Cheers to everyone still rockin' out on these amps in 2022. Tube amp tones without having to mortgage your home, nuff said. I have noticed their resale value has been rising the last little while... though, I have no intention of selling mine any time soon. Excellent review and with someone who actually plays well and demonstrates its versatility perfectly. Well done!
Had mine for 23 years now and it still cranks hard, with my upgraded sg and vs412 cabinet loaded with creambacks it gets acdc tones easily consistently
I’ve still got my head and cab from 2004 ish. I’ve not used it in years as it’s at my folks, but I am now looking for either a 50 or 100 combo as I’m sick of tube amps and their nuances when it comes to home playing. These are great amps.
This is the best demo in the world of this Marshall MG DFX 100 Combo amp! This man truly knows what he's doing! he really knows to use a this amp and how to really wring and squeeze every last bit of tone out of this amp!! He knows how to twist the knobs of a amp to get a great tone.. what a concept. something a lot of guitarist would benefit from learning how to do along with using their volume and tone controls on their guitar that's also a lost concept for a Lot of guitarist. I own this amp and this amp absolutely rocks and is worth every dollar you pay for it!!
For the past 20 years the solid state Amps have competed with the tube Amps..due to technology..the MG's are a perfect example of this..you really can't tell the difference..i have been playing 45 years and two of my friends who also play and for as long thought the two MG's i have the 100FX 2×12 and the 100FX were Tube driven..both of them bought the same MG Amps i have the very next day and are still using them a lot today with no issues..your getting the Tube Tone and Feel plus their much more reliable than the Tube Amps..just my take on these Amps simply brilliant..this is a very true story..thank you Marshall
Correct we need to forget aboot tube amps & concentrate on the future solid state & modelling amps. I just missed one of these amps for £80 I'm gutted .I will have to stick with my Fender gt40 which needs a good phone or preferably tablet to get the proper tones fuck buying the foot switch.
WOW!😳 had no idea what I bought used for $170 at Guitar Center last wk. I got 45 days to purchase the extended warranty, Great! presentation/video, sold me on purchasing the 3yr warranty and getting another one. Thank you for a very informative break down of my MG 100DFX👏👏👏👏
Like any Marshall solid state amp, the first thing you need to do when buying a used one is to check all the solder joints. After that is done, these things are super solid and reliable.
I’ve got the 100dfx and it’s a reliable amp for gigging with a good range of sounds and a pretty decent echo, chorus fox unit,It cuts through and although its a 100 watt amp it’s very loud, the down side is it’s heavy.
You're missing my point ***** , it can be hard to be willing to buy something if what you experienced as the final product was bad simply because the wrong person was using it, or said person was using it the wrong way making it seem unappealing. Best example, check the musician's friend demo of the Schecter Omen 8. Made the guitar sound like ass, but regardless I own it, and it slays.
This guy is making too much stupid noises, I suppose it comes with trying to be manly, I mean who the hell could use overblown sounds like this on a live gig ? Management would probably ask the band to leave. 🤔
The Marshall MG 100 FX is the Reason i stopped using Tube Amps and looking through the Web i most certainly not the only one and i see Guitarist use this Marshall Along Side their JCM 800 And JCM 900 Marshalls..its because the Marshall 100 FX is a remarkable Amp..i paid almost $600 dollars for mine when it first came out. 2×12 Combo that came Stock with Celestion Speakers..this Amp Gives you the warm and heavy Tones and everything in between..the True Marshall Tone in the Nine Years i have had Mine Not one Single issue with it its Much much more reliable than any Tube Amp and it gives you everything and More ..every Professional Guitarist/Marshall Lover should have this Amp in their Line up Live and Recording..its a incredible Amp..
