Maxxis offered to rebalance them at their branch on the other side of Sydney. It is really far for me to travel so i had to put it off. Hi Jonathan, just got my new rig not registered are you happy not swapping out the rear axle. the front and rear tyres are di=ffernrt widths right? are you carring two spares ? Thanks
Morning mate No i haven't swapped out yet. Still the offset correction wheels. My plan is the dwizz track correction next year. I carry only one spare -12 offset as it will work best as a spare all round. Yes it will technically put more stress on the rear drivetrain due to mismatched offset but as a spare it will get you out of trouble.
I'm pretty sure that colour is called "Taliban tan". Your high fuel consumption is most likely due to your tire size. I was running 235/75R16 on my 2014 VDJ79R & usually getting 11.2L/100Km measured on the petrol cost calculator website tool. Then I went to 285/75R16 (4% larger) & it went up to 12.2L/100Km. Your tires are bigger again. Toyota reckons your VDJ should get about 10.4L per 100K's in the standard configuration.
Taliban Tan is definitely the official name haha Yes i'm aware regarding the tyres. I don't believe the DPF helps either! Interesting to note in my Hilux, i gained about 3L/100 when going back to the stock wheels before i sold the vehicle. 10.4?! That's heresy.
@@JCYT I like the bigger wheels, drives heaps better on corrugated & potholed roads & climbs obstacles better & the wide tires look good, better than the pizza cutter 7.50R16 Road grippers it came out stock with. I see you've got the extra pull out drink holder on the passenger side, eBay purchase or do they come stock in the new models?
@@dustyfarmer it was an eBay special. Cheap and nasty. Wife doesn't even use it - she prefers the bottle cut-out in the map pocket. Don't need 8 cupholders 🤣
@@JCYT I bought one too. Those eBay Onestone ripoff door armrests with cup holders are pretty good. I tucked the metal lip strip under the window rubber & they are solid as.
Thanks for your efforts in putting together such a good video. I am considering something like this (same colour) but with a tub and canopy. So just wondering why you opted for this tray instead of a tub? It might be that your set-up (as I don't know what your canopy looks like), affords more access all around the vehicle. Could that be it? Cheers for now & I look forward to following you on UA-cam.
Thanks for the feedback and the sub! Hope you enjoy the stay. I previously had the "style-side" tub with an ARB canopy in my hilux and i found that access and storage options were quite limited. Your main access is from the rear tail gate and with a lifted 4WD, it's quite difficult to access through the side windows unless you're 6ft+. Maybe check out the video when i picked up my 79 and i explain it a bit more there. The tray alone has 3 compartments for storage (a huge trundle and two undertray boxes). You are totally right about the access - that is my primary reason for choosing a tray and canopy setup. Come back in maybe 6 months for the video "Taking delivery of my Norweld canopy" haha!
@@JCYT Thanks matey. I am wondering how waterproof your canopy will be. So that'll be interesting for me. If it's waterproof, gives easier access and is relatively secure, then I am onboard with it. I live in the bush on the Coffs Coast, so there's much about the 79 that suits this neck of the woods. Cheers & take care - Blinky
Hi , Nice truck, I thought that 2022 was the 70th anniversary year. They probably just released I'm limited number of that model with the old-school badges and a few interior and exterior cosmetic changes. Subbed

I was offered a CHANCE at one by Castle Hill Toyota but didn't put my name down due to the 13k premium.... the dealer didn't end up getting one anyway. I don't really like the black housing headlights in the anniversary model..
There's a reason one hasn't come up yet. I've had issues with mine, not happy with it and i don't recommend one for most people. It's not entirely reliable in the hot australian climate

Cool vid mate, May i ask why you opted OME suspension? My 79 is due soon and I'm stuck trying to decide on which brand to go with. Did you look into Lovells or TJM or just preferred ARB? Thanks mate
Thanks for watching! You're gonna love it It was between Lovells 4.2 or OME 3.95 for me. I did not consider TJM due to two local TJM dealerships around me closing. I have always been a fan of ARB products and their customer service. My local ARB Thornleigh were great to deal with when i had my Hilux and are very professional. If your 79 is due soon i'd suggest sorting the suspension out ASAP as the BP51s were a 7 month wait last July. All the best with it!
Hey mate just curious on the legalities of running those tyre sizes, mine arrives in march getting the ideas ready. does it go off the placard? and if so what is the sizes on that card?
Hey mate thanks for the message and hope you get your car soon! Different states have different laws but in NSW - i believe anything below 50mm increase in diameter is legal. I remember getting defected years ago in my old hilux due to tyre size just over the 50mm limit.
@@JCYT cheers man, I’m south east queensland based and its also 50mm diameter (25mm in lift), and 50mm in suspension. so 75mm total height increase on cab. how did it go doing the offset rims?
Hi Colin thanks for watching. There were only 2 options at the time of purchase: Hilux or 79 but it was clear with my GVM needs the 79 was the only option. I had also looked into the new dmax prior but definitely dodged a bullet with that one. I am at the moment really appreciating having the cabin and tray completely separate especially as when going away, things can get muddy real quick. LC300 was therefore never a consideration but i would love a chopped 200/300 if the budget allowed one day! Maybe if UA-cam kicks off for me haha!

