  • Joe's in Scotland where he travels from Pitlochry to Inverness with a van full of parcels to see why courier companies like DPD charge steep surcharges for deliveries to the area. Is it really as 'offshore' as they claim?

I had a lot of weird shipping problems in Scotland, even when I lived in Edinburgh. I needed some art prints delivered once before an event and paid extra to get them delivered on time. When they didn't show, I called the London-based company and they said "we didn't realize you were in Scotland." As if I hadn't included my delivery addressress and was in Narnia, not in a country literally attached to England.

@mcchickenz I can confirm this is correct. I had something shipped from Perth to sydney and it was regular mail. I got it 2 days later no increase in price due to dangerous conditions ( crossing the nullabor - a massive freaken desert!)

The way people in the UK view travel distance has always been interesting to me as someone who lives in the Midwestern United States. My doctor lives in a different state than me and is a 3.5 hour drive both ways. I see him every other month and it’s doesn’t bother me a bit because he’s the right doctor for me. But I’ve read stories about people in the UK rarely being able to see their family because they live more than an hour away… I think Americans just have an insane love of driving that isn’t as universal as a lot of us think.

@@nicksurfs1 The anecdotal here is strong.
We also pay 3 to 4x the amount for fuel over here, that can change your driving habbits.
You also have to think we are more densely populated by sq/m, you have nice straight open roads, get on the lane and switch off and just cruise. Here roads are windy as fuck, always full of traffic and generally kind of rage inducing.
Honestly, i have plenty of family members i dont even want to come visit me, let alone me wasting my own time to go and visit them.

I live in Banffshire, on the northern coast of Scotland. I have suffered the "Off shore" excuse many times. While yes, if I walked 10 minutes north I would fall into the sea, if I walk east, west or south it would take weeks, even months to fall into the sea. From overnight delivery from a well-known supermarket, it eventually took 34 days to deliver the phone. I was promised compensation by the service provider and it was never backed up.

I would love to see him take on blizzard mainly because they keep saying hey this game is exactly how we made the last one the remake is exactly same as the original then you look at it I'm like well when this guy summons in his enemies I don't have to have a seizure warning in the original in the new one I'm going to have to have a seizure warning anytime I bother playing or streaming it or anything hell it'd be great if the game itself decided to State yes seizure warning as you start the game mainly because I get this loading screen option that pops up whenever my friend summon something in or I just get this random flashing thing across the screen the entire screen just flashes a few times and you're like I'm I'm getting blinded I already have to deal with a little bit of a seizure warning every now and then now I don't want to have to deal with it as bad it gives me headaches and stomach issues so I kind of want it to stop they keep saying we made fixes to the game so this stuff wouldn't be in it anymore but it still is

Fancy tackling the bullshit about surcharges to Northern Ireland, not only from Mainland UK, but also from the Republic of Ireland FFS! What's the point of the NI Protocol?

  • @1HoV

You might be blaming DPD for a lot of this, but business rates are lower and businesses know they can get away with a delivery surcharge at certain postcodes. Sometimes, it might not be DPD's fault.
