SLR SHOPPING!? The Missing Mercedes for the Collection

- You don't normally see this! We're taking a look at the ultimate line-up of the Mercedes SLR McLaren, with the Selected Car Collection in Denmark. From the SLR Stirling Moss chassis 1, to Ron Dennis' former SLR 722, and even a familiar McLaren F1 HDK... let's check them out!
After building the F1, the next McLaren road project was the collaboration with their Formula 1 partners at Mercedes, the Mercedes SLR McLaren. 2,000 or so cars were being built in total from the original Coupes, to the 722, then the SLR Roadster, a 722 S, and lastly the SLR Stirling Moss; mixing in the 722 GT along the way and followed up by the MSO Edition and HDK that has arrived more recently.
Today's visit to the incredible Selected Car Collection in Denmark allows us the opportunity to take a look at this spectacular SLR line-up along with some of the other cars from the collection including the McLaren F1 HDK, a pair of Bugatti EB110s, a Maserati MC12 Edizione Corsa, Lamborghini Reventon and plenty more. This is beyond the hypercars we recently saw when visiting one of the other portions of the collection, and far from an exhaustive list of what is hidden away behind the closed doors. It's not all though, as we can also take in the cars at Selected Car Leasing and Selected Car Investment.
However, given the Shmeemobiles have included many different McLaren and Mercedes models, it bodes the question of why no SLR of any form, a question certainly asked by @MannyKhoshbinyt and one for us to discuss now.

the SLR's even now from the outside are still stunningly beautiful and look current, its only the interior that betrays their age , oh if only I could afford one, the noise of them is magnificent !

Manny has many incredible cars, but his UA-cam channel is horrible, always videos of him filmed by his assistant showing his face while driving his cars, NEVER any rolling shots or outside shots of his car driving on the road. It’s laughable honestly how bad it is lol 😂 🤦🏼♂️
The main expense of the Mac-Merc SLR isn't buying it, it's paying for the extortion system they set up for its maintenance and repairs. Everything is "Only our little department/company knows how to do this and is authorized to do this.", and they have no scruples in their pricing.
To crown it all McLaren and Mercedes split up all the customer support in their very hostile divorce, so all the departments/companies who got maintenance/repair gold mines for themselves guard their 'exclusivity' very aggressively.

@@madmike6942no modern smart phone is hard or expensive to maintain. You simply put a case on it, a screen protector and charge it when the battery is low. Are you deliberately damaging the phone?

the Stirling Moss is such an amazing looking car, Mercedes had one sitting next to a 300 SLR at Goodwood last year and you can really see how much the heritage influenced the design. One of the GTs lives in the Philip Island circuit reception area for the go-kart track there. Incredible looking machine and it's got an info board explaining what it is, super menacing in a dark grey livery

This was insane cool to see them all together. I love this car so much and would buy one if I had the money. However, even cooler was at 17:12 when the robot grass cutter came by lol

the 722s has to be one of the favourites out of those SLRs
0:04 the Autozone special SLR aka. the Two-Face SLR
the most "riced" car that Mercedes ever made. Looks like a cheap body kit sadly.
now it looks like a street racer who hangs around the autozone parking space... with its giant wing, horrible wheels and horrible overhang over the tires.
They took one of the most beautiful cars ever made and riced it. And then sold it for double the price. Incredible.
And the owner of this car doubled down and gave it the most horrible paint job i have ever seen on an SLR (beside the mega-riced 999 red-gold "dream") ...

I think the Mercedes SLR Mclaren ‘by MSO’ version that Harry’s Garage reviewed is the best SLR variant. I heard only 20 were recommissioned into this ‘MSO special edition’ trim that was offered in 2022. Buyers could pick & choose what they wanted, I believe the price to get everything was like 200K US.
IIRC Options include:
- Full Repaint (super interesting because the SLR only came in black & silver from factory).
- Handling PKG (additional upgrade over the 2011 handling PKG)
- Exhaust PKG (IIRC this also removed the catalytic converters)
- Interior PKG (redoes entire interior including doors, dash & seats also uses ribbed carpeting like MB used in the 60s)
One of my ALL time favorite is that EB110 in that exact blue color along with the Lamborghini Countach LP500S red.
No doubt about it, Tim takes us to amazing collections. The SLR run through was informative. But the icing was the white F1. Very cool. I was in London in 1998 and staying at the Dorchester hotel. Waking back to it from Oxford St I cache across a small car showroom. And what was in the window.. the last F1. And it was available to buy. Could have should have. 😢

What I find funny about the presentation of the SLR is when Tim talks about the theatre of how the front bonnet opens up and it is exactly the same thing on your average every day Saab 900i … of which ,I nearly bought one a few years back, I really wish I had. They are such cool cars…. But yeah, a simple two or four-door sedan had the same sort of bonnet system in the two-stage opening like the later SLR
Meany yrs ago in my home town of Sheffield, I was stopped at a red light and I head a car pull up beside me. I looked over and low & behold it the one and only Rowern Atkinson in his Mc F1 he just turned looked at me as we set off together then he give me that Mister Bean look and he was gone, the sound of that thing was unreal. I'm in my 60s now and will never forget it.
1.33 the 959 only ever seen one of those on road ,stunning 👍👌

Hey Tim, awesome video. The MC12 Unfortunately Never Raced at Le Mans @schmee, its first outing was at Imola in 2004 where it finished 2nd. and its first victory came at Oschersleben with Andrea Bertolini and Mika Salo at the wheel in the same year : )

His private collection inside that grey warehouse is fucking amazing, I went there with one of my classmates that was in training to be on his main service team, the formula 1 car show is fucking amazing

What a special car, and one of my favorites of the 2000’s. It would make an awesome addition to the collection next to the SLS Black, but I don’t know that the expense of owning one is worth the investment.

Saw a 722 Sterling Moss when it was released on the M25 with Ron driving and I presume his wife as passenger. Never seen one in the wild again and unlikely too! 👍🏻

As i recall dauer also offered the eb110 body in carbon fiber and also power upgrades.
This collector isnt afraid of maintenance costs are they lol SLRs multiple, EB110 X2 and an F1, those alone are a scary maintenance thought.

Tim if the time is right for you to get a slr for the collection and you can afford to because I think there is going to be a one way direction with the price of them and as with the cgt and the lfa it's now this models time to once again shine....Would be a great car for your collection.

I remember Jeremy Clarkson Thrashing this Mclaren Mercedes About on Top Gear! The 722 Refers to the victory by Stirling Moss with a Starting number of 722 with a Start time of 7.22am or something like that? It is a Fantastic Car👌

The start number also indicates the start time, and it was the 300 SLR that won at Mille Miglia in 1955

you should absolutely go for it. it is definitely going to be an icon and perfect fit for your collection as it houses a number of mercs and mclarens and such amazing supercars with history attached to them. and as far as history goes it legendary partnership between merc and mcl is one to talk about for ages to come
