Was annoyed we never won yesterday but was pleasantly happy with the performance barring the finishing of course. We need to keep working on & improving on that aspect of our game & the goals will come.
First time in ages that I like/rate most of our team. Maz is amazing in how he's slotted in perfectly, such a tidy player, similar to Amad, both make the correct decisions & both keep it simple when it's required. Bruno just needs a rest imo don't think he'll get it with the volume of games coming up but yh he'll be fine, will be crucial for us this season.
Loving the De Ligt & Licha partnership, props to Onana helping us out in back to back games, Pen save last week & some potent saves this week too.

It's not an exaggeration to say All the recent signings have been a success so far. Mazraoui & De LIgt have not only made the team defensively more solid, more importantly, they're comfortable on the ball and allow MU to build up from the back. Zirkzee who some criticize for not finishing, is showing the ability to link up play in the final third. Even Onana looks like a new signing this season. The results may not reflect it, but MU have improved this season.

Yeah was waiting on them to go up in first half. All sides now doing same setup, sit in looking for counter or occasional press to create numbers up scenario. Nobody playing us toe to toe at all.

Depends on how you look at it when saying bad result...Utd did a lot of things right. Possession, expected goals up, shots up, shots conceded down and a clean sheet. Should Utd have won? Yes, but considering the shower of shite we've been of late, it's a step in the right direction. Yes, there is still a hell of a lot more to do to improve, but people need to see the bigger picture.

We've had a lot of problems in the last 3 seasons . Defensive issues, ability to keep the ball, and score goals.
Judging by our game yesterday, defensive issues are down to a minimum, our ability to hold the ball has improved. Only thing that killed us yesterday was finishing. There has been a whole lot of positives to take from how we played this season.

Gutted we came away with just a point. But the performance was much better, by a long mile, judging by previous games. I have never seen us control a game quite like we did, in and out of possession. The patterns and combinations with Zirkzee front and center were pleasing, until ETH decided to kill the momentum with those curious changes. Wasteful in front of goal, yes, but we could go and smash Twenty come Wednesday. Very pleased with the team. I see your great work, Ste. Keep it coming 😊
I personally got more positive vibes from this game than the win against Fulham, and so many other performances. This game was united's best game in almost 2 years. The manager seems to have finally solved the two things dogging him for the longest time, patterns in play and creating chances. The defense really looks air tight right now. Dalot inverting and Maz/Amad axis on the right side is really impressive. ZZ was always going to be the striker who creates rather than the striker who scores, he himself called himself a 9.5. My biggest question from that game is does the manager actually convert ZZ from 9.5 to 10(or even an 8)? His interplay is very good, he holds the ball well and he presses alright too. Rasmus is a beast when it comes to pressing and running and will help him and if he gets on the balls that Garna and Bruno were on the end of, I reckon he buries those chances. We've got to have a tactic where ZZ and Rasmus play together and this means that Bruno gets to come off the bench to finish some games. The season is going to be long, we need to not forget that our target is 4th/5th in the table and deep runs in the cups(hopefully winning Europa) This performance helps us a lot for the upcoming games against Spurs and Villa. Those are our must win 6 pointer games.
Finally, I am not worried about Bruno. He will come in clutch like he has so many times for us. But that being said. The board must start doing succession planning. Either seriously considering Fletcher/Ennis from the academy or a target from outside the club(my dream signing is Wirtz). GGMU
we score 2 or 3 goals here and it gets lauded for being an elite performance, which it is minus the finishing. not worried about our season though, however Ten Hag needs to stop this Garnacho starting experiment, love the kid but he's not ready. huge positive for his confidence though

I don’t always agree with ste (especially when we lose) but I value his opinion more than most. It’s clear that he puts in the work to formulate his opinion. And that you have to respect!

We are coming from a horrible away record, the performance and setup was a massive improvement from where we were, you don't get results immediately after moving towards a sustainable system, now this base requires continuous adjustments, better analysis of squad rotation, improving final third movement, improving positional rotation, all these things will come with time. But they need to stick to this approach, and be allowed patience, also, I think we can further squeeze the field in the middle, that'll help our creative players because they definitely get tired, problem is, now teams will be vary of giving space behind them, and this will further ask for patience in possession, and conversting chances will get difficult because the game won't be as open, this will result in frustrating games, but starting it early can help our young attackers start working on their finishing earlier now.
Dalot was so good playing inverted lb, providing the pace for the midfield
Zirkzee and Hojlund up top . 4-4-2 would be epic. Two 6’4 strikers would cause any defence problems.
It’s a good prospect but who plays out wide? 4-4-2 stinks with inverted wingers because there’s an emphasis on width. We lack it immensely as all our players want to cut inside.
Yeah should have kept went to 442. Garnacho touch was otf this match so no issues taking off but amad should went to 10, with Mainoo Ugarte and Case behind the two in diamond. Bruno and Rash was off it again
It sounds fun, but in modern football 442 just doesn't work anymore. Teams either get dominated in midfield or overloaded down the flanks
@@Myke001 not a flat 442...diamond. totally different and we were dominating possession and midfield until subs. Mainoo was dead and Bruno was not good. 442 diamond gives more beef to that attack after they took away wings. We already play diamond by pinching Dalot. Just adjust it a bit

On SkySports not covering Mazraoui, it’s clear they want the ‘bargain of the summer’ to be Chiesa, so they’re holding out for Liverpool to play him.
We are getting close to having Quality depth at each position. When Bruno is having a stinker, Mason can come on and give us a different vibe and different level. We’ve got five subs. I don’t think the boss should hesitate to use them even with the captain.

