on a race with a friend of who can reach faster 99 str. I waste a lot on pray pots and when I reach 99 I take a one week break. When I logged in.. PERMANENT BAN for Macroing Major. Bruh what? I never said a word about account security. What I think is funny are the Jagex simps who are praising Jagex for making yet another game launcher, which is completely fucking unnecessary, and doesn’t give you any benefits of any of MMO launcher(like, no paying for every fucking account).

This entices me or other players to make multiple jagex accounts with different emails. (Kinda defeats the purpose of the whole jag account thing) The downside not being able to have the launcher sign in your accounts faster would suck, (youd have to log in and out of the laucher ect)
But now being banned falsely could mean all your accounts are banned for a dumb reason, or by a mistake the system detected on one of your characters.
Its definitely something that could be resolved if the support for accounts was better for the game, but currently you need to have a reddit post blowup, or have a content creator help you reach out for bizzare ban issues that arent legitimate, or get the attention you need
Yeah the whole idea of Jagex account bans stopping bot farms is just outright wrong, I like Condor but that was a shit take. The way bot farms operate completely defeats the purpose of banning entire Jagex accounts in an effort to remove one person's bots. It's basically just a half-step extra in the process that bot farmers use lol.
@@Gomkamf I just got false temp banned on my maxed main after coming back after a year break, getting dragon cup, and then doing 200kc muspah in main game. 2007scape deletes my posts because only streamers and hlc and popular twitter accounts get to dispute their bans on reddit, and I have no hope that the appeal system or twitter will help me. I don't even know how to bot. The ban wears off in a day but I cannot risk playing on that account anymore when I am on a watchlist for the next year and I can get perma-banned at the whim of a jmod that can't do his job correctly.
@@Gomkamf Same i've had the same main since 2006, I've always played fairly working on my account myself. I've never seen a ban. now that's not to say false bans don't happen but they have never happened to me *yet*
