I think sand is the best option since you wont have to worry about the bottom of the pond having all that algae stuck to it, plus looks more natural that way.
I think sand even though it can make it harder to clean it looks a lot better

Awesome video. Your saltwater pond is probably my favorite of all the channels. Its really fun watching Rory and soon Dory darting around with the sharks. I guess i am for removing sand, cleaning algae isnt fun, make it as easy on yourself as you can

You should name the new remora Maury, pronounced the same as Rory just with an m. Dory only works for blue tangs in my opinion, thanks to Finding Nemo.
Also, I'd definitely vote to keep sand in the pond. I know no sand makes cleaning easier, but a natural looking pond is always going to be 10x better looking in my opinion. Just add some cleanup crew... anfre more urchins, tons of turbo snails, etc. to help with the algae. Maybe even a few plants to pull some nutrients out of the water.

Put sand and crushed coral in the pond once you redo it.
I also think you should catch a parrotfish and some sargent majors once the pond is fully redone and settled.

Sand would be better. Just make sure you fill it up full instead of areas with sparse sand that allows algae to build up. Make sure you fill it up so no areas is missed.