The more structured the team becomes, the less Bruno will have the freedom to experiment. Eriksen is more of a "By The Numbers" orchestrator who is able to see the patterns and if the team are playing to those patterns he can create opportunities.
Bruno is far more of a "Spot a crack in the armour and exploit it" creator, if the players around him are on the same page. He works better in the more chaotic systems we've played.
More and more EPL teams are able to play well organised systems of defence, we see the improvement, and the narrowing of the quality gap every new season. The league is becoming far more technical, and there are less opportunities for a player like Bruno to play with that swagger.
By no means am I saying he is obsolete, but he needs to start focusing more on being part of the system, rather than the exception who can do his own thing. There are moments in a game where that is the right thing to do. But there are also times he needs to take the more pragmatic route.
We have seen over the years many players who looked average in a certain position, become a different beast when they change positions. The latest example is Joelinton at NEW. Zirkezee may not have the instincts and finishing of a CF, but he's showing plenty of ability to link up play in the final third. Maybe that's where he could thrive for MU.
Aye he seems like he would thrive in Brunos 10 role. He has the creativity but he's also incredibly physical and could do the dirty work in midfield better than Bruno. Could see him sparking a good partnership with Hojlund too. Having 2 big guys up front would open a lot more long ball and cross options as well. I did see Onana choosing to go long with 1 of the the goal kicks and ZZ was the target.
I think we played well, a major improvement on last season, but, we missed a cutting edge, we need another No 9, perhaps a 31 - 33 year old for 18 months in January, just to allow us to always have and out and out striker available.

That Mazraoui is nothing sort of brilliant. Best first few games since Bruno. His happiness is becoming essential to our success in the future. So I hope people are nice to Mrs Mazraoui in the street, she finds the food and shops exciting, her children's teachers are first rate and the ladies down the Mosque are warm and welcoming. Finally, can we sack the scouting department and just open a line to Bayern and talk numbers. Because if the two they didn't want are this good at football, what are the ones they want to keep like ?
The best years for Mazraoui and De Ligt are still to come. They already know the way ETH wants to play.

I am avoiding the politics of this, but suffice it to say that Bayern wanted Mazraoui out, for different reasons but in the same compelling way United felt it necessary to undersell Greenwood. So there is kharma in operation: we lost Greenwood cheaply, but picked up Mazaroui cheaply. It would not surprise me if Bayern have inserted a sharing clause if Mazraoui were to be resold, in the same way United have done so with Greenwood.

Spot on Ste. Maz is an unbelievable buy. No coverage because that doesn’t fit the “United have not improved” narrative. We are still miles off the top 2 but going in the right direction.
People forget Eriksen used to be a pure 10, Bruno can definitely adapt his game because he has the ability and passing range. He just needs more patience but we need to have patience with him too when he starts playing deeper because it might not work right away
10:04 Steph, you are 100% correct with your comments on Bruno. I respect Bruno but i have to keep it a buck, his positioning and patience is such a liability. Sometimes, he does not position himself to push the attack forward and the patience with the ball can be crazy.
I do appreciate his drive for attack but in a game such like that, we needed level headedness and retention - whereas he was playing as if it was the last 5 mintues of the game.
And honestly, that aspect of his mentality towards the attach is the one thing i think separates him from the likes of KDB. If could only know to be more reserved like Odeegard, but can kindle that flare at points, he would be a phenomenal force in all game situations
About Mazraoui when I saw him play first game I said man city would like him, because of how technical he is.
Ste, 100% correct as you've said about zirkzee and Rasmus playing together, zirkzee's hold up play and close control are the best I've seen from any United player in a long while, could be a mint combo.

These Europa league seasons can be really useful for developing the team. The relatively easy mid week games can build confidence and help us to try new tactics.

Happy to admit I was wrong about De Ligt, I had a similar view to Scholes. After what just with the Dutch team coming straight back to put in that performance stinks of quality under pressure!

I agree, this channel, Stretford Paddock and United Peoples Tv are the best United channels. Can’t stand those other toxic waste men channels.
I really would like to see Zirkzee and Hojlund play together. Whether you have to drop Bruno or move him further back as a deeper lying play maker, I don’t know. But I think integrating both in to the starting 11 against teams that are defensively solid will be key to us unlocking them. Hope it happens soon, but I’m happy with the progress this season, even if that isn’t necessarily translating in to points on the board so far.

Bruv we’re all different. Some people are more patient than others and sometimes with good reason. Sam gets things wrong sometimes and the “reactionary” channels are right on the money. We’re all different and want the club to succeed - in our different ways. Plus standards differ, older fans who watched United struggle under SAF are more understanding than fans that started watching United during the glory days.

