i've done my best to make the four SALUTING DAD'S ARMY episodes into one file..almost 3 hours..enjoy - Розваги
As an American (Texan, to be specific) and history buff, I absolutely LOVE Dad's Army -- thank you for posting this.
I had never heard of "Rear Guard" -- the American attempt to rip off "Dad's Army" -- but it seems in typical Hollywood fashion they take someone else's brilliant idea, execute it very poorly, then blame the audience when it doesn't work.
As kids we loved to watch every episode. Now being a few years older, I still love to watch the series. Thank you for this salute.
✨ Dad's Army- Pitch Perfect! ✨ Timeless! ✨
Took me decades to realise that Arthur Lowe & John Le Mesurier were probably one of Britain's first great double acts..
First discovered this show in 2002 by my Grandfather and love ever see it.
Brilliant, I remember watching this with my Mather as a wee lad, great memories..as he sighs nostalgically! We loved the quality British comedy in Australia.
Nothing can match the British humor and actors.
My highest regards from Holland.

One of the best English comedys ever written!🌺🌺..G-d bless u all,for so many years of great British Comedy!..I watch over and over!💕💕
Glad you enjoyed it
The thing that's made the show work for me was the captain mannering was a good man. In tight situations he was Brave and he never gave up hope. And he was loyal. And it was also a fussbudget who sometime claim credit for things he didn't do. And he was very class and Status sensitive. It was just a perfect combination.
Over the course of watching the series that came to trust that he and the troupe would suffer but persevere and somehow come out as best as anyone could expect in a situation.
For me one of the greatest comedy series of all time.
Absolutely
My sons, and their grandfather all adore Dad's Army.
It is absolutely timeless and pure, and everyone can relate to their charm.
I hope you all enjoy it
Aniseed balls and a corner of the playground, hilarious!! Oh, the memories this show brings back. Me and mum never missed it, got the dogs taken care of, made our cups of tea and settled in. I would sometimes end up calling out of my chair laughing so hard. Thank you, thank you.🇬🇧🇬🇧😘💕.
Feel free to subscribe.i will have more dads army to share very soon..thanks for the comment
Fantastic document this vid !! I was a child back then in The Netherlands where Dad's army was broadcasted as well.
I learned to feel british humour
as if it was my own.
I imitated all personalities just for fun and learned English very well
by doing so. It all became my own imagination.
After all those years , seeing Dad's Army again , I came home in a way that it actualized my memories .....🌷❤
Timeless.
Daar komen de schutters!
Rather odd title if you're looking back on it as an adult. It doesn't make as much sense as the original.
Shows like these, in a way, wére Dutch humor. Many British shows were broadcast here in that time. Allo Allo, Blackadder, Are You Being Served, You Rang M'lord, It Aint Half Hot, Mum.
Even some quintessential 'Dutch' shows were flown in from the UK. "Toen was geluk heel gewoon" and "SamSam" had entire seasons using the same scripts as their UK counterparts. (On the Buses and Man about the House)
Thank you very much, it was SO popular here in Holland in the 70's. I will never forget. Thank you!!!
Love Dad's army .......still watch it now....
I try to watch it every day like im obsessed.truth
Thank you for this recap.
This series not only touched the British people there are countries all over the world where their citizens took part in the World Wars 1 and 2.
I saw and loved this series quite a few years ago but despite my families attempts to get the records of my grandfather's service in WW1 and my father's service in WW2 we were told that we could not get them until the generation of that time had passed away. Until then all official documents were considered secret. Our family only managed to get these documents two years ago 79 years after my grandfather passed away in 1941 and my father had passed away in 2005.
This time watching the character of lance corporal Jack Jones who is my favourite character explaining his part in the Boer War and 1st world war in the Egyptian campaigns it was as though I was listening to my grandfather who I have never had the pleasure to know.
Being South African my grandfather was in the Royal Mounted Infantry in the 2nd Boer War at the tender age of 17. He joined the army at the beginning of WW1 where he was in several campaigns. Firstly he was in German West Africa where he helped to disarm and stop the German communication center. Then he went to Egypt under a British Commander. Then he went to Britain to get trained in trench warfare. After this he was sent to the Somme where he managed to survive the terrible 6 day Battle of Delville Woods. After this suffering from P.T.S.D. and damage to his lungs from Mustard gas his commander sent him back home to be trained as a driver to take up a position which was supposed to be non combative in German East Africa as a driver. From descriptions of the engagements he was involved in there was no such thing as a non combative role. To top it all while there he contracted reoccurring malaria. When he came back home he was a shadow of the man he was before the war and because of the flashbacks he had because of the P.T.S.D. his marriage failed and he lost his wife and children. My grandmother was in the W.A.A.F. and she had seen many cases such as his and knew how to deal with it. She married him, became his second wife and looked after him because he was unable to work until the beginning of WW2. Although he was actually struggling physically because of the damage done to his body and mind in WW1 he determinedly went to sign up for the equivalent of the British Home Guard in Cape Town South Africa. He may have had sergeant stripes but unfortunately he did not last long. In June 1941 his body gave up the fight and he passed away. His grave and other sevicemens graves are in the cemetery but are marked and cared for by the British Monuments Council. My mother was only 10 years old at the time.
Although the character of Jack Jones may seem funny and ridiculous the story he was telling was true. And after researching what the allied forces went through in that war it took me months to recover emotionally from learning about the cruelty and gravity of what happened to not only the soldiers but also the citizens who were indigenous people in the war zones and sadly the approximately 8 million animals who also perished serving in the war effort.
My father was in the WW2 as an air craftsman fixing and assembling allied planes. When he told us about his work there a special aura took over the room as his face glowed.
Even so long after the war knowing more about it Dads Army means even more to me than it did before especially because I have seen documentaries on all the fairly sophisticated plans and measures which the British War Office put in place to protect the British Archipelago. I am glad I did otherwise the significance of the balloons set up to deter low flying bombers would have been lost to me.
They like my parents may no longer be alive but the actors from Dad's Army were and are still wonderful to watch. The strangest thing is that even though WW2 ended 17 years before I was born because of the stories I listened to on my father's knee this series has an air of nostalgia not lost to me.
Even as an American, this is the best comedy ever to be made yet.
I'm so happy and grateful I found this. Loved it❤️ great respectful tribute to the evergreen comedy.
Alexander Armstrong presents this documentary series looking at the genius and the lasting impact of this classic British comedy. He pays tribute to the people who created it and learns of the true stories that inspired it. - imdb
First time I've seen this. I really enjoyed it. I'm a fan of Dads Army seen them all 15 or so times and still enjoy watching it.

