This is a great demo for what the iPad mini can be. I was so jazzed a number of years ago when there was talk of implementing a Linux desktop on a phone when you plugged it into a dock. For me, the holy grail of computing is having a small touch device, phone sized, but having it transition to a desktop when docked. This has been doable for quite some time and with the power of the newest chips it’s easily doable with the right software. Microsoft, for one, totally blew this opportunity with Windows phone.
Wow.... Never really thought these were actually usable this way. Depsite being an Apple user. Man, you just fixed my dilemma for a gift. Buying a laptop that will go last century in two years or an iPad Pro, that is too heavy, too big to carry around. This setup is a dream.
I am trading in my iPad Pro 11” to help pay for my iPad mini 6. I am planning to use my iPad mini 6 as my daily driver, both home and when I am on the go. I picked up my mini yesterday and so far I am enjoying the experience. Earlier today I checked out a possible desktop setup and found, I can work that way without too much issue. I do like your setup as well.

Thank you for this. Very well done and helpful. I would add another caveat: for anyone looking to replace a desktop or laptop with an iPad (like I'd like to), it's important to see what applications you'll be using and be sure that they run on iPad OS.
If only iPadOS would allow full width use of external monitors and extended screen support instead of the simple mirroring. Do you know, Is this true? I think they are mistaken and you are correct.
Thanks so much. I believe you need to make sure to have enough internal storage avail for exporting. For example if you have 30GB of video on external storage that you are editing and the export will be 4.5gb, you need to have at least 4.5gb internally available.

After one buys the Mini + trackpad + keyboard + external storage... you've surpassed the Macbook Air cost before even getting to the external monitor. Sure, you might already have those things "laying around" but...
For me as a software developer the Mini is just about the only mac I would even consider. The mac just doesn't work for my workflow as a daily driver carry around device and apple insists on hamstringing the iPad so it can't be your only carry either. But the mini kinda sorta works as a necessary evil since apple insists you own a mac if you want to develop for iOS / iPadOS... not that you need it for anything except to 'sign' your app for the app store... so its pretty much just another apple tax for developers. Hey! This was a good watch! 😁 👍 Thanks for this, it helps me to think or decide if iPad mini would be a good buy. That hub truly let us know that 64gb store is okay because we can use external drives. Thanks and keep safe! 🙂
@@racheldupont8947 I will Jerry! Planning to purchase after 3 months, just want to make sure it will be a great buy for us. 😁👌
This is almost there. I would want true multi screen support. That would do it. That and if they could match power with the 11" ipad pro :)
I did this. iPad Mini 6 got really hot in under 10 minutes. Just Safari, no editing.
Probably from charging. What was the starting percent?
Thank you, i got a similar setup With my iPad pro 11 inch and works great
I use my iPad mini 6 with T-Mobile 5G and Screenshift 4X. Gives you a full desktop environment on the local iPad. The dev is supposedly dropping a major update to the app soon apparently
Exactly what I was considering. Great to see it working so well.
Got the mini and love using it. The killer feature is portability, at home and out with cellular. And it is also my desktop. Makes total sense when you can ignore the black bars. I had a 12’9 pro I never took anywhere, and only miss the nits outside.
Very impressive actually. Especially for non techies.
It would be nice if the iPad mini display can be switched off when it's projecting
This with cloud computing and you have a full PC.
Steve is not getting things done.
What a jerk!
@@JerrySchulze Yeah. Hey Steve! There's nothing in the break room that's more important than finishing those TPS reports!
I've got answers for all the things I thought of doing it with an iPad mini 6 . Wonderful video . Thank you so much :)
You're welcome 😊
Absolutely well organized video. All information are well chaptered and listed. Good Work.
nothing beats macbook air/pro still
Hi, you should do another video to see more recent application of the desktop concept.
Good idea!
first time watching you & definitely not the last .. VERY GOOD CONTENT - RESPECT ✊ ♥️
It’s can be my next move if I can have all the app I use for My designer work ( UX & UI )
I just subscribed to your channel . You explain things so well and show at the same time.
wow, thanks so much!