Toyota can't supply Australia demand on production on the V8 turbo diesel LC70 & Australia is the only country to receive this 1VD-FTV engine type in the Landcruiser 70 range. It's a four year wait time now with no further orders being taken so potential buyers U.S.A have no hope and as for $35K U.S.D.... As they say in Australia.........You're dreaming.
@@dustyfarmer not dreaming at all..... Toyota can keep the production in Mexico to reduce cost.... $35k to $40k is possible.....Toyota just need to reduce production in Australia since the country has a very small car market......In fact, the car market in Australia is smaller than that of CALIFORNIA'S, which makes Australia NOT a very significant market..... the Australian car market is very small and comparable to markets of 3rd world developing countries. It is so small and unprofitable that many car manufacturers have abandoned the country..... Toyota needs to cease production in Australia and channel its resource to Latin America..... offloading is a new outdoor recreation for so many Americans....and so this simple Toyota Landcruiser 79 series or all 70 series will be a big hit here in the USA market where the market is huge and profitability is very high compared to a miniscule market like that off Australia......it's ok to dream because sometimes dreams do come true..... We dreamed about the return of the Ford Bronco, and now it is here....same thing for the Range Rover Discovery, Toyota Supra, etc...... Businesses go where the money is, and here in CALIFORNIA, there's plenty to be made, and so is the rest of the USA.......until then, it's ok to dream....
@@Aikynbreusov Australian's buy more Toyota Landcruisers than other place in the world, have been for decades, it's Toyota's biggest market for that marque, so there's that. Toyota manufactures Landcruisers in Japan, no-where else, so there's that. I'm sure if Toyota thought there was a market in the U.S.A for a V8 turbo diesel Landcruiser they would service that market, there isn't, so there's that. California with it's C.A.R.B laws, smog testing & strict emissions standards would ban the Landcruiser, especially a V8 tubo diesel like We get in Australia, & one like mine with a straight through 3" stainless exhaust & other secret "mods" so there's that. No-one wants a Mexican built Landcruiser, so there's that. Keep on dreaming.
@@dustyfarmer true Toyota Landcruiser is only manufactured in Japan, but that can change just like Lexus did.... Lexus was only manufactured in Japan, but now some of its models are manufactured in Canada..... same thing with the Toyota Tacoma truck, a cousin of the Hilux, was only manufactured only in Japan, but now it's manufactured in MEXICO...... so the Toyota Landcruiser 70 series, 79 series etc can be manufactured in the Mexican factory.....
@@dustyfarmer it's not true that Australia buys more Toyota Landcruiser than any other country....you forgot Saudi Arabia, UAE, etc..... overall, CALIFORNIA still buys more Toyota than Australia does

Regarding the woeful brakes. I got good results with DBA XP brake pads & I went with the T3 slotted rotors & braided stainless steel brake lines. Even just the XP pads will give better braking results. That dual diaphram brake booster upgrade needs to be engineered approved on your vehicle to be legal otherwise you will void your insurance & roadworthy. Be sure to tell your insurer if you do you own brake repairs/replacements.
@@JCYT Try those DBA XP pads front & rear, only run matched bite sets front & back. DBA says you can mix SP/street performance & XP/Extra performance pads front or rear but I reckon XP pads all round is the go. I get great stopping power out of them over stock and can actually lock a wheel (dirt road only) & have the A.B.S kick in & they aren't too fierce on the rotor wear & get good life out of them.
Not planning to at the moment. I don't tend to add catch can on general purpose, stock untuned vehicles. I do agree they do serve a good purpose but unless it's tuned or hard at work, there are some benefits of leaving it as is. I haven't outlined my reasons in the video. Maybe a future video?
Wow that’s an extensive response for a 2 word comment. I have seen a few videos saying there are different pros and cons for a catch can. I personally had a catch can the second I park the car at home and worked fantastic. I also had a Norweld system at the back, I’ve got a full time canopy. I want to get those tail lights at the 4x4 show, looking absolutely amazing! I’m in Sydney too so I can confirm Jono is a cool guy!
Hey cool vid. Nice rig. I’m contemplating getting one and have 1 question. With that setup, what is the height of the 79 with the roof rack ? Many thanks and keep up the good work 👍
They are an amazing vehicle! Definitely an important question for us living in city areas. With the 110mm + spacer Rhino platform, OME 2" lift and 34s i can fit JUST under a 2.2m carpark. The highest part of the car is 2.15m - the solar panel which adds 35mm on top of the rack. Yes those are extremely tight and uncomfortable clearances and I have a photo of the 79 literally centimetres from the carpark ceiling. Not a good feeling but you get used to it haha. Worse case i destroy the solar panel but that's better than damaging the headboard of the tray.
@@JCYT Thanks so much for the reply. I think that will fit in my garage awesome. Glad your happy with the rig. All the best. Keep up the good work with the vids.

