Another killer video,m8! Thanks. One thing I learned while being in Finnish army as a recon was that if you have a same goal with other people and you work for it together, you won't have any feelings of procrastination. Working hard for same goal/higher purpose together makes anything possible. There won't be any negative emotions, because you can't afford it. Lol I think military was my first big step to manhood. It was the best time of my life. There is so much power in unity and brotherhood. Kinda get the same feeling from your videos, because you are bringing people together, while spreading positivity and value. I wish I explained clearly enough. Thanks man, keep doing the good work. It is well appreciated. You are the man!

After watching some of the fantastic videos here I subscribed to Brian's paid service. I have to say, it's the absolute best database of summarised performance improvement material on planet earth. It would take me a massive amount of time to read these books, and then deduce the key points. Brian has done the work for us. I have some of the books he's reviewed and his key points are much more succinct and actionable than my own. In my view, there is no better return on investment in the world that you could get than the $10/month Brian's full service costs. If I could buy it 10 times per month for 10 times the results I would!! Warren Buffett says the best investment you can make is in your own development and skills. Right on. Good work Brian.

First of all, I think the author did a case study on me and then wrote this book :) Secondly, yes, the "only 1 minute..." scenario is my relationship with the interwebs (except when I commit to spending some down time watching Philosopher's Notes or some other uplifting, motivating videos!). The internet is a wonderful thing, and at the same time, the biggest time waster. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten lost in the vortex that is FB. I recently started using the Pomodoro Technique and have had a lot of success with it - highly recommend it for any procrastinator that wants/needs to get sh!t done! Thanks, as always, for the notes!

Hi, Brian! I'm a huge chronic procrastinator, as I've finally realised today while listening to your interview with Timothy Pychyl and watching this video. Thank you so much for posting both in UA-cam!! I truly needed to listen to you both. It was very stimulating and I'm gonna do by best to implement Timothy's and your tips to improve my life. Seriously, thank you very much! My academic life will finally take a turn for the better! 🤗🤗🤗😇😇😇

This is terrific, like he's been looking over my shoulder. About the "only 1 minute....' turning into an hour. That (misspent) time just flies by. When we're working often we're aware to the minute how much time we're spending, and of course when we're really into and everything is just flying along - we don't notice time at all - we're in Flow. This seems to indicate that 'only 1 minute' disappearing into an hour is then 'anti-flow.' There must be something about the symmetry. Just an observation.

You can also use implementation intentions to just get startet by using a behaviour as startingpoint (cue)
After I watch this video I will write this commed to be a better human :)
After behaviour/habit x (cue) I will do Y (small starting behaviour) to achieve Subgoal Z (The reason for doing this)

Odysseus wasn't exactly trying to resist the Sirens' song. He wanted to hear it, experience it, know what it was like, without being seduced by it. His crew didn't get to hear it. Your point is still 100% valid. I just wanted to add to the wonderful Odysseus story.

This is just a suggestion on using other terms of multitasking. I am currently reading a psychology book called The Distracted Mind by Adam Gazzaley and Larry D.Rosen, they interpret that we humans are actually just doing "task-switching" instead of "multitasking". Hope this helps sir. Thank you for making a very useful channel to optimize our lives. +Brian Johnson

Hey Brian, found you couple days ago. been binge watching your clips, great Content. Wanted to ask, the fact that we have a finite amount of capacity with regards to concentration. Taking regular breaks at 60 - 90 mins was mentioned by I think Steven Kotler. Might be someone else. How do we take a necessary break when in the zone as to recover but not procrastinate.

At 0400 hours, I NEVER enjoy awakening! My circadian rhythms are nocturnal! Every morning, I just get started! It sucks! Great video!

    • @yehudahamaccabi9420
      @yehudahamaccabi9420 8 років тому

Marcello Antonio Dreier Thank you for your reply. I am obsessed with awakening at 0400 hours. If I were not obsessed with awakening at 0400 hours, seven days a week, I would not state "It sucks!". It is so important to go to bed, at the same time, everyday. It is imperative to shut off electronic device, in your environment, as much as possible, an hour before bed!
I like to use tea lights candles; burn eucalyptus oil and lavender oil, with sandlewood incense and lavender incense, an hour before sleeping. Also, I read a book, then perform box breathing, visualization, and affirmations. If I perform the aforementioned tasks, awakening at 0400 is much more bearable!
When I awaken at 0400 hours, I will relieve myself, then drink a small glass of water with lemon juice. I like to meditate/pray/visualize/affirm with very little food or water in my stomach. Before I perform my bible study and movement/calisthenics/weight training, I will drink green tea and eat something. When I perform the aforementioned, getting started at 0400 hours is so much more bearable! Saturday evening to Sunday evening I fast, which sucks!
Bottom line: It still sucks to awaken at 0400 hours! For me, awakening at 0400 hours has nothing to do with success or being a winner. For me, awakening at 0400 hours means I am able to control my spirit and urges, which gives me the opportunity to serve myself and humanity with my best efforts.
I wish you much success, on your journey to becoming the very best person you can become.

It's a play on the old children's store "Toys 'R US" that was very popular. Many people use the " ___ 'R US" motto because of it!

What if you can use procrastination to your advantage? Instead of using the power of procrastination to put off the important things that need to get done, why not use it to conquer some of the behaviors that you want to overcome? Instead of putting off work or exercising, why don’t you procrastinate getting angry? Or procrastinate getting upset or scared or worried?
