A New Season of Chloe
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лип 2022
- Young Singaporean violinist Chloe Chua @ChloeChuaviolinist is a unique phenomenon in the short history of Singapore's classical music scene. Beyond her astonishing level of violin artistry - increasingly recognised around the world - Chloe exudes an underlying personal charm next to her magnetic stage presence that has only just begun to blossom. A new season of Chloe has arrived.
The Singapore Symphony Orchestra is proud to present Chloe Chua as our Artist-In-Residence for the 2022/23 Season. With our newly appointed Music Director, Hans Graf, Chloe will perform in several concerts in the coming seasons.
In this documentary, shown for the first time ever are excerpts from her April 2022 performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Locatelli's "The Harmonic Labyrinth", at the Esplanade Concert Hall, Singapore. All music heard in this video is performed by Chloe and the Singapore Symphony. The recordings will be released as a concert video and album in the near future. This is the first time Chloe has performed the Four Seasons in its entirety on stage.
Chloe Chua performs Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra next on 27, 28 & 29 July at the Temasek Foundation SSO Hans Graf Inaugural Concerts, as part of the programme celebrating Hans Graf's Music Directorship appointment.

Popular comedy duo “twoset violin” she says in the most refined and dignified voice possible😂
They could at least have said "and violinist duo", I think.
I thought they were bubble tea connoisseurs
@@bellsctiz7120 they *are*
Chloe's not only a giant on the violin, she's also a giant of humility and charm. We love you, Chloe.
I'm glad the film mentions her "Professor Chloe" appearance on Two-Set Violin (where I learned of her) and have followed her ever since. Chloe's concerts were musical high points during the pandemic, and I'm sure Chloe Chua will continue to be one of the 21st Century's greatest stars.
They did their 4 millionth performance with the Singapore Symphony.
She is just an ordinary girl. She has good looks, she is charming, she is cute as hell. Nothing new here. Except when she is playing the violin. Then she is a Godess shaping the Universe.

Chloe's violin playing is magnificent at a very young age. She and Twoset inspired me to pick up the violin and learn it even when I am already an adult. Looking forward to see her grow not only as a musician but as a beautiful and humble person despite her great talent. The music she offers us is like a glimpse of what heavenly music would be. Let's continue to support her in her musical journey!
It is amazing to see many individuals such as yourself be inspired by these brilliant violin personalities. Keep it up and thank you for your support!
Chloe Chua, Jewel of Singapore.
Chloe Chua is easily one of the most intriguing artists I have discovered in the past decade. It is exciting to follow her soloist career from the start. Congratulations, Chloe and SSO!🙏🏾
We are deeply grateful for everyone's support, it means more than you all realise. Thank you!
I wonder how many belong to that select but growing group of people who have travelled to Singapore in order to hear Chloe perform and/or because they have become curious about the country because of her.
Chloe is the violin, she doesn't just play the violin, Chloe is the violin, she is the music
I admire you and I love you so much Chloe
May life have the best for you!💗
She looks always so friendly😊🎻
The concert was incredible. Chloe is so unbelievably talented, but is such a mature and humbled young lady. And SSO never fails to impress! Love from Australia xx
Thank you for your kind words! You are also right about Chloe.
You were in Singapore for the concert?
I love how TwoSet is credited on this video😂
Chloe Chua and So Hyun Ko are my two most favorite violinists.
I know there is legends like Hilary Hahn, but they are definitely my favorites.
Actually, personality matters in music. IMHO So Hyun Kyo lets her ego gets in her way, while Chloe Chua plays music with all her hearts
@@sasha-mq4pq Could you explain why you think that? No animosity here, just curious.
@@obiwan88 I meant why they think that So Hyun lets her ego get in the way.

