You should buy it if you love it. Especially if it’s cheap. One day you’ll be happy to have something nostalgic to open. Might even get lucky with a chase card
Respectfully to disagree on Pokemon Go. I think this is a set who's supply is now drying up on storefronts, and I don't think we have a large amount of closet investors holding Pokemon Go. The set is weaker, but you don't have cases of the stuff being hoarded. I built a position in booster packs from broken down tins to lower the cost basis, but we'll see!
I agree with this and half a small collection of loose packs. The only thing holding me back from buying more is I’m not sure what will bring interest back to the set in the future. I don’t foresee the pokemongo app seeing a large enough increase in player base to cause a desire for the set. I think it may be overshadowed by other great sets that are still relatively cheap like crown zenith
I have 2 Pokemon Center ETB’s of every set for SV and I’m thinking of cracking them all open now… especially obsidian flames… a PSA 10 for a guaranteed card is going for 1k… 😮😮😮 should I open them?
Crazy that I bought the 151 PC ETB at $250 two weeks ago because I just loved the design and how displayable it was. Wishing I bought more at that $250 price point now.
I gotta ask you because I’m new to collectible investing: is the value in these cards completely based off of the art style and limited availability? As an OG yugioh player, I assume that these expensive ass cards are meta in the game or something OP like that, you know? I remember playing Pokémon at school back in the day, but we didn’t use energies 😅 I admittedly still don’t really understand why there’s a ridiculous market for Pokémon but I still love it and I’m trying my best to learn as much as I can. However, maybe because I’m just disconnected from the modern TCG, the new games and the cartoons, there’s a lack of sentiment that’s keeping me from grasping why or how any of this is worth so much on the 2nd hand / vendor markets
For collectibles investing the best bet is looking at sealed products and ignoring individual cards except for short-term flips. Individual card values are based off popularity of the character, the rarity of the card, and the appeal of the art. Playability plays little part in the value of expensive cards but does help boost value when it is in rotation. For all sealed there will come a time when the sets will no longer be printed, meaning supply will begin to continuously decrease, thus increasing the value of anything still sealed. With the new rip-n-ship streamers sealed product is dwindling at a much faster rate than ever, and avenues to sell sealed will slowly grow. Being disconnected from the IP technically makes investing in it easier. You can invest without emotion involved, and you have even less desire to rip it open.
I like how edge lord shrouded fable/ twilight masc look. Found paldean fates box just chilling at my local Macys, month later I see a sell for shrouded fable for $33 I was like might aswell you never know. Cool looking box got 4. More of a fan of paldean fates but I’m not finding those anywhere I’m sure

I also think Pokemon Go is a ridiculously fun set especially as a daily player, but the market HATES this set so I don't touch it.

What exactly is a 'reprint' and why would they reprint Astral/Silver/LO/BS (the recent Target stock for $20 each)? Was this not a final stock clear?
It likely was warehouse stock. The low price tells me it was a good thing to get rid of for inventory tax purposes.
