- Aiden Aslin joins us for his first television interview for his brand new memoir, 'Putin's Prisoner' - in which he reveals the full, harrowing story of his time not only fighting against Putin's army but his six months facing death in Russian captivity. With dual UK and Ukrainian citizenship, Aiden was living in Ukraine with his wife and serving in the marines when Putin invaded. After joining the frontline, he eventually ended up fighting in the brutal Mariupol steelworks siege before being captured and taken prisoner by Russian forces. Held and tortured for 6 months, Aiden was tried and sentenced to death by a kangaroo court before eventually being freed as part of a prisoner exchange, thanks in part to Roman Abramovich. Aiden's memoir is an incredibly powerful first-hand account of life on the frontline, and why he thought he'd never make it home - co-written by John Sweeney. Aiden now lives in the UK with his wife but is moving back to Ukraine soon.

I'm sure he does. He almost committed suicide in prison. How hopeless it seemed.
Read his book. Maybe before you talk. Guy is absolutely shell shocked and full of PTSD. He is so very thankful to be alive but also is healing and quite aware that there are his friends who still are living what he lived for 5 months- or worse. How many tours have you done?

So those people were willing to sacrifise a few of their own men to putin, in order to get this social worker released. Things like these do happen. There is always a soft heart that beats underneath the hardened exterior of every individual including I am sure that of vladimir putin, irrespective of his background and his past, which is why I have never judged anyone ever, but neither do I believe in exploiting and in taking advantage of another persons weakness and their soft corner.