You are welcome
Thank you for posting this beautiful and very informative tribute to Dad's Army.
love theses my daughter and son watch dads army all the time first found the videos in the early 90s thank you so much
My most favourite episode was one I heard on the radio so I'm not sure if it was ever filmed: "Keep Young and Beautiful" - some priceless lines by Frazer when asked "How long does the makeup last?" said "I've never dug anyone up to find out!" - brilliant! Thanks again for keeping Dad's Army Alive!
I loved your comment.i think that is an actual episode..don't quote me tho..enjoy
In my opinion, the best British Comedy series - a smidgen above only fools and horses (and I loved OFAH)
Fantastic
I know this is much later 2021, but just stumbled across your channel and Dad's Army. I being from the USA had not seen or heard of it. I do adore British Comedy it has so much more wit than what I see here in the states. So I am really looking forward to watching this thank you so much.
I can't believe it no dislikes, and please don't, best series ever, some who actually served ww2
I used to watch dad's army In the 70's with my family when I was a boy, Still my favourite comedy of all time. In New Zealand.

Great ..i mean..greatest series ever
Thanks for watching 😀
Best show ever ⚡️
I love this show....soooooo classic.
What a wonderful documentary.
Yes it is
Fascinating docu and heartwarming too...I remember ''Granddad'' as being on Top Of the Pops with Clive Dunn...remembering our own ''granddads'' who fought how ever they did in WWII, and I think that's one of the reasons the song was so loved, because we grand children knew and loved...
While it’s still one of my favorite shows of all time it seemed like something was just missing in every episode past season 5, Jimmy Beck left such a large whole
Pro tip : watch movies at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Azariah Amari Definitely, have been using Flixzone for years myself :)
@Azariah Amari yea, I've been using flixzone for months myself :D
Arnold Wridley wrote the famous play and later movie : The Ghost Train.
Very true
An American attempt reminds me of what John Cleese said about an American Fawlty Towers. He wasn't consulted at áll, and asked if they were going to make many changes. "Just one, we're going to take Basil Fawly out".
The "Don't tell him Pike" scene shifts the comedy more towards 'Pike' being scared of the German coming towards him, rather than his name being revealed.
I don't know if that's down to British vs US humor, but at the very least it's an effect of not having written the joke, and not qúite understanding it either.
Thank you much for this. Very much appreciated.
You're very welcome
I have a feeling Jimmy Perry wrote Jones as a silly old fool always losing his trousers and cocking everything up, but David Croft wrote him as a more believable old duffer.
You made my day with this upload.
Good stuff
I have the full dvd set...but this is super!
Don't tell him Pike and Uncle sergeant the honourable Arthur, my two favourite lines from the series. But to be honest, there's probably hundreds more that are just a tiny bit lower down.
Great comedy. The first episode aired on the day I was born .
welcome to all my new subscibers.i know you all love this upload
The episodes where Jones is not a gormless clown were significantly better.
Can you imagine anyone else playing any of the roles, especially Mainwaring and Wilson
I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for bringing this on YT.

Thank you so much. A great editing job, very impressive.

what a pleasure to watch this! Thank you so much!