While people praise her for her virtuosity and talent, let’s also appreciate how diligent of a musician she is!😍
i swear someday i'll go to sg to see the sso and chloe perform!!
Chloe is such sunshine of a person! Her performances can heal a soul not only on a musical level, but on a spiritual level too. She’s so amazing. I wish her and all sso good luck this next season 💕.
Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.
Chloe and TwoSet sparked my love and interest to try the violin again as an adult. Her playing and artistry is astonishing for her age and indeed does capture our hearts. I'm looking forward to see her growth in the years to come.
I hope that this is the fore-runner of a feature length film about Chloe. In the right hands, the story of her musical development that integrates excerpts from her performances would be a very beautiful piece of art cinema.
I especially enjoyed Chan Yoong-Han's observations. and it would be wonderful if at some point we could hear similar reflections from those who performed with Chloe at the 2018 Menuhin Competition. Please don't let their memories of her superb musicianship and the magic she conjured up in the final just fade away!
Chloe must have put in SO MANY hours of practice and focus into her playing! Now it’s paying off! Hope she’s having a lot of fun!
You would be great too, if only you practiced 40 hours a day.
her vibrato, her tone, her instrument. just extraordinary. so freaking beautiful.
Yes, we are looking for Chloe!☺️ We love Chloe.❤️ Twoset's subscriber here.🤘
I actually went to watch her Four Seasons concert with my family and it was absolutely amazing!!! Cherished every moment listening to her play
There are only 4 days to go until Chloe's recital on 7 August at the Copenhagen Summer Festival.
Last year the Festival posted on its channel a couple of days afterwards a part of the recital by Alexandra Dovgan, who had been the co-star of the Festival until Chloe had to cancel because of covid travel restrictions.
So there is at least a chance that the Festival will post at least a part of Chloe's recital on its channel, and likewise do so promptly.
The program for Chloe's recital is really exciting and entirely new. She hasn't performed any of these works before:
J S Bach Sonate - BWV 1017, Siciliano Largo and Allegro
Peter Tchaikovsky - Meditation, op.42
Pablo de Sarasate - Caprice Basque
W.A. Mozart - Rondo , KV373
Kam Ning - Amazing Grace, arr. for solo violin
Eugene Ysaÿe - Caprice d'après l'Etude en forme de valse de Saint-Saëns
Hopefully a video of the recital will appear on her own channel eventually, but one should look out for it on the Copenhagen Summer Festival's channel too.
Good luck in Copenhagen, Chloe! Mozart #5 was fabulous!
When I moved to Singapore, one of the biggest personal perqs was the access to see Chloe in concert live! What an inspiration to see a youth in this day and age who embodies traditional values... hard work, humility, and grace. When I think of how the rest of youths today behave, sometimes I will watch one of her videos just to give me some hope for the future.
Yass, Professor Chloe❤️
Her Pentatone debut is out soon, Vivaldi and Locatelli. It's a wonderful recording and I encourage everyone to check it out.
Hear hear!
I likewise encourage everyone to check out Chloe's marvellous performance of Tchaikovsky's "Meditation" at last August's Copenhagen Summer Festival, which is hidden away on the Festival's channel.

