@@christophervaldez8746 I wanted to know who did it first, so I researched it, and it shows that Jerry Lewis ripped the bit off of I love lucy. The episode, Be A Pal was episode 2 of season 1 which aired in 1951. Jerry Lewis's movie scared stiff premiered in 1953.
I love Lucy. "Mama eu Quero" is actually a song in Portuguese/ Brazilian. Cute. Divertido (funny). Carmen Miranda, who was born in Portugal was an international super star.
I saw thi9s back in the day with my Grandparents in our usual nightly routine of Johnny Carson and the Tonight Show, then I Love Lucy and Mash.. Ohhhhh for the days.. I totally fell out laughing when Lucy pulled this skit. Thanks for the memories..
"You just saw the reason why Lucy Ricardo never had much of a show biz career herself". -Bob Goen on one episode of the short lived prime time game show, "The Hollywood Game".
This is one of my favorite funniest gags, record player humor (skipping, fast and slow motion). Does anyone else know any other shows that have this similar gag?
The version heard here is an edited version of the 1940 single 'Mamãe eu Quero' (1940) by Carmen Miranda com Bando da Lua e Garoto. It should be on any of her compilations. Carmen Miranda's filmed performance of the song (different than her record version) from the 1940 film "Down Argentine Way" influenced the 1941 Mickey Rooney 'Bombshell From Brazil' performance in the 1941 film "Babes on Broadway", the 1943 Tom and Jerry cartoon "Baby Puss", plus Jerry Lewis (in the 1953 film "Scared Stiff"), which itself influence Lucille Ball's performance here.
1:35 Lucille Ball really did trip and she managed to still stay in character
The way she kicked backwards leads me to believe this was planned. It's not natural to kick your feet backwards are you trip and are falling forward.
I think I was eight when I first saw this. I loved it then and I still love it fifty-two years later! Thanks for posting.
The part where the record starts skipping always cracked me up.
Jerry Lewis did the same exact bit, with this same song!!
Especially when the record started speeding up

This song is used on Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry! ❤😂
I had forgotten about the record speed change... so silly that she kept going along with it!
Eu chorei de rir, a cara da Lucy ficou hilária, muito bom.

jerry lewis, tom and jerry
The Three Stooges did it once.
This is so hilarious!! I wonder what Carmen would be saying right now😂
I've read that Carmen Miranda was actually sitting there as they filmed this and if I remember correctly, she enjoyed it very much :)
Maravilhosa!
This is masterpiece of a scene 😂😂😂😂😂
i am currently looking for THIS version of the song. The record. I like the way it sounds in this episode, the most. -Brittney

Just came here after the Carmen Miranda episode of be kind rewind
It’s the Mexican and Brazilian references to remind her Cuban husband of his home country for me 😂
Donde puedo encontrar este episodio completo me gustó
Ole! :-)
😅❤Classic!
Let the politically correct police get their hands on any and ALL I Love Lucy classics - I'll raise HOLY HELL! I love this lady!
Well let's see her husband was Cuban and only she got to make fun of his speech. She was always politically correct for her time.
So she decorated the apartment with a Mexican theme but dressed like and lip synced to Carmen Miranda who was Brazilian……what was the goal here?
And Ricky was Cuban. I think it was an insult to all three countries.
Tom and Jerry brought me here😂