Ste, for what it's worth I've completely stopped watching all pre- and post-match shows on any network. If United win, there's a negative slant. If they lose/draw, there's a negative slant. I come to your channel because you speak like a fan. But, you're also running your own club and can speak from that perspective. The problem with media now is negativity gets clicks. Someone can say the something with zero fact and it will get views - AND THEN BE REPEATED AS FACT. So I'll keep coming to your channel whether United win, lose or draw because I know you're watching the match the way I am. I want to see improvement. I want to see players who are fighting for the badge and want to be at the club. I want to see progress. I can deal with losses and draws if there's progress. I'm not losing my head because I know this is going to take time.

Felt to me that we were trying to be too cute and fancy with the final ball. People gotta pick their heads up sometimes and put a shot on frame. We made more chances than Palace but I don’t think felt threatening outside of De Ligt’s header and Garnacho hitting the bar. The few chances Palace had were nerve racking and were really lucky to have such a great GK and that Eze absolutely fluffed his lines. And it’s like you said Ste, if one of those goes in, I don’t see United pushing on to equalize and then take the lead.
The truth from an opposition fan (me) here is that yes, United look better than last season BUT most teams would, having spent a load of money on half a new starting 11 in the summer. However, it's still a team - and especially a manager - that's capable of no more than a lower top half finish in the league and that's where you're judged. Your ceiling isn't the players, it's your manager, but the longer you fail to see that, the happier us non-fans remain!

Zirkzee needs Ruud to improve his offensive part of his game cos it's not good enough, his body language is 'too casual' he needs to up his focus, fitness, conditioning & sharpness to be a regular in this team!
No 'Shin Pads' that an issue to the fanbase. The manager should tell him 'No Pads No Play' this is where We think the manager is been careless & not protecting the players.
Capt. Bruno has to play as an disciplined 8 to stay in the team for Zirkzee to benefit otherwise drop Bruno &repace him with Mainoo!
We expect top 4 with this squad, nothing less!
We have to try Zirkzee & Hojlund together, I think could be a great partnership. Zirkzee is more Sheringham than Shearer- not fair or realistic to expect bagful of goals himself, but could bring lots of goals for Hojlund and Garnacho with his intelligent play.
Maz ability was never in question it was his injury record. Thought Bruno, Nacho and Rash were well off it again. Garnacho touch was woeful and he was in the way a lot. Would have liked to see Hojilund and Zirk in 442, with Ugarte Case Eriksen and Amad behind them. Mainoo trending now on 50 solid min but not finishing games out on solid legs. Gotta be better managed. And DeLigt header would have brought down the house if it went in.

Getting a clean sheet is positive especially the way we kept possession and forced their keeper to have the game of his life
The negative was the substitutions were horrendous. We were in total control of that game until our runners came on and the footballers were taken off. As soon as the subs happened, we went back to hoofball and upset the rhythm.
Overall though, pretty happy with the CS and the possession especially 1st half where they couldn't get a kick
We want to be harder to beat & control games better by 4.3.3. - this is why we're missing 'Pogba' type midfielders e.g. Barella, Fofana etc... can protect the ball better cos Bruno is the wrong type of player that can vary the pace of the game so we've prepare to replace Bruno next!
Due a poor start, we still expect minimum 4th place & some cups this season!

For me, it's not just that Bruno loses the ball, it's how he does it. Now, if he was going for a killer pass, they will not always come off. But it's, kind of like Marcus, the small easy passes most times. Or unnessecary worldies.
You almost never see a Kroos or a Modric just give the ball away for no reason. Bruno does it a lot, and I can't stand it.

Last season fans wanted performances like this, even when Utd managed to win games the performances were so so bad.
Goals could well be an issue all season or things might click and players find consistent form but with the emergence of Diallo and bringing in Zirkzee there is a little more depth so I’m not sure the criticism of ETH for bringing on players who could well have started the game is entirely justified.
If you are winning a game make a sub and end up drawing or losing because of the tactical mistake then yeah have a go at ETH.
Bruno has been bad since LAST SEASON. He made 6 good games at the end of the season and people forgot how bad he was all along.
People are always saying that if Bruno was surrounded by technical players he would be magic...I always think that it's the opposite.
Being surrounded by technical players will exposed Bruno MASSIVELY for his lack of control and abilities. We will see it really soon.

Palace really only came into game after the substitutions. Whether that was because theirs were good or ours bad, I don't know. I suspect the latter
We have a new team. Finally the coach has, everything he needs. Ivan Toney, was the missing british piece. Zirkzee & Højlund may be the future BUT yday we saw that a proven striker is what is now missing. The whole back 5 impressed (Licha's nonsense tackle aside), Garnacho would have gotten an 8 for the first half and a 5 for the second. Thought Amad was good on the ball but didn't get on it enough or produce any magic. From about 60th min onwards Bruno gave the ball away far too often and too easily. Bruno has been consistent with his numbers since he came, and although he isn't in the best of forms, he'll still put up numbers in goals, assists and chances. He is the best player for his country with Ronaldo aged. No purple patch lasts years. He played poorly yesterday but he'll be back.