She's one of my favorite players. So talented at such a young age.
Aww, Chloe is just sooo adorable! I learned about her from Twoset's video and immediately became a fan 🥰 she was just so good but still so fun and humble and full of smiles and laughter in the video that I can't help but love her! Wishing for her greater success!!! Chloe shifu! 😘😘😘
GO CHLOE!!! saw her perform vivaldi and she was fantastic!
Chloe's amazing!! 👏👏👏
Dear sir, madam, will Chloe Chua play in France someday? It would be great to see her performing at a live concert. Thank you!
We can't say on her behalf (we really don't know), but we sure hope orchestras and concert halls around the world will invite her!
Chloe is a treasure. Her playing is remarkable.
Absolutely AMAZING WONDERFUL . Many thanks to the Symphony for choosing Chloe for Artist in Residence.. My day wouldn't be complete without listening to one of your concerts. Be strong and continue with your wonderful work.
You humble us! Thank you for your very kind words!
First exposure for me with Chloe was the 2018 Menuhin Junior Competition where she and Christian Li both won. Then saw her at a TwoSet review video. Next thing was TwoSet calling her Professor Chloe and now a new season! How thrilling!
Singapore Violin Sweetheart is growing up
Chloe Chua is the best I can easily relate to her!
I'm a beginner with viola and as an adult starting with an instrument it's quite daunting. I just recently discovered Two Set and learned about Chloe. She's such an inspiration. Ling Ling 40hrs!!
Chloeちゃんほんとに可愛いし憧れのヴァイオリ二ストです!
Can't wait for the 4 seasons' album!
I am currently hooked on her interpretation of Histoire Du Tango. Her playing just makes me very happy.
Can't wait to watch Chloe's performance again next week😀She is truly amazing. I hope SSO can release her Four Seasons Concert on UA-cam soon.I really hope to hear her Harmonic Labyrinth again. Nice to hear snippets of the concert in this video.
We're looking forward to showcasing that indeed! We also have a lot of footage filmed for this documentary that remains unused. In one interview segment, Hans Sørensen, our Director of Artistic Development, reveals that Chloe had only been learning the Locatelli for about one month before performing it in April.
Now, let that slowly sink in.....
Can’t wait to attend the upcoming concert on 29 Jul!
Awwww Professor Chloe! It's been so cool watching her growing up as a human being and as a musician! I'm so happy that our #ViolinGang has so many talented and nice people. And of course, she can always count with us TwoSetters and Ling Ling wanna bes. We love you Chloe!
Chloe is kind, beautiful and charming. Her playing style is unique; I don't know how to describe it. It's amazing... much love from Brazil.❤❤❤⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This new video is wonderful, Chloe! I'm so glad to see it! The script and production values are of the highest quality, as befits your talent. Please continue to give us behind-the-scenes glimpses of your life in addition to performances. And don't forget that you have fans who love you all over the world. I can't wait to see you live in the States!
14:30 I love Chloe so much but I LOST IT at the look on her face. That is the EXACT same expression I get right after I perform. Smile through the inner pain, my dear. No one else knows... the inner ear is the most critical of all
I love ChloeShe is one of the greatest world-class soloists of this generation and her sound fits so perfectly with the SSO✨
More performances from Chloe. 🥰😘😘 Great news. 😊
An excellent video, but I hope that all the attention to Chloe's appearance and mannerisms and coaching her how to behave will not spoil her natural charm that we all love as much as we admire her musical ability.
We totally agree with you. We are being mindful. No one here is "coaching her how to behave". However, as you already know, Chloe is no ordinary personality. And when we say in the documentary that she is "unique", we really mean it. What this means is that we need to do our due diligence as Singapore's national orchestra, and for our very special Singaporean artist. We cannot not do enough, so to speak. It's a delicate balancing act, we admit, and we will do our best.
@@singaporesymphony Nice to know that she is in such good hands.

A heart-warming clip. Look forward to watching the July 28th live streaming. And, with tickets also, I eagerly anticipate to attending the 29th concert.
I hope one day Chloe Chua comes to play in NYC. I would buy tickets immediately. I only learned of Chloe Chua (& Hillary Hahn) from Two-Set Violin's UA-cam channel. Chloe playing smooth like butter... or silk. Giggles
You are a charm, Chloe
Without a doubt, you are the best violinist of these times not only because of your talent and mastery in playing the violin, but also because of your simplicity and humility as a person. Even more so, for your extraordinary memory to memorize the scores of the compositions that you usually perform as a soloist on violin or accompanied. Success and blessings, Chloe. Simplicity and humility is the privilege of the GREAT.
Her smile is sooo sweet!
Wow Chloe is come back
we all love Chloe sensei!!!

So talented and lovely!