OMG, you give Toyota a pat on the back for this car and after listening to all the faults in your 79 and the money Toyota charge for these things, it's getting close to a scam. But anyone to there own I guess, it doesn't matter what I think, you love it and that's all that matters. The amount of things you need to change to make these a good 4WD is just crazy. Just one question on your rear wheel off set, most don't recommend going this way, rather spending another 3 or 4k on whole axle replacement, I think this wheel offset idea is by far the cheapest and easiest way to fix this silly design fault, how do you find it.
Thanks for watching. I respect your views and I genuinely believe Toyota have done a great job. The way i see it - you spec up ANY australian utility to perform in harsh conditions the cost will be close to the same. But there simply is no rival to the longevity and reliability of the 70 series platform. The cheapest axle replacement i find acceptable to my standard is the DWIZ diff which is probably closer to 10k fitted (axle replacement). To me, that's 10k i don't need to spend and whilst i agree the offset wheels will cause greater stress on the bearings, i'm ok with servicing these bearings earlier than compared to the bearings in an axle replacement. Cheap, and easy to do. The offset correction via wheel offsets for me is purely aesthetic. I don't spend much time in sand. That said i know and have felt the benefit to offset correction especially in sand driving. We were at Moreton Island earlier this year. The 79 went extremely well loaded right up. The sand can get incredibly soft there and i can only imagine what it would have been like for both wheels to create their own tracks given they do not track the same width. Sorry that's as far as i can say regarding this - i haven't driven a stock 79 without offset correction.
@@JCYT thanks for the reply and I agree with doing the wheel offset compared to installing a whole corrected rear axle assembly, the cost is way silly. Others have done the offset route and never had bearing problems, maybe just a furphy to get customers to buy a new rear axle. This is my main gripe with Toyota, in the manufacturing process it wouldn't cost them much at all to correct it then. Also agree, 70 series is very unique and when they are fully modified are a great touring/off road vehicle, but just way out off my price range. The other item I wish Toyota would do, is give there customers an option of a auto transmission and a coil suspension, but I think that's asking for to much.
@@d0min0danc1ng OMG, what a stupid thing say, could buy one if I wanted to, but that's not the point. Do you really think these cars are good value for money, NO. You need to upgrade so many parts after you need to pay $84k or a lot more for this car in cab chassis form and you think this is good, Did you actually read what I said, "But everyone to there own I guess, it doesn't matter what I think, you love it and that's all that matters".
Problem is this setup isn’t legal, in nsw you can only increase wheel track by 50mm total (25mm per wheel) gives insurance companies a way out in the event of an accident

good vid mate
Thanks appreciate it!
Taliban Tan is definitely the official name haha
Yes i'm aware regarding the tyres.

Nice truck, I thought that 2022 was the 70th anniversary year. They probably just released I'm limited number of that model with the old-school badges and a few interior and exterior cosmetic changes.

As far as i know all 70th anniversaries were 2021 build only. I was offered a CHANCE at one by Castle Hill Toyota but didn't put my name down due to the 13k premium.... the dealer didn't end up getting one anyway. I don't really like the black housing headlights in the anniversary model..

Jeep sales would take a hit if this was available in the USA
Not just jeep but chevy, dodge, ford will go down to toilet if this was available in the US
Is this due to the need for more compact utes in the USA? Or just the need for a more simple platform?
Jeep is for people who drive in city and soccer moms who never go off-road.
LC79 wont sell much in USA as it is a hard core off-roader.

Cool vid mate,
May i ask why you opted OME suspension? My 79 is due soon and I'm stuck trying to decide on which brand to go with. Did you look into Lovells or TJM or just preferred ARB?
Thanks mate
Thanks for watching! You're gonna love it
It was between Lovells 4.2 or OME 3.95 for me.
Thanks Matt .

I'll have to get back to you on what's written on the placard.

What’s the price of this LC in Australia?
Currently not for sale as Toyota catches up on production with the updated lane assist parking sensors etc. 80k when I purchased mine. As far as I know they're about 3-4k dearer with a whole bunch of tech no one wants 😱

If this Toyota Landcruiser 79 series truck comes to America and keep the price $35,000, it will be a big hit....

@JCYT worse luck that link doesn't work
Regarding the woeful brakes.
Good call regarding the engineering side of things. I think i'll try a set of more aggressive pads and see how i go!
Catch can?
As of yesterday you can't order a 79 series anymore

Cool car. Note: Matata = Problem.
Haha yes. I'm not sure if i'm keeping the plate but it's growing on me
OMG, you give Toyota a pat on the back for this car and after listening to all the faults in your 79 and the money Toyota charge for these things, it's getting close to a scam.
Any 79 is a steal at ANY price. What r u talking about mate its a scam? Yeh mate it sucks to be poor. 🙄
@@d0min0danc1ng OMG, what a stupid thing say, could buy one if I wanted to, but that's not the point. Do you really think these cars are good value for money, NO. You need to upgrade so many parts after you need to pay $84k or a lot more for this car in cab chassis form and you think this is good,
Did you actually read what I said, "But everyone to there own I guess, it doesn't matter what I think, you love it and that's all that matters".
Problem is this setup isn’t legal, in nsw you can only increase wheel track by 50mm total (25mm per wheel) gives insurance companies a way out in the event of an accident
