- Christina Muscari of Pretty Distressed uses Dixie Belle chalk paint and gel stain to makeover a desk. The top is done in a white washed weather oak finish. The desk is painted with Dixie Belle paint in Fluff. See below for all the products I used to achieve this look.

Love your videos! I like your detailed instructions. I have picked up a lot of tips and discovered great things to buy (like the cabinet hardware stencil, rolled sticky paint tape, etc.). Great job on desk! Love it! I would also love your input/review on Amy Howard chalk paint/wax that ACE hardware sales. This paint is easy to pick up where I live. Unfortunately, Annie Sloan paint is not easy to find around my location. Thanks for sharing your expertise and taking time to post videos.

I live in an apt. so I don't have an outside to work with. Are gel stains toxic when applying if used inside? This is exactly the look I want. Can this be done with water based stain and if so, what would you recommend? Thank you!

Hi, I’m new to this and LOVE you and your channel!! 2 questions- do you have any tips/videos for painting and distressing round table legs ( with lots of detail)? And second, I have an old desk ( was mine and now my kids ❤️) that is like to refinish. I’d like stain wood on top and paint on bottom. This piece has been painted several times. If I wanted to repaint an Ikea desk, I'm assuming chalk paint would do the trick? Recently stumbled across your channel and love your tutorials!

I didn't know you could apply a wax over a shellac.

I have been using Rust-oleum from Manards. Its much cheaper but I have not used clear wax on it yet.
I think it turned out so Beautiful! I hsve use the Annie Sloan chalk paint and really like it alot. I can get it pretty close to my home. It's nice to here about this paint also. I will check that out also. Jamie Ray Vintage has a you tube channel you may see, she also sales chalk paint also. Plus her stuff is so cute check her out. Like your style very much. Curious if your top is in good shape, would you consider skipping the sanding and just apply the gel stain straight on the top? Your thoughts?
Would you do anything additional to the piece if it isn’t real wood? Like a cheap composite material dresser? Like prime it first? Thanks!
You could prime with Zinnsser Bullseye 123 or you should be able to give it a rough scuff with some sandpaper. Then just test a small spot to see if it sticks.
I really like that color of paint fluff I think that color would look good painting my hutch in my living room. So this is a paint not a chalk paint
using the wax appears to be labor intense...did you sand the shellac before applying the wax? :-)
