I just came back to New World after a yearlong break. Respecced my character into a Musketeer build yesterday; Musket, Rapier, Light armor. Farmed some elite chests in Brimstone Sands to upgrade my gear. So far it is fun, but I have to adapt my playstyle from my old Strenght/constitution build; Heavy Armor, Blunderbuss, Hatchet (or Longsword w/shield), with a lot more focus on dodging now 🙂
A few videos you did on New World. You had concerns on PVP. I did learn that even if you get killed in the PVP area, You keep HALF of what you get in the area before you die, so you can go store that in storage and then got get more!
I don't think I've ever had concerns about PVP at all. I simply don't participate. It's consensual here, so you don't have to do it if you don't want to :) But that's good info to know!
The three trade skills associated with each archetype start at 50. If you pick, based on trade skills, you will have a huge headstart on crafting. And, then, you can always swap to whatever your preferred weapons are. For example, I am starting with Occultist for jewelcrafting, mining, and stonecutting, or Soldier for weaponsmithing, mining, and smelting. As soon as I can, I'm going to swap to lifestaff and flail in heavy armor for levelling.
Like you, I am a sucker for cosmetics. You can only unlock the cosmetics based on armor that character has seen; however, once you unlock the transmog, it is available account wide. So, there a strong chance, I will use one of my other character slots for some of the other starting archetypes, just so I can unlock the transmogs.
Just for reference, these are the Archetype tradeskills and starting weapons: Soldier - weaponsmithing, mining, smelting - sword and shield and hatchet Occultist - jewelcrafting, mining, and stonecutting - firestaff and cold gauntlet Destroyer - armoring, skinning, and leatherworking - warhammer and great axe Mystic - arcana, harvesting, and weaving - lifestaff and void gauntlet Ranger - engineering, logging, and woodcutting - bow and spear Swordbearer - cooking, fishing, and leatherworking - greatsword and blunderbuss Musketeer - armoring, harvesting, weaving - rapier and musket Hope that helps
Musket/Rapier is a great build especially with the target lock if you're into that. Both weapons are very powerful when you spec your attributes into Dex. Good luck out there!
No previous experience with this game. But Renfail, you definitely have me interested to check this game out come mid October. My character type might have similarities to Shukarion below as i was also thinking a musket / axe variant; something like the Hawkeye character from Last of the Mohicans. Not sure if you can duel wield in close combat, but would love to have that as well. Great videos Renfail.
Musket and Axe both use dexterity. So you can do a DEX build with light armor, but medium armor will make you a little more tanky. With all Weapons in New World, They have a primary stat and a secondary. Primary will do the most damage and secondary will do less. So in that DEX build, The musket will do max damage and the hatchet will do less as its a Str primary, but the hatchet is fast and you still will do good damage. If you want to change weapons, skills or build...You can change that at anytime!
Dual pistols...2/3 damage of musket for each so if both hit then 1/3rd damage over musket due to skill and 1/2 reload time each so reloading both would take same time as musket. Just a thought.
We have been asking for dual pistols for about 2 years now, maybe one day we'll get them. The closest we get for now is Grace O'Malley having them when you're really early in the MSQ. (maybe that's a hint?) Personally, I want a whip that does lightning damage. Think Whiplash in Iron Man 2, lol
Still not sure if I should pick engineering or cooking. Engineering would support my bow/spear plus tools. But otoh that stuff I can buy from the faction vendor. Cooking will always be useful but I think its a pita to skillup even with that 50 level boost. edit: I did see somewhere that they are streamlining cooking so maybe it wont be so bad.
I'm going for the Soldier to start with. S&S and Hatchet is the weapon pairing I really want to go with. Leaning heavy into throwing and berserk for hatchet. I played on PC for about a year but could never stick with a weapon pairing long enough to really master it. I'm really going to try to stick with S&S and Hatchet this time. At least until that pairing is fully leveled and mastered. I am also going to give heavy armor a real try. I always went light before, but I really don't dodge enough. Anyways... Good luck out there!

Gotta keep those skills fresh!

@@Renfail Yes! It's a great game and I'm genuinely looking forward to the changes. Happy you'll be there too

That's awesome, I didn't catch the tradeskill thing!

I always use target lock in my action RPGs.

Some folks love that meta; I could care less about fire rate.

Dual Pistols? What is a normal single Pistol?😢😅

It's all gonna be fun :)
How is the controller support? Im guessing it will be just like a console since its going to be on all platforms now?
Check out my open beta weekend stream series; I was playing on PS5 4k resolution the whole time
