It certainly was! :) It's something that I could have edited out, but I think tripping over the words helped get the full extent of my weariness over. Thanks for watching :)
Excellent Simon, well done. I'm 'running' the wall this Saturday, and this video has been a great resource in helping to mentally prepare me for the task at hand - thank you!
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you've found it useful :) Good luck on Saturday. I found from Hexham to Newburn to be the hardest part, it seems particularly long, so be prepared . I'll be out on the route somewhere between Hagg Bank Bridge and Newburn, so if you see me give me a shout :)
Thanks for watching, Matthew. One of the things that I still remember clearly is the air of excitement at the start contrasted with the exhaustion and relief at the finish - it was quite an experience :)
Thanks Mark, the section between Hexham and Newburn was probably the hardest bit, I was running on willpower alone - but the elation at crossing the finish line is beyond explanation :)
Thank you, Steve. It made a huge difference running with Ben, and of course, seeing you and Lou at the pit stops. I hope the video gives you a good flavour of the bits that you didn't see?
Thanks David, it was tough - and I have to admit that getting video done was another ultra marathon; my editing software just wouldn't export it properly.
Thank you 🙂 I'm sure I'm not the only one who will probably never do something like that again, but is immensely proud of having achieved it. Well done for getting through it yourself - I know your pain and fortitude.
Hi Trojen, good for you. I'm giving it a miss this year, concentrating on the track season this summer. But I will be out on the course somewhere between Hagg Bank Bridge and Newburn - possibly even into the Quayside, giving support to everyone I see. What number are you and I'll look out for you?
Well done Simon & Ben on getting to that bridge, it's amazing how getting to the section across the water with the bridge in sight & somehow the body is able to run again 👍 It brought back memories watching that 👍🏃
@@NERunner it must have been about 2012 or 2013, it seems ages ago now, it was good to see your footage. My memory was there was too much road and not enough trail but the medal was a nice chunky bit of bling 👌
Yes, there's not a huge amount of the wall left for there to be a trail. Much of it was demolished in the mid 18th century to build the Military Road. The main section of trail in this run was between Walltown Quarry and The Sill, which is only 7 miles. There was a lot off road on this course, but it was still on tarmac paths etc. I have run most of the route on the actual Hadrian's Way footpath, which is a lot of trail and it's rough going.
Doing it in a couple of weeks - good to see some of the course. Feeling more hopefully after a 58k run a few days ago and it looks like doing UTS has been a good decision 😂
Fantastic! You're a better man than I. My limit is 50miles - psychologically and perhaps even physically I can do no more. Top man, hat tip to you sir 🎩
Thanks, it was definitely mind over body. The last 7 miles in the dark were hard, it's a route I've run many times so wasn't too bad. It's that part the most people drop out of that ultra. I just wanted it to be over!
Incredible stuff Simon! You are a true inspiration mate! You have showed us all how it's really done! Amazing job mate! You and Ben certainly were the dream team. I bet it was a great to have each other for company. Well done once again mate truly epic stuff! 😎🤘🏻
Thank you, Ben. The video was an epic too :D It certainly helped having Ben to run with and I think even ef you turn up to an event like that on your own, you won't be alone for long. There's a huge amount of cameraderie amongst the runners :)
Thank you for taking the time to watch this all the way from Vietnam, and comment on how beautiful the scenery is in Northumberland :) I also wish you happiness and good health.
Excellent effort!! Not sure if you remember me and my friend Craig but you were at Newburn running along the river with us for a abit vlogging with your Go Pro Media Mod! I’ve dropped my 2022 vLog just now! Check it out if you fancy revisiting some of those early-course memories 😉 Also, you promised us Gateshead was in-fact 7 miles away from the last checkpoint, NOT 9, not sure I believe you!! 🤣🤣 All the best 🌟
I remember feeling the same when I did it last year - the run from Newburn to the Quaside seems never-ending. But, it's a route I do often in my training so I thought it was going to be easy... How wrong I was :D I'll take a look at your vlog.
@@NERunner haha! I don’t know what it is.. maybe the darkness that sets in around that time makes the miles feel longer.. you’re more aware of every footstep or something! 🤣 🔦
Hi Simon thanks for getting straight back to me. My main query is regarding the amount of kit people carry. In your video it mentions some people carry a lot but there's also runners with virtually nothing. I was under the impression that the mandatory kit was quite strictly enforced? I'd be interested to know if that is the case and what you had with you? I'm currently training with a weighted pack in preparation for carrying the full kit list. Many thanks and much appreciated Regards John
@@johndixon6353 I also stuck to the mandatory kit list - but probably didn't need to add the few extras I took along. It looked to me that there were some people carrying extra, extra stuff too, and this filled up their bags and added to the weight. While it's sensible to be prepared, it's also not sensible to carry extra weight you don't need for 70 miles. There were definitely people who had skimped on the mandatory kit in 2021. Maybe they took the risk of not being checked - it was random checks because of Covid distancing for this event. My suggestion is to stick to the full list, but pare it down to the least you can - there's loads of support along the way should you need help. Plus a lot of other runners throughout the journey. Wherever you think to yourself, "I'll just put an extra one of those in" stop and realise it all adds up and it's a long way to carry it all.
awsome to get to the ¨fishing line¨ oldman congratulations

Well done guys! I was in your video 😂😂. Ran twice before and will be again in 6 weeks. Always say never again 😂
Oh wow, I'm glad you've seen it now :) Well done for running it - it's a beast!!! I'm tempted to run it again, but not so brave as you are :)
Brilliant video, documented the whole race…congrats
Thanks for watching, Matthew. One of the things that I still remember clearly is the air of excitement at the start contrasted with the exhaustion and relief at the finish - it was quite an experience :)
Well done, Simon. That's a long while to be feeling exhausted and to continue on regardless. Great effort 👍🏻🏃♂️

Brilliant video Simon, Brilliant effort by both of you. Well done Simon.

Another great video Simon, it looked tough!
Well done👍🏻

Well done Simon, I did the Wall in 2019 and it was absolutely brutal. A brilliant video and an amazing effort!
Thank you 🙂 I'm sure I'm not the only one who will probably never do something like that again, but is immensely proud of having achieved it. Well done for getting through it yourself - I know your pain and fortitude.
Well done 😎 I’m gonna enter this in 2022 👍🏻
Thanks :) Good for you entering. You won't regret it when you're finished, but you'll certainly question yourself along the way :D
Amazing! Well done
Thanks Robert, almost a year on and I'm still proud of the achievement 😊
Hi Simon! You going back for 2022?? I'll be there, hope to see you again. Tj

Bravo
Thanks Pantaleo, it was a tough day - I hope you enjoyed the video :)
Well done Simon, great video. We chatted at Ultra North and you mentioned it was a training run ahead of the wall. 👍🏽
Thanks Mark, I remember chatting to you 🙂 I'm glad you liked the video.
Nice work!
Thanks Chris :)
What a phenomenal effort over a mammoth distance! Huge respect to you. Funny how your body allows you to run in those final moments.
Thanks Dan - it didn't feel funny ;) But I'm really proud of myself for doing it.
Great vlog, Simon. I’m back for a 6th go tomorrow 😊
Nice one! I've decided that the marathon is my maximum distance, so I applaud you 👏🏻
Well done, great running! Seems like a long time ago now. Brilliant video, will be showing this to friends and family.
Thanks, I hope it helps them really understand just how hard a challenge it is that you overcame 🙂
