you know when Dorothy asked, what a man in his 20's, and a woman in her 40's have in common, there was Blanche, the expert, with an answer. of course Sophia called them: Martha and the Vandellas 😂🤣
That wasn’t the first time Rosalind Cash was cast as the “older” woman in a relationship in a show. She was J.J’s girlfriend for minute on Good Times There was a 15 year age gap there in the episode because JJ’s character was under 20 and she was like 36. The actors were different ages than the characters but it was a big age gap that caused issues for JJ’s family. She was also the dad’s new fiancé in Whats Happening who was not accepted at first by the kids. Of course she’s been in tons of shows not being in a controversial relationship too but when i had first seen this episode and her i was thinking “again? With the problematic relationship”
Age difference always seems to spark debate. My bf is 25 years older than me, (31 & 56) and we have more in common than i ever had with guys my age. We love each other and that's all that should matter
Great vid but the baby was impossible! 😂 Dorothy was divorced after 38 years! Michael would've been in his early 40s and Lorraine would be in her 60s! They had to use that calendar where Sophia stayed 83 the entire series!"❤😂
@dupersuper1938 they had 2. Kate was in Dorothy at the wedding, when Stan had his first affair Dorothy was "at home with 2 screaming kids". Michael was 1 and Kate late was 5! He's at least late 30s assuming all this is literally after the 38 year marriage! Any child younger than 38 is not Stans! And if she was married at 18, married for 38 years and never cheated, she's at least 56! Michael being 23 is impossible! But cute story line though!
@@blackBrainySmurf I am NOT understanding your math. They were married for 38 years, they haven't been divorced for 38 years, They had at let two kids, and unless Dorothy had twins at least one of them HAS to be UNDER 38.
@dupersuper1938 both ARE under 38 and both have to be over 30 because both were under 5 when Stan had his affair with the chain link fence convention woman! Simple math but if Kate was 5, Michael was 3! Dorothy married at 18, 5 years from that she's 23! If Kate was 5 and Michael 3, subtract 5 from 38 years of marriage that's 33. Add 33 and Michael is at least 36. 🤷🏾♂️
I see Mary Jenkins enemy from church E mma Johnson. They were always competing with one another to something at church from 227. Yes, I remember the 1980's Saturday night line up we had 277, Amen, The Golden Girls, and Empty Nest, then Hunter until in 1991 the program called Sisters took the place of Hunter. Thank you, ma' am, bringing back beautiful memories back into my life. God Bless -Jason. Pearl Shae, Rolly Forbes, and Sophia Petrillo kind of remind me all three of them as the same person. All three of them came from the same generation.
It makes me sad to know everyone of them are no longer with us, expect for the legendary actress Lynn Hamilton who played (Trudy) who was the middle one of the sisters. And the one who plays Dorothy's son who is still alive. The actress who played Lorraine better known as the legendary actress Rosalind Cash passed away in 1995. And the legendary actress who played Lorraines mom, actress Virginia Capers, who played the grandma on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air died on May 6, 2004. And the smaller beautiful black women named Libby, who's career spanned decades named Montrose Hagins passed away in 2012 at age 88. My they all RIP.
It's funny how Golden Girls has a lot of continuity errors. Dorothy and Stan had been married for 38 years and Dorothy got pregnant during her teenage years. So technically Dorothy and Stan should have a child in their 40s at this point. But in a previous episode it was mentioned that Michael was 30. And here in this episode he's 23 lol
Notice how in Michael's first episode, it was explicitly stated that he was 29, and here in his second appearance, he's 23? "The Golden Girls" was a great show, but it was notoriously bad at continuity.
I know one couple at my church who are 16 years apart in age, and they have been married for over 40 years with children from previous marriages. However, all of the other couples that I know of who are more than about 5 years apart in age have divorced, and most of them blamed the difference in age as the primary factor for not having anything in common anymore.
I think it’s a beautiful example of that both sides of race have some people of those cultures have issues towards the other but over time things are getting better or that different people can get along I felt like the show was very woke and a head of it’s time because people still to this day still have issues on both side of race instead of focusing on the common which is why I find this episode beautiful because it shows that one day hopefully everyone will get along one day and not focus on differences lol I’m rambling anyways lol
Were the writers r*cist? Of course not, on the contrary. At the heart of the episode is a loving couple whose love conquered age and skin colour. That’s the message of the story. The clever thing the writers did was to show the objections that people have (evidently still to this day), and some of the character HAD to become a “little” r*cist, in order to drive the message. The same happens with Blanche in a couple of episodes where she is a little homophobic, because she HAS to have that learning curve, in the hope that some people in the audience might take that journey with her.
While I do like this episode (it had some of the funniest moments), I couldn't stand how controlling Dorothy and Lorraine's mother were. "I forbid you to get to married!" You're seriously telling that to an adult? An adult who doesn't live with you? Who doesn't depend on you financially? Seriously? Thankfully they both came to their senses in the end, though it's sad that it took Lorraine being pregnant to get that... and it's still kinda irritating that either grandma thought they had any say in what the grandchild's name was going to be. Weirdly (SPOILER ALERT) we never learned the baby's name. So I like to think that Michael and Lorraine once again ignored their mothers and named their child what THEY wanted.
Two things: 1. Don´t know if it was brought back but Disney banned the episode because of "black face". Don´t know if it was something themselves decided or complaints from some people. As we all, with brains, see they weren´t doing black face. That was the joke. That it appeared as if they did but of course wasn´t the case. 2. As for the difference in age...it DOES matter. In modern times more than ever. In past times, people could handle it because circumstances were different and society was built differently. But, in reality, people have to stop and think in the future. That´s when the differences show: body and interests mainly. And one more thing...regarding not wanting them to be married it wasn´t because of racism but because families thought it could lead to problems of rejection from others.
How stupid! For one, nothing should be banned or altered. That´s how humanity was and there´s a reason you learn from the past. And, second, because they weren´t doing black face.@@RazvanMihai88
Well Dorothy and Greta had every right to be concerned, that much is true. But sometimes the greatest thing a parent can do, is to take a step back and let their children make their own choices and their own mistakes.
That is true. As what happened with another episode. Sometimes, maninly family, interfere doing their best just so that the people involved in the situation solve things and then they take it against the family.@@MegaWicked89
I am sure that he will leave her when she can't give him a child, maybe she still can though I didn't watch the end because they have a baby. I must be Black cause I can't wrinkle; key is to not go out in the Sun.
Something I'm learning as I rewatch the series alongside you is that season 3 is my least favorite and least remembered season out of the whole series. I think this episode right here is my favorite of the season. Season 5 is my absolute favorite. MVP for Blanche she made me laugh the most alongside Rose
The Golden Girls never shied away from any subject and that’s why they are loved till this day. ❤

No special doll today?? I think it should go to Blanche, she knows what's happening--"hot damn!'
I was still getting used the dolls and totally forgot until I was done filming 🤣. It might happen once or twice more, but then I'm on an MVP roll 😉
Lorainne's mother also plays a grandmother on the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.
And Lorraine played a teacher on the show for Will’s graduation.

As you get older, you will find the same issues with mixed religious marriages and even some gatherings. The Golden Girls covered many topics.

Especially bad considering Dorothy and Stan were married for 38 years and they had to marry as they were pregnant with Kate.
