On this day, 50 years ago, four young Swedes burst onto the music scene. Without them, pop music would not be the same, leaving a legacy that is difficult to match. Their names are Agnetha, Benny, Björn and Anni-Frid., in other words: ABBA.
Yes. We know.
Happy 50;th ABBA
The winner takes it all.ABBA no.1 also in 2024.
They were an amazing win in 1974. They moved Eurovision away from la la songs to exciting pop. That was when Eurovision was a good show.
Beethoven hasn't aged! Neither has Abba. Both are musical geniuses!
Dear Lizzy, Soon Lizzo will be there.
Best band ever
I didn't know GBnews were a historic music channel
Getting there Michael.
Today I'm an Abba Fan for 50 years.
Yes sir, Simon.
What would life have been like without ABBA! Happy 50th! 🎉 Go to ABBA Voyage concert as soon as you can! I remember vividly watching the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest as a 6 year old and watching ABBA performing “Waterloo”, and being mesmerised. I’ve been a fan ever since, even being bullied for it, especially when entering secondary school in 1978. ABBA have a combined wealth of nearly £1.5billion. Oddly enough, 6 April 1974 to 6 April 2024 is 1,577,912,463 seconds. So ABBA have earned £1 per second over the last 50 years! Thank you Anni-Frid, Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha.
Totally agree with you!!! Hope some day can go🙏. I'm an ABBA fan too! ❤. Greetings from México 🇲🇽
guys great in all senses!!! omg never heard such a positive review of what Abba has done, and really, they have done!!!!
4 Icons ❤❤❤❤
Remember watching it at the time brilliant song and routine, what a lovely genuine lady Cheryl seems.
One of the best groups ever.
One of the worst groups ever.
@@Mogamishu Well, miserable people don't like happy music.
Yes.
God bless our beautiful people. ❤❤❤
Amen to that… 🙏
They are still the best
Never wrote a bad song....
Great band & seem to be decent people not divas.
I was 4 days old 🤣🤣
Remember and love
ABBA is timeless and will remain so!! Generations to come will still hum their songs!! My 11 year old daughter who doesn't care much for older music, loves ABBA. That's the hook their songs have even on the current generation.
ABBA-super группа на все времена!❤
We USED to love the Eurovision song contest. Not any more!
Because you dont keep up with modern music?
@@Momo-rv6en Music? 😂
@@middleman9183 Ok what is in the charts right now is not music, but back in your days everything was better!
@@Momo-rv6en It was certainly more authentic........👍
@@middleman9183 There are enough authentic artists right now, across many genres of music. Too bad some people are not open to any new music when they turn a certain age.
Eurovision has become a Freak show now
Yes
Links and data, please, Iman.
And we are all upset that the members choosed NOT to show up & wave to the fans on their Celebration party :-(
I don't know if anyone knows the actual story where after ABBA winning, in Europe and England all the radio stations didn't want to know them until little Australia took them and made them hits and from that ABBA had gratitude to us where the rest of the word ignored them and then radio stood up and took notice.
UK stations yes, they had dismissed them as Eurovision one hit wonders. But rest of Europe ,S.Africa and esp.Germany the radio dj's loved them.Apart from 'So Long' their singles I Do,I do /Honey Honey (that was a huge hit in Germany, also with the 'Waterloo' album) did it fine.Australia was a turning point and not only Abba but also us fans feel so happy for your giving them a chance that exploded like a domino all over and esp.UK the centre of pop culture. Benny sent a thankful video to Molly Meldrum and when Molly saw this he got moved and nearly went wet eyed in front of the camera.
Cheryl Baker! Making your mind up. I'll choose Abba.
They love surprises and they have the ESC to thank for their breakthrough and 50 years later they are still very successful, I think there will be a short surprise visit even if Benny is against it. Or there will be a video link or a small player. We have to wait and see, otherwise it wouldn't be an overview. However, the prices at the ESC evening event are obscene and ABBA Voyage in London is anything but cheap.
You must take your mother! What does this mean?
Typical brits, they start off sbout ABBA and turn it into a Bucks Fizz story.
Racist comment
@@Ukfairgrounds just the truth.
Better than the overrated Beatles.
Dear Doris Day, Data and links, please?
Yeah!! Now Eurovision is not worth watching it’s crap
Both of them struggling to even read the autocue ,.,.,
Who are these awful presenters? She looks bored and looks as though she would rather be doing her nails and he is so wooden! 😮 Totally unprofessional!
Cheryl Baker what a legend 😊
They won't be at eurovision this year, they think they're too grand for that
Yes, it's great hearing the same three chords over and over again...
You’ve just described every song that has EVER been written… 🤷♂️🤦♂️🤭
@@daviddavensac4137 Not every, just most. There are much more inventive groups out there.
But thisi is Eurovision ------- GB news viewers voted brexit & hate all things Europe (and UK as well)
Wanting to be freed from the shackles of the EU (and thank God we are!) doesn’t mean we don’t love Eurovision?!!
@@daviddavensac4137 Yes, yes - free of EU --iits all going so well isn't it (so well that the overwhelming majority of brits regret it and would vote to stay in run again)
@@bbbf09 Good things come to those who wait - I don’t need millennial instant gratification - happy to play the long game. I’d still vote Brexit again.
@@daviddavensac4137 Then you are the fool's fool. if you are genuinely taking seriously the 'long game' then you need to wise up and stop thinking in years and think decades. The 2016 brexit vote leave was heavily built on pack of lies (£350m for NHS a week - ) mostly eaten up by gullible oldies (and I'm pension age - but not in the gullible camp). Yet I saw the leave vote winning well beforehand when most predicted remain would win. But in my same crystal ball - more often right than wrong - looking at 10 to 20 years ahead - all you have is gen Z, millens and gen *next* growing up and seeing EU getting richer, with more prospsects and freedoms - and getting more angry about it. In another 10 years time when all the 2016 oldies and gullible leavers have mostly shuffled off mortal coil there wil be growing clamour to re-join. And in less than 20 years from now we'll be back in - with secure locks put in on us staying in. But in a weakened , humiliated and much poorer position than when we left. I didnt want that . But It's you 2016 leavers with your ego, and your arrogance and your unicorn fantasy politics that will see the UK return as a subservient lackey to the EU - when we could have remained as a strong, respected leading voice in the. THAT is your only real long term legacy to the future UK generations in terms of our relationship with Europe. To turn us intop it's eunuch. That and we'll be forced to ditch the £ having to accept the Euro - again something which I never wanted and we certainly don't need. But we'll be getting it. I only hope that traitor Farage lives long to see it. (and if you don't think Farage as a traitor then you don't know any fisherman or farmers). Hope you see it it too so you know what you did.
@@daviddavensac4137 Foolish notion. You thinking not long but only short to mid term - years not decades. All you have achieved in the long run is that an angry pro EU generation will at some point take us back into EU in a weakened and impoverished state . Maybe in ten years - possibly 20 but likely within 30 years. Unfortunately we will no longer a strong leader in Europe but a more of vassal state - likely to be forced to ditch the £ and accept the Euro. Not something I ever wished to see - but that will be the likely ultmate outcome of you and Farage legacy. I hope you and him both live to witness it.
Cringe content 🇸🇪🇬🇧
Blokes don’t look much different but the women sure hit that wall 😂
How pathetic to call out people for ageing in their late 70's.
What did you expect two 74 and 78 year old women to look the same as in their 20s 😂
Stupid comment !
I watch that Eurovision. I remember one of the men saying if we want to win we have to sing it in English. I think that's why most of them sing in English now.
