  • Furniture | English Vocabulary Lesson - Learn some vocabulary about furniture with me while I visit this huge furniture shop.
Don't forget to do the homework at the end - this is a way to learn and remember the words.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    TRANSCRIPT:
Hi everyone, I'm here at a furniture shop
today, so I thought it would be a great
opportunity to look at some furniture
    vocabulary.
Here's a sofa, and some more sofas up
there. And, Americans call them couches.
    Sofa. Couch.
A chair, some chairs. This kind
of relaxing chair is called an armchair.
Armchair. And it's even got a footstool.
This kind of chair which spins around is
called a swivel chair, or an office chair.
    Swivel chair or Office chair.
Shelves. Be careful with the singular and the plural.
One shelf, or some shelves. Shelves.
So this is a cupboard, but the fact that
it's low down means you would call it a
cabinet. And hey, there's a TV on it, so
    it's a TV cabinet.
Here's another cabinet in the kitchen, so
    it's a kitchen cabinet.
Here is another cabinet and this one's
got things on display, so we would call
    it a display cabinet.
This kind of small table for your living room is
called a coffee table. Coffee table.
Beds. A single bed, a bunk bed and a double bed.
    A clock.
Here's a table for the dining room, so
it's a dining room table. And these are
dining room chairs. Dining room chairs.
Here is a desk with lots of drawers. A
desk. This is a draw. Some desk drawers.
This kind of high table in a kitchen is
called a breakfast bar, or maybe a
    counter.
Here is an oven, and the thing on
top which you cook on is called a hob.
    Curtains.
A cupboard which is made for keeping
clothes in is called a wardrobe. Or, if
your American, it's called a closet.
    Wardrobe or closet.
    Lampshades.
So here's something about the word
    furniture, because furniture is actually
an uncountable noun. That means that it's
already plural. Here's some furniture, and
if you want to talk about one piece, you
say a piece of furniture. Because
furniture is already plural, the word
furnitures does not exist in English.
    Don't say furnitures.
    Drawers, and
one unit like this is called a chest of drawers.

My room isn't big enough. When you enter through the door opposite it you see an armchair and ps4 on it. Next to door is chair and sofa. To the right from the sofa is little computer desk without drawers with computer on it. Across from it there is another desk with drawers and second computer. There is a chair near them. To the left from this desk are wardrobe and bookshelves. And to the left from the wardrobe there is an armchair from the beginning of the story. That's all 🤗

Thank you. This is great work. My only comment is to be careful with articles. Every piece of furniture needs an article. You used one sometimes, but not always (A/the chair, a/the sofa, a/the little computer desk, a/the computer, a/the second computer etc).👍

thank you, if you or someone will find errors and will inform me in the comments =)
    my furniture list
    furniture in room:
    a double bed
    a single bed
a table for dining room (but this is room not is dining room)
a small chest of two drawers and one shelf
a middle chest of six drawers
a big chest of three shelves
    a chair
    a swivel chair
a desk without drawers, but with two shelves
    furniture in the kitchen:
    a small dining room table
an oven and on top a hob ? or an oven and a hob on it ?
    five kitchen cabinets

    • @RADEnglish
      @RADEnglish  2 роки тому +1

Great. The only mistakes are: a medium sized chest of drawers (big, middle sized, small).
And it should be: an oven with a hob on top. 👍

    Could I say:telly stand?

    • @RADEnglish
      @RADEnglish  6 років тому +3

For the TV cabinet? No - a stand isn't a type of cupboard, more like a frame. You could say telly cabinet, but telly is quite a colloquial or slang word for tv. People would still understand what you meant though.
