Thank you, Athens

5 years ago, I came to Ohio University as a freshman, lost and confused. I was hundreds of miles from home, in an entirely new state. The feeling didn't last long however, as Athens welcomed me to my new home with open arms.
One of the hardest things I've ever had to do happened today, when it came time to say goodbye to this town I fell in love with as a freshman so long ago. It feels like an entire lifetime has gone by while I've been in this town, and yet it's also felt over in an instant. I've met some of the greatest people and had the greatest times while living here.
I'm happy to say I've tried to make the most out of my five years in Athens. Some of my best memories include DJing at the various bars, running fest season, and late nights in the newsroom. I'm lucky to know I'll always have family The Post, Brick Life, and more. Most importantly, I'm beyond grateful to every person who helped me every step of the way, I would not be where I am today without their guidance.
Athens is a town that doesn't come up on the map often, but that's ok. In my heart, it'll always be the place in the world where everything just feels right. I know no amount of words, photos, or videos will every truly capture the essence of this town, but I hope I came close with this one last video.
Athens truly is a special place that I'll never forget. The greatest sight in the world to me will always be rounding that last bend on the highway after however many hours on the road, and seeing the town come into view. I'm not sure when I'll get to experience that sight again, but I know I'll come back one day.
Until then, thanks for all the memories Athens, it's been one hell of a run.

My annual homecoming visit rekindles that spirit every year. Make a point to add it on a regular basis with your friends. I have never regretted this trip regardless of the distance I need to travel.

This is so well done! Thank you for making this. Song is perfect. I "left" in 1992 for the first time and ended up going back for my Masters a year later and spent two more years "in the magic". I remember how hard it was to leave. Wishing you the best.

This is wonderful. You are right, it is a truly special place, and that drive "rounding that last bend" as you said, will always be one of the great drives. I hope you'll be able to be back sooner than later. Cheers!
