This is a video for beginner sports bettors who want to know what the "Spread" is in sports betting.
Betting against the spread is most common in football and basketball, but understanding it will also help you understand run line and puck line betting in baseball and hockey too.
When records are discussed in sports betting for football or basketball it is usually assumed you are talking versus the spread.

@@rasheemthebestfirstone3274 A lot of it is rigged, but a lot of it isn't rigged, u just have to bet on whats close to what makes sense.. I bet $5 on a NFL playoff game last week and won $2500. 8 leg parlay that I picked based off what I know about teams and players via playing ff, lol

I'm very new to sports betting and I'm doing as much research as possible before actually placing any bets. Your videos are very helpful so keep them coming. Great video. Was confused on the spread. Started sport betting since yesterday on Bovada. Bet $1 on warriors game yesterday and won $0.67. Just wanted to try out lol and now will really bet.
So on spread of it says -7.5 the team has to win by 8 points or more and if it says +7.5 the team has to either win or lose 7 points or less correct?

Hello! i have a question related to half points, what if the line for any given game is just -1/2 and comeback +1/2 i know that i have to go one point or more to win on -1/2 but the +1/2 i dont really know how do i win that, i appreciate your response!!!

Bettors enjoy parlays for their big potential returns. The average odds at most sportsbooks for parlays are +260 for two-team parlays and +600 for three-team parlays. For example, if you straight bet $55 to win $50 on Miami -2.0 -110, and $55 to win $50 on Seattle +4.0, and both won, you’d profit $100. But if you instead put $100 on a two-team parlay of Miami -2.0 and Seattle +4.0 and both won, you’d profit $260 at the standard +260 price.
Sportsbooks love parlays because they force bettors to be perfect. In the example above, if the bettor went 1-1 instead of 2-0, with two straight bets they’d have lost only $5; but with the parlay they lost the whole $100. A three-team parlay forces the bettor to go 3-0; even a normally profitable 2-1 is a losing wager.

+Karthik Sai there is no money line right now, but you can bet Bears +1 which basically means they just need to win (if they lose by 1 it would be a push). The total is the total number of points scored in the game.

The is a 5 point win, so if you took the team who lost by 5 points at +4.5 that is a loss (by a half point). If you took the team that won by 5 points +4.5 it is a cover.

I Just dont get why people bet the spread favorite when they can just bet moneyline favorite. Am I missing something? because if you bet -7.5 and the team wins by 5. YOU LOSE! But if you just bet the moneyline for the favorite to win, you don't have to worry about losing because the spread didnt cover on points. I mean am I like the only smart person in the world? Why is nobody talking about how the favorite on the spread is literally pointless to pick? I get why you would pick the underdog spread option but it makes no sense for the favorite spread option. You're literally trying to magically predict a certain amount of points will be scored and that literally should be impossible. To say a team will just win outright would seem to give you a "bettor" chance?

Lol, not a great video, he exactly did not explain what the spread is. He just explained how to bet. I think what people are looking for when they search this topic is "how does the gambling agency determine what the spread numbers are?", you know, "what do the spread numbers mean" but I'm just a regular guy so what do I know.
