As you know, I own one of these aswell. And I absolutely love it! Done 13 000km on it and I must comment on your 5 list.
Yep, the dash...even at brightest setting it's just not bright enough. But at the same time, it's very rare that I can't read it.
Corrosion? Nope, no problems on mine.
Seat? It's one of the best without looking like a sofa. But I do have to stop for various reasons anyway every hour or so. (lower the pegs!)
Traction control? Works fine on mine. Just lucky or are you unlucky?
Rear light...I think it looks so good!
    Things I do not like:
    Yellow spring...yak! (painted it!)
Front mudguard...yak! (changed it for one in aluminium)
Front headlight...it's just not good enough at the edges, 20 past to 40 past, riding in nighttime. Except 30 past-ish. So there are dark patches going in the curves and that's not good at all!
Otherwise I love the bike! Thank you Dan!

What annoys me most on my CB650R is the button layout on the left handle. I don't like that rocker switch for the lights, I often flash the high beams when I want to switch from high to low beam. Honda should have put the flash where the HSTC switch is.
And the switch for the horn is hard to reach quickly.
Other than that I'm very happy with the bike.

Looking at getting my first bike really soon. Getting an a2 license, so it's between a ~5-6k euro 2018-2021 cb500f (or similar), or a 2020 cb650f for about 9k after the cost of the a2 kit. Since it's my first bike ever, I'm a bit scared of getting something more expensive since it will probably end up in the ground, but at the same time, it's only 30% more expensive than a normal a2 bike where I live.

Not about bikes (please don't shoot me, I am a biker) but I have owned 3 Honda cars over the years. The first was a Civic, beautifully built in Japan as Car magazine used to say, but I just couldn't find a comfortable seating position so it had to go. Next was a 2 litre petrol auto CRV, which I think was also made in Japan. That was a great car but very thirsty on long autoroute trips through France and with a small fuel tank. Traded that for one of the new shape diesel CRVs when they came out. This one was built in Swindon I believe. Within a couple of months most of the hose clips under the bonnet were going rusty. At the first 12 month service the rear discs had to be skimmed because they were so rusty - and as I later discovered this was because the rear brakes were never actually coming on, so the pads never scrubbed the discs. The final straw was a complete flattening of the battery in 2 1/2 weeks when the car was left in a long term airport car park and I was overseas for work. Later, I measured the "standing current" drain from the battery and sure enough it would flatten it in that time. Not impressed Mr Honda.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  4 роки тому

Expensive in some places but not all. In the UK this bike is such good value. In other countries it makes less sense. IL4 engines are just different to twins. I find running out of revs on some middleweight twins annoying, so prefer higher reving engines such as IL4's. There's still plenty to love about this bike though, which will be shown in another video.

Good post. I agree the dash gets lost very easily, I don't like the way it's set out with the rev counter either. The traction control seemed to do nothing when I tried one on all settings. The seat is typical Honda, They need to get on top of that. It's almost like they make them uncomfortable on purpose. Like you say - it's still a good bike. 👍🍻🏍️

    1. Dash - I don't know why, but I love this dash over MT 07
I set it only 4/5 brightness, and it's been working great here (Bangkok Thailand) where it is always Sunny hot
    2. Traction control - I always have it off anyway. I only turn it on when riding on wet road / rain
I used to ride a Harley, so I'm used to riding without any traction control
    3. Corrosion - don't see any for me. only factory fault found on mine was the front right fork leaking oil, inspected at 1,000 km service
The dealership made the claim and changed me a new one within a week
I heard MT 07 had more corrosion problem. Never heard of that on any CB / CBR 650 R here
    4. Seat - yes, stock seat not comfortable for long ride. I had a local shop installed gels on both the rider and pillion stock seat
about US $ 90 total, and it makes a BIG different.
    5. Tail brake lights - I don't really care 😗
I have annoying problem shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, often hitting in Neutral
2nd to 1st gear shift many times I have to kick down hard or it only crank down to Neutral
sometimes i keep finding fault Neutral between any gears 3 to 5th when using Quick shifter
Can't wait to see new generation of MT 07. If they improve the suspension, I might consider trading in after 4-5 years

I was already read-up and warned about the dim dash display, but after bumping up the brightness to maximum, even the Sydney midday sun didn't kill it. I've never seen a TFT display so maybe that would spoil me for it somewhat. And yes, the mild steel hose clamps are already starting to tarnish after just 6 months, easy enough to swap out for stainless if they get much worse I guess. My only pet peeve on the bike is the way the traction control randomly switches off and stays off (love to hear from others having the same issue). I'm inclined to think that my LH glove is catching the lever when the clutch is pulled and have even toyed with the idea of taking to it with a Dremel to shorten the plastic activator switch a few millimetres. Hmmmm... other than that, Can't fault this bike. A pleasure to own and ride.

Surprising they don't standardise on stainless fasteners for all exposed fittings knowing how much the price of stainless has dropped in recent years. The effect on the overall sale price of the bike would absolutely minimal and would instantly dispel any bad reviews for premature corrosion. I often buy stainless fasteners in my work for machine building, when buying in bulk, they basically cost the same as plated mild steel. It's only retail buyers that have to pay a premium for 304/316, not OEM producers like Honda.

OK, so cb650r for ¥979,000 or rebel 1100 for ¥1,100,000? I'm 5'11, 235lb, live in metro Japan(so 30km~60km speed limits unless you get on a toll road, then you're up to maybe 120km), lane filtering at stoplights are legal so bike width is a factor, most rides will be around 30 minutes, maybe up to an hour, and then occasionally up to 2 hours, and maybe once a quarter for all day rides. My previous bike was a ktm Duke 390. I've trained on a Harley 650, I've test ridden a Diavel(loved it, can't afford it) and I've ridden another small cruiser and naked.