Congrats Chloe Chua and the Singapore Symphony orchestra! Chloe is amazing and the fabulous job of SSO is unbelievably spectacular! Thank you Maestro Hans Graf! I am currently playing Mozart’s 2nd Violin Concerto! Chloe is one of my favorite violinists. Thanks again! 😀 🎶 ❤️
It's heartwarming to see Chloe becoming a Child of the World. All of a sudden there's a flock of Mothers and Fathers scurrying around and worrying about this or that. She is precious so it's understandable. I, for now, stop dispensing my two cents of wisdoms because of traffic congestion. Chloe's minders' purses might already be full of them :)
From the moment I heard those hauntingly beautiful sounds of the Autumn, I've been yearning for more.*
Godess Chloe, I pray you...
* It took me some time to identify the excerpt because I heard always something different when listening to the others. In the end I realized it was titled in the video for the lesser beings like me :)
shes so pretty omg
Chloe is a blessing to this world.
I particularly like how in all of her performances with different orchestras, she has a very direct and also joyful eye-to-eye communication with first violin and / or conductor.
And yes, it's obvious that she enjoys playing, which is what it's all about.
Thank you Chloe and I wish you all the best! 🥰
She seems so very nice, a lovely girl. Only by looking at her on videos you come to love her. Even if you dont think at all about her musical talent.
I know the SSO is a highly skilled, very accomplished orchestra and Chloe is obviously extremely talented, and that we should support our local talents but I do hope that when the time comes when Chloe outgrows the SSO, they would release her to even greater orchestras overseas like the London Symphony Orchestra, or the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, or even the Vienna Philharmonic, if they should come calling for her. It'd truly be such a great thing for her, as well as for Singapore classical music.
No problem. :) We don't "own" Chloe so there is nothing to "release". All we are doing now is exactly what you say, support local. We hope these great orchestras around the world will take note and come calling for her, too.
As Hans Sorensen said, "where Chloe is now in her career," the appointment of her as Artist in Residence is "a "very good first step, a good beginning for her.."
This is SO true. The SSO's nurturing of Chloe is wonderful to see.
Oh she’s so cute💗
Thanks!
Thank you so much for this kind contribution! Many apologies for the late response, we somehow missed it until now. We're very grateful for your much show of support for Chloe and the orchestra all this time!
It's pure delight watching and specially listening to Chloe playing! I wish her the best!
I suppose it is due to the Guadagnini, Chloe's progress, and her mutually stimulating synergy with the SSO, but in this latest incarnation of Winter, and with it the rest of the Four Seasons and the Locatelli - soloist and orchestra alike sound absolutely fantastic and extremely uplifting.
I so look forward to the video of the concert, and to the cd!
Thank you for your support for Chloe, as always, Jack! Nothing confirmed yet, but we think it would make sense to release them in... Spring!

She's developing nicely. In several ways.

watch for a concert with Hilary Hahn and Chloe playing a double concerto and then Twoset walks on stage unannounced! it will be a riot...it would be nice for them to mix in Max as well...
Both winners are very very good, but Chloe has this natural appearance that can connect to the audience. You can relate to her, you can feel relaxed watching her.

