Real life usage and real people of all skill levels using them. I'd have no issue with what you get for the price. Saving enough money to purchase a dozen more tools that aren't included and still save money compared to high end brands.
I have been using this tool kit for three years now. I did a LOT of research before I made my purchase, and I am glad I did. Overall, I have been very happy with my kit. I keep it in my vehicle and have used it on the road and at home. My son-in-law thinks it's really strange when we are working on a project and I pull out the Pittsburgh kit because the toolbox in the shed is very well appointed with really high quality, Made-In-USA, hand tools. But he and I agree that having such a comprehensive set immediately at hand saves us both a lot of walking back and forth to the tool shed. Plus, the blow molded case lets us see instantly what tools have been put back and what needs to be located at the end of the day. This is good because the number of small tools I have lost (sockets and extensions) is ridiculous. I was not really happy with any of the tools inside the front cover. The wrenches are complete junk. There aren't enough sizes to do some jobs, they aren't comfortable, and the finish is poor quality. They are not even labeled with the Pittsburgh brand. Almost immediately, like the day after I received the kit, I went onto Amazon and got a much more inclusive set of ratcheting combination wrenches and a tool bag. I added to the bag as I identified deficiencies in the original set. It doesn't come with grove joint pliers or a breaker bar, for example, so those were also early adds. The included set of screwdrivers, as was described in this video, work all right, for the most part, and come in sizes to suit most purposes. But honestly, the handles are too small to fit my hands. So I bought another set and added that to the bag as well. I can say this about the handles on both the included pliers and screwdrivers. The finishes are easy to grip when your hands are slippery. They are kinda rough, which gives you good grip, but not so much that they are uncomfortable or overly harsh on the skin of my palms. I just hate trying to wrap my hands around those skinny, little, screwdriver handles. Actually, I think I use the included screwdrivers more than the extra set because they are convenient. And my son-in-law's hands are smaller than mine and he uses them all the time. One thing that my early research told me was that this set travels well if you keep the foam pads that are placed in between each tray layer. They were, however, very flimsy and the first day I was using the tools it was breezy and I had to chase after those foams pads when they blew away several times. I tried using the kit without them and many smaller sockets came loose from their mounts and every time I opened the box I had to put a couple back in place. After that, I glued the foam to some drawer liner material and retained them in the box. That solved both problems. Now, that's two paragraphs of what I didn't like about the set. But as I said in the very beginning, I actually like the set very much and use it all the time. As for the sockets, I love that they are set into removeable trays that I can set out to make whatever I need available at a glance. Their quality is great, and I haven't had one break yet. The ratchets, while clearly not as sturdy as those in my main toolbox, have been quite adequate, and in fact, have a higher tooth count than many others that I own. I haven't many of the higher tooth count ratchets in my possession. They are more expensive and I haven't seen the need for them. At least not for what I do most. When I have an application that requires an extremely short throw, I have gearless ratchets in 1/4" and 3/8" drive. Also, the selector switches are backwards from all the other ratchets I own. That means I am constantly accidentally setting them wrong. No worries, though. It doesn't slow me down enough to worry about it. The sockets (which are labeled "Pittsburgh Pro," by the way) are great. When I am using this set, I have yet to be left without a socket that I need for any application. There aren't enough extensions, as they said in the video, so I have a few in the tool bag, but too many. I can't remember which I felt I needed, but it was not very many. I have been VERY happy with pretty much everything at the second and third layer where the ratchets, sockets, and extensions live. I'll bet that at least 1/3 of the sockets have NEVER even been used by either me or my son-in-law because there are many sizes included that you just don't need for 90% of the applications I have come across. Especially in the selection of deep sockets. Frankly, I don't use them much. I don't worry that I spent too much money for a tool set with tools I have never needed. Some day, I know I am going to need an odd sized socket and I'll bet anything it is already included in this set. And this tool set was very reasonably priced. I am convinced I chose well, and if any of my grandkids decide they want to work with their hands like I did, I would not hesitate to purchase this kit for them. Of course, I would also get them the auxiliary tools like I have in my bag, just to be certain that they get off on the right foot. At the end of the day, I agree with the conclusions that they came to in this video. I haven't had the same problems with the case as they have, but my set is not subjected to the same extremely heavy wear and tear as theirs. And, like I said, I have yet to break anything in the kit, although the presence of a Harbor Freight store only a few miles from where I live WAS a contributing factor in my purchase decision. So, if anyone is wondering whether or not this is a good buy, I would have to give it an unqualified thumbs up, and do it with a smile on my face.

A good craftsman never blames the tools. If they get the job done, that's what they're for. Harbor Freight has some amazing stuff for the money; just have to be a bit careful with the _really_ cheap stuff. (Isn't that always the case though?)
I have bought 6 of these kits and love them. 4 were stolen and one was a gift for my brother. I bought 2 sets of combination wrenches in roll up pouches that I keep in the cart with them. Awesome kits to get most any job done. And I've never lost a tool yet. I have it on a 30" 3 shelf cart with spacer under it and a spacer behind it to keep the lid from just hanging over the back. Best kit on the market in my opinion.
Definitely a good value here. I used mine for about 6 months in an auto shop, it was my main tool set along with some other cheap tools. Hadnt had a spot for my toolbox and so was working from a cart and this kit. Everything held up well, I only broke a screwdriver from misuse.
I must say most people are reluctant to admit using HF tools. First thing though, I throw out the plastic cases, and buy Olsa Tools organizers with a US general toolbox. I have used Pittsburgh for at least a decade and have last a very long time before upgrading to their ICON line. I wish I could start a HF tool truck business, lol.
You got me sold. I was hesitating because of all the fuss about harbor freight but seeing this review from a real mechanic has me sold on their tools. I'm going to build my own set of their tools instead of their premade set which has a lot of filler like the other brand sets.
Yeah, the lack of wrenches, the toolbox, and the feel of the screwdrivers were my biggest gripe too. All in all, it was good for what I paid for since they were on sale when I got them. I think what I’ll be doing is just buying Pittsburgh’s $20 set of wrenches, some tool organizers, and a shop toolbox. All in all, I think I’m overcoming buyer’s regret and I recommend this for people starting out
Honestly, I love some of my cheaper tools. A fraction the cost, and still get a lifetime warranty. We don’t have a Harbour Freight in Canada, but we do have Princess Auto, and Canadian Tire, and when I buy tools, I shop there for the same reasons as you. They are right down the street and lifetime warranty!!!

I just bought this exact same set from harbor freight from their open box discount area for $150 & everything was in it & looked like nothing was ever used & it has everything I need to use in it... I think it's an awesome set.... But the only down fall is the box... I wish the box was a drawer style box kinda like the hart mechanic set... I had one of those but it got stolen & I thought it was a great set which it is.... But this Pittsburgh set is hands down on of the best sets I've ever owned.... Has a little bit of everything but all the sockets & bits is my favorite part about this set..... All in all I got a pretty good deal for basically a brand new set..... Great review also!!!!
This is the kind of review that matters to an average dude. You don't always need the nice stuff, you just need to get the job done, and sometimes the tool becomes sacrificial.... in which case a cheap tool doesn't hurt my feelings if I destroy it.... and it happens. With a HF less than 2 miles away, it's only 5 minutes away if I have to replace something. No shock saying some stuff could be a little better, but a few $ in add-ons & upgrades could make it a solid set. Esp for a set I'd put in a tool roll for on-road repairs or a junkyard trip bag. If you lose a tool it's not a big deal.

You can fix the hinge crack problem by melting some aluminum window screen mesh across the crack using a soldering gun or plastic welding kit (do not use melt in wires, which are not as strong a mesh).