Lee Enfield , best rifle ever... still used today.....
They didn't use the Short Magazine Lee Enfield. The Home Guard used the M1917 "American Enfield".
holy shit its the man from the ww2 pilot videos ... am in usa love yours videos i can get most are blocked random
DAMN IT!!!! ASPECT RATIO!!!! ONE CAN'T SIT THROUGH NEARLY 3 HOURS OF IT.
sadly the last remaining cast member has passed away Pike
Very sad indeed
loool! i kept wondering if they included the "Don't tell him Pike!" scene or not. i kept waiting for it to appear.
A great holiday treat! Thank you so much for posting.
You're welcome
I love this show-but none of my American friends are even aware of it!
Always a timeless classic.

It's the Vicars office!
Was there one episode when Bill Pertwee stayed dry? This week Russia invaded Ukraine. Watching this series reminded me we've got through before and we can do it again if we must. It's settled me down and helped me through a very upsetting week. I should tell anyone interested that you can't get Dad's Army on DVD anymore. Discontinued line they said in Sanity .
Fantastic thank you

I'm over the ditch in nz.enjoy the videos .
Please check out my other videos. Its all good
In various documentaries I've heard his colleagues -- actors, production crew, executives -- call David Croft a "genius". Never Jimmy Perry. Obviously the balance of contributions to their great successes weighs heavily in favour of Croft, though Perry was much more keen on the limelight.
In your opinion.
I'm glad they didn't keep the title ' The Fighting Tigers' that sounds American.
Fighting shadows more like it ..scary ones
Did I miss it? Was there even a mention of Captain Square?
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
It would never have worked in the US because they didn’t have the actors-it was the British actors that made it what it was!
Well said..and im not even British ..but us kiwis know what's good..and
What's rubbish..great stuff .great comedy. Great acting. God save the queen 🃏🧸
Yes I love Dad's army. I love whenever they are actually very historically accurate and bring out P17 rifles for the home guard
They don't like the cold steel up in em! They don't like it at all!
I'm glad you liked it 11bangbang
Please share this with your friends,my channnel is great if you'' DON'T PANIC''!!
I seem to remember one episode where Jones seems to manage finally to drill correctly instead of half a second behind, but then it turned out to be after the whole plattoon organised to take this extra time, just like Jones always does, to make them look orderly. anyone knows which episode this is?
It's S1E5, 'The Showing Up of Corporal Jones'
I love dads army my mother came from Germany dad was kiwi I was born in new zealand

Which episode is that in 11:06?
Can anyone explain to me why US Americans always want to "Americanize" non-American movies and TV series....even the english speaking ones....when the original is almost always superior?
Another trait is a remake of a classic. Flight of the Phoenix is excruciating the second time, yet Britain has also had a go at replicating Dads Army. Sheeeer Rrrubish! and Dooooomed from the Start!
The age of the veterans is all wrong in this show . In the show they are all aged about 80. so born 1860
but in fact most WW1 veterans were aged into their 40s in 1940
Roger
Hate how the yanks think they can just take a uk show set it in the states, and re-record it with American actors and change the shows title. I can’t think of an instance of the opposite happening. Just watch the original.
The Americans also did it with 'Til Death Us Do Part which they called All In The Family and Man About The House which they called Three's Company.
DADS ARMY every episode by george .hes a great guy ua-cam.com/play/PLHebeiMZJOhBUdGWgj3XGfDkke-lLhkBW.html DADS ARMY
One thing that the Americans don’t seem to understand is you have to base comedies on real life experience. You can’t just take a British comedy like dad’s army which is based on mannerisms and a deep understanding of the culture and repurpose it for an American audience.
The yanks try to give it all the Cadillac touch..it never works..even if you are from texas...bigger is never better..real emotion always wins
but Yanks loved Monty Python!!
...and after this there was 'Allo 'Allo ??
Ain't half hot mum...I think
I think Clive Dunn was the most border line character. He just prattled on and on, usually very funny but at times it was just babbling on and on, like a silly old fool.
But we love him anyway
@@swimasfastasyoucan Yes we did.
Is it the same % of Christian producers, writer and actors in BBC as of that in Hollywood?!!! What a Surprise!
The reality is they didn't know the Americans would come in to save the day.
Eventualllllly
@@swimasfastasyoucan Nevertheless, they showed up and wiped out Hitler and The Emperor in short order.
good point
That computer rendition of the theme is bloody awful. Just use the original.
Not my doing..ask your mummy for a cookie and some milk to make feel better
Haha, I shouldn’t be so negative. Thank you for uploading, it’s really interesting and insightful the documentary that is. I’m binge watching dads army at the mo under lockdown in China. It’s very comforting, perhaps even like a nice cup of cocoa from Mummy. Cheers mate, I didn’t mean any disrespect on your part!
Armstrong is here quite irritating as interviewer, i think.
