  • The first Sample Library I ever bought! Albion One, is it still relevant today when we have products like BBCO Core for the same price? I'll let you decide.

I just bought Albion ONE (and haven't used it yet) and started to doubt my choice with BBC Core and Albion Colossus available but you reassured my decision because I am not a musician and only making music for very short video montages, etc. and I wanted ensemble for ease, all the sound effects and loops, plus I bought some PMT ostinato midi loops specially made for Albion One's high mid low ensembles. The Colossus videos I watched are too aggressive sounding for my needs. Thank you for making this video so I can sleep easy on my decision. You sound great! And, I subscribed. I am a complete newbie. If I knew what I was doing, I probably would have bought BBC Core. I have the BBC Discover. Happy music making and peace to all.

BBC is made for orchestra references not really playability

This is good multi viewpoint review . I own Albion one and for orchestral work is it stably my starting point ..obviously with a decent piano. I’ve invested in several spitfire solo instruments and additional various string libraries (fragile strings ,symphonic evolutions etc etc). I find I’m still very happy with Albion one with my extended and versatile palette of instruments.

Thank you for the comment, I appraise the feedback a lot! I must admit theirs nothing like Albion One strings, this library just has a very unique character that you can't find anywhere else.

@darrenhirst9900 it’s an honourable job, not easy but rewarding, did it for 3/4 years while studying a few years ago now, all the best, and glad you enjoyed the video 😊

The big problem with baking the reverb into the sample is that when you move the dynamic fader down, the reverb also gets quieter and it sounds very phony. You want the fader to only affect the dry sounds, not the reverb. Once a note is played, it's played and the room won't get quieter with you. For this reason, reverb should be handled exclusively by another plugin and never baked into the sample like this. There's no way to achieve a realistic quick dim.

Albion ONE is still relevant, as much as any library, irrespective of age, as long as you like it.
I prefer the legacy, original version, but it's still a great library.
The only downside to these ensemble type libraries is there is no single instrument articulations, so need a solo library too.

Darwin percs are an absolute selling point, so is the col legno, woodwind shorts and spiccatos and the low octave articulations. Everything else I find to be hit or miss

It has the mic positions going for it. That's not common in a all in one.
So it will have use for layering later on with other libraries.
    However, competition is getting tough.
If you are after big epic sound it's something to consider.
With Nucleus you don't get mic positions, you get individual sections though.
So it's really up to what you want the most.
Personally, I'm happy I went with The Orchestra Complete.
With all its flaws, it's a library that I still use after getting other libraries with the engine and all.
String longs and string legato is a bit weak. But other than that it's very nice.
Small footprint, great for sketching, but the brass I feel even hold up against much more expensive libraries (except the trumpet lacks power in the upper range)
It's loaded with articulations. Beats many full fledged dedicated libraries with articulations.
But there's a reason it's so low in GB. No mic positions. Not many round robins/dynamic layers etc.
Untill the day we get everything in a $400 all in one, you have to choose what matters most to you in the library.
I feel like mic positions (or a feature like the engine in the orchestra) is a better choice than individual sections etc.
Unless you never plan to buy other libraries ofc.
However .. Best first library now I would say is .. KONTAKT 7/Komplete 14.
With Kontakt 7 you now get an all in one.
Most essential articulations. No legato, but it's enough to start with.
Since most will probably buy Kontakt eventually anyway, it's the best starting point imo

At some point I want to try Nucleus and I keep hearing great things about the Orchestra Complete. Closest thing I've got to an 'all in one' is BBCSO. With every Komplete they come out with it just gets better and better, only thing stopping getting it is I already have everything I use, but one day I'll do a video on it probs wait for 15.

Are the percussion in Albion available outside of that program if you wanted to buy it with bbc orchestra? Thank you

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  9 місяців тому +1

Not that I’m aware no, but I would highly recommend Kopernikus Percussion from
Metropolis Ark 1 (orchestral tools) if your looking for something similar which you can buy separate

my opinion:yes.Albion ONE is it still worth to buy.Only the Strings are so great.Of course also the other Symphonic sound.
Also the other a lot of sounds you can use for everything.
Maybe one day o do just use Albion ONE to do a piece.
