What most people don’t realize is that it can become an addiction. I’ve struggled with emotional and physical self harm when it feels out of control and the gaps are too close together and big.
I would take my PTSD and anxiety out on my wrists and thighs or by watching or seeing things that I know I shouldn’t. Specifically remembering bad memories.
It, like any addiction, requires intervention and finally Blue, my oldest friend, my caretaker in my head, the one that keeps us safe, told me that I had to stop.
“You feel out of control but you must remember we are here too and I get it, you hurt, but we have to live in this body too. You don’t get more choice than I do because I’m here too.”

Despite it being the reason I self harmed in the first place, I will forever be grateful for my overthinking brain immediately going off whenever the suicidal thoughts came.
So many "what ifs" and fears yelling all at once helped keep it to only thoughts and never actual attempts.
Man that menton of scratching and biting broke me. Those were two of the several methods I used to hurt myself.
I've gotten a lot better, but it still hurts to remember.
