I just picked up my baby this past weekend! I found a huge and v healthy one at Lowe’s for $35 (I may or may have not yoinked him from their stocking cart before he fell victim to over watering ^^’’). I named him Charles and he’s been thriving since bringing him home 😍 he lives in a corner of my living room where he get lots of sunlight~ and he’s already pushing out new leaves at such a fast rate! I haven’t had any yellowing leaves (I read online that they tend to have this due to nutrients being sucked out to support the new growth), but I reckon it might be due to me living in Hawaii where the humidity is usually p high 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for the tips 💚 a local seller gave me a corm for free when I bought a melanochrysum. I've had alocasia Polly before and thought it was so difficult and avoided them. But my regal shield just unfurled it's first leaf and I'm obsessed with him 💚 I can't believe he rooted and sprouted in my apartment in a month and I'm determined to have more luck than what I had with the Polly's lol
I also use cactus palm citrus from Home Depot! I amend it as needed like adding pumice and sand for succulents, or bark and Leca for plants that like chunky soils! I also use Planta! Great video💚🌱 I’m gonna try to grow it in lower humidity because I hate humidifiers 😬

I got one last August. It's just a baby but it's growing fast. It has put out 3 new leaves and is now about 16 inches tall. I have it in an indoor green house.
Thanks so much for this video! My regal shield bloomed this week and it completely caught me by surprise! When I eventually upsize its pot, I'm definitely going to grab some cactus/palm soil like yours. A watering app sounds like a good idea, too. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of all these plants, man. 😅
Congrats on the new channel. I noticed my regal shield started blooming 2 weeks ago but they died off because I was out of town. I love alocasias too. My regal shield is smaller and as it gets bigger, I plan to transition it to an aroid mix because it helps prevent root rot.

@@MYFIDDLELEAF Do they pup a lot? How many corms do they make. I have a Sumo Alocasia, though it doesn't give corms, it does pup and they grow to about 5 feet.
My alocasia regal shield puts out leaves very quickly but for some reason it has dropped two healthy vibrant green leaves. The steams went soft and then shriveled and flopped completely over. I just had a new leaf unfurl and now it's like my baby will only hold on to four leaves now.... HELP.....I repotted her because her roots had overgrown the pot but she's still only keeping four leaves and I'm loosing healthy leaves. She is a big girl but idk what else to try. No pest...no root rot....she has her own grow light so I'm lost
@@MYFIDDLELEAF yes I fertilize her ....I repotted her in March and her roots had such vigorous massive growth I had to repot her again in May....she has a very healthy root system....no mushy roots...no dark roots...no smells...no leaf discoloration on any of the leaves not even brown tips....when the other leaves flopped over their leaves were still a beautiful deep green and no discolorations anywhere....this is stumping me...not even any pest issues thank goodness
Mine each time a new leaf borns an old One dies, so I never have more than five leaves. The Roots are good leafs are big but ONLY 4 or 5 . What an I doing wrong? Can u help me?

Yes I recently moved her back outside. Yes I turned off my humidifier about 1 months ago

My Regal Had 5 leaves and 6 blooms. I kept loing leaves. I cut the blooms after that. Now I have 1 new leaf, ugh.
Yes I just cut my blooms for the second time . They take energy away from the plant growing more leaves !!
