Clint Watts, a former FBI agent, just testified before one of the committees about this. UA-cam search "8 Mysterious Russian Deaths Since US Election". Some of them are linked to Russian banks under these investigations.
That's what he's talking about - "worse than cold war". I think "worse" is an exaggeration, but it is that bad. The most brilliant Russian diplomat Churkin and a number of high profile diplomats are killed (or mysteriously died). NATO is preparing for a training that would simulate invasion into a Russian-speaking country.