thank you so much for this report! Chloe is truly a magnificent gift for humanity. it is so pure and natural! unfortunately all these masks are horrible; it is a humiliation of the forces of evil against humanity. I wish Chloé to find her path which is magnificent in this rotten world; fortunately a new golden age appears
Très impatient....
I'm Brazilian, I've been following Chloe for a short time, I would like to know about the violin she uses in her performances, who it was made by and what year it is.
Chloe and/or her mother have kindly posted on YT information about the violins Chloe has used in performance over the past 5+ years that supplements the information provided in this video.
1. 2017 Zhuhai competition: size 7/8, Germany unknown, probably Wolff Brothers (late 19C)
2. 2018 (Piazzolla with Kevin Loh) to September 2020:: Small full size by Vincenzo Postiglione, 1884
3. October 2020 (from Mozart #2) to March 2022: Peter Guarneri of Venice, 1729*
4. April 2022 (Four Seasons + Locatelli) to present: Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, early 1740s.
*Chloe actually said in a post that she had first used the Guadagnini for her December 2021 Piazzolla Histoire du Tango with Kevin Loh. But although I really should know better than to argue with a person I revere, it very much seems to me that the violin she uses for that performance is in fact the Guarneri.
@@jackburgess274
And that it is. It's in the description as well. She might have used the Guadagnani here and there but not in December 2021 in the official video. And they sound different. Also, the labels on them are different. And on the Guadagnani there is a distinct wear at the front-near side where the left hand moves. So, it is easy to know which is which.
3:28 - 3:44.
I have never seen Chloe display anxiety before.
A drop of trouble in a sea of beauty.
It is good to be reminded that it isn't all plain sailing, and that each jewel she gifts to us has had to be hewn from granite.
@@jackburgess274 Thanks for the reply. Now then I notice the alter ego of your JB2 (light purple), and the JB (deep pink) identity. I was not sure to which I wrote weeks ago. That entry likely was about the new establishment of a University of the Arts in Singapore.
I agree with you that Chloe's Caprice Basque is truly outstanding. This audio-only version - together with other numbers performed in Copenhagen -hopefully will be presented as Thanksgiving or Christmas gifts.
Last year's audio-only, then visual presentation, was indeed a very generous gift and pleasant surprise from Chloe and Kevin. I keep my fingers crossed. I love Kam Ning's Amazing Grace, and anticipate Chloe's rendition to be spellbound.
Last night I listened multiple times to the Meditation she performed in August. Her levels of control, technical and musical, are very assuring: that depth, warmth, with each additional listening, are deeply appreciated and treasured. Her gradual build-up of the tensions and releases, forceful and gentle, make her music making and storytelling, the projected sorrow and solace palpably felt and embraced.
I look forward to receiving the upcoming gifts and presents.
@@lbchua5733
I think you told me you had tickets for the upcoming Mozart #4.
Of course I (and no doubt others) would love to know of your experiences of the concert!
I am very curious to know whether Chloe will keep to the excellent Joachim cadenza that she performed so beautifully in Zhuhai, or whether, having since then used Levin's cadenzas in #2 and #5 to such wonderful effect, she will stick to him and use his cadenza in #4 (as Kremer does in his own #4, if you are interested to compare).
I think you said you have tickets for Bruch too. Did you notice that advance copies of the Vivaldi/Locatelli CD will be on sale at that concert?!)
@@jackburgess274 I attended the Thursday evening concert. Excellent and very memorable experience. Her ease, her confidence, humility, and naturalness, deeply moved the audiences. Victoria Concert Hall is a cosy space that comfortably contains around 600 seats. The hall was packed. Audiences of all age groups were present. One could tell and ferl that her fans all love and support Chloe warmly. A steady stream of thunderous applauses after her rendition of this concerto failed to elicit an encore.
It has been more than 5 1/2 years since her Zhuhai competition. This round, her sense of assurance, stage presence, grasp of this concerto, tone colors, dynamics, are testimonial that she has reached a new level of mastery and artistry. I was very deeply touched, especially by the second movement. Her phrasing and the 'singing and sonorous' quality, projected from her violin: lyrical, consoling... Such warmth, sincerity, an earnestness to share her musical talent. I am getting too wordy and yet, out of words😃
I have signed up for the SSO Lounge series, and hope to re-experience the video of concert soonest. Jack, wait patiently. Your turn to enjoy the concert is arriving.
She did not use the cadenza by Joachim this round. Very likely, and you may be right, it is the Levin's cadenza she is using.
I anticipated the release of her 4-Seasons set, and wanted to acquire it. Alas, not in sight yet, but I believe it will soon hit the market.
If I happen to spot Chang Tou Liang's review of this concert, I will be delighted to post the link.
Ths upcoming Bruch's concerto will be held in March at the Esplanade. Mahler's 5th is scheduled for this March concert too. Thrilled and looking forward to attending another memorable experience.
@@lbchua5733
Thank you for sharing this very interesting information.
Chloe said somewhere that she had wanted to do an encore after Mozart #5, but that Hans told her not to (because the concert was already very long). So perhaps he dissuaded her again.
Her time will come soon enough! If you don't know, she is performing Waxman's Carmen Fantasy in LA with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra at the end of this month. Perhaps she will get a chance to perform an encore there.
I feel the same way about Chloe's slow movements quite generally. There is such depth and warmth of feeling, and those by Mozart are very elevated, and in their different way as transcendent as the Lark and Massenet. What a big heart she has!
I haven't seen any indication on SSO Lounge that #4 will be made available. I eagerly await the Vivaldi/Locatelli - March 16 - but perhaps I will already have the cd by then (March 10). It is at the Bruch concert that advance copies of the cd will be available.
Chloe definitely used Levin's cadenza in the first movement. In the third movement she introduced something - a few bars I presume - that she had composed herself! (Englee Lim said this.)
Chang Tou Liang's review will no doubt be behind a paywall, but often he re-posts on his own page. Of course I would be very grateful to know what he says.
@@lbchua5733
I have seen and accessed Chang Tou Liang's review now. It is available on Bachtrack.
He remarks that the only disappointment of the evening was that there no solo encore!