I love this review of this amp, I have a lot of bias towards this because I have one and use it and it’s been with me for years, passed down from my dad when I got my guitar and it has such a gorgeous tone that you can’t NOT love it
i got the 100 watt at a pawn shop. its such a sick amp for real. this amp has just enough FX and great crunch. you can dial in a great tone...... and you can add a cab to it lol. (unplug the 12" in the back)
yes, this is the video for the DFX, it has the FDD switch which dampens high and low tones, making this solid state sound more like the old tube amps. I have this amp and I really enjoy that feature. Kicks ass. The only issue I have with this amp is I find it hard to get a real crisp clean without pedals and EQ's. Cheers
I recommend this amp to all cool people that want a cool sound. My guitar friend, well actually my band mate wants one. Hope he gets lucky at christmas
Like i have mentioned before i have Four Marshall Amps two JCM"s and two MG's the MG's are a 2006 MG 100HDFX AND 2009 MG 100FX 2×12..Both are incredible Amps and hadn't had not one single issue with them..i can't say that about the JCM"s..love all four Marshall s and will never part with any of them..
Not sure why everyone hates the MG series. For being ~$220 and a solid state, it actually sounds pretty good. By no means a Randall, and no way in hell does it stand up to Marshall's stacks (JCM800, the like), but if you're on a budget and need a decent versatile amp that can crank out some good distortion and cleans in one package without any external pedals, what's the problem? (Edit: spelling)
The problem is not amps and gear, it's that a majority of guitar players out there really really suck. They think that buying amps/pedals etc of their hero will make them sound good. I got a couple buddies that are...well...not so hot players, but have very good tube amps (Old jcm800 & 5153) and various expensive guitars and pedals and shit. I can take about 30 seconds of their shit slop playing before tapping out. It's painful when a guy just can't play good regardless if he plays through a $5000 rig or a little practice amp. They sweat over little nuances that make zero difference in the big scheme.(germanium transistor vs silicon ones etc) they buy all this stuff and still sound like shit. If you can play, you can play and this amp sounds just fine with a good player as evidenced by this video. I'm a tube amp guy too but this MG sounds bitch. Hell Jason Becker recorded "blue" with a dam 80's Fender M80 solid state practice amp (not exactly known as a tone machine) and it sounds brilliant. Knowing how to record and produce is another whole part of the tone equation too that gets overlooked.
So true you rock you are not only a marketing guy but fuck you rock you bring warmness in people harts the way you play with passion like jimmy Hendricks I also have dfx100 and you have inspired me to practice more and use my amp to full potential John From South africa
I've owned this amp since 2002, sounds as kick-ass now as it did when I bought it new! 🤘🤘🤘 The newer silverface MG's are not nearly as good, IMO; they sound too boxy and shrill
I know your comment is a couple of years old but yes! This was my first amp back in the day and I still use it now, great amp for the price. And I agree the original series is the best
I have this and bought it brand new. Agreed. I am sure the newer Marshalls are quality but the sound is lacking, unfortunately. Best amp I ever owned is my MG Dfx!
Some of the reviews that I have seen about the mg100dfx bag the amp and speaker and people say buy a jcm45 or a jcm2000, we'll if everyone could afford them then everyone would have one and the people on a budget would not care about cost, I brought my mg100dfx and marshall vs4 cabinet for 200 dollars 23 years ago and it still works perfectly and is very powerful and loud, the people saying that they are not reliable and sound crap are just wankers who think you need a 5 grand Gibson and a 10 grand marshall stack to have a decent setup
The MGs get an unfair bad rap. Bottom line, if you use quality pickups and quality speakers, an MG will get you about 85% the tone of a cranked all tube Marshall. Cranked power tubes mainly just add compression so you can add a compressor in front to give you that little extra sustain, punch & sag. I use a Donner Ultimate Comp in front of my Mosfet100 and it's pure magic! No one would EVER know it's not an all tube amp without looking(not even Eric Johnson)
Hi, congratulations for the video! I have the same amp, and for some time now, when I play some notes, especially the lowest ones, the amp's chassis vibrates a lot. What could it be about? Is there a specific do-it-yourself job on this amp that you could recommend? Thanks a lot!
Just bought one of these. Can't figure out why the footswitch only has 2 switches. Should really be one for clean/crunch, one for OD1 and one for OD2. And a fourth for FX. Anyone found one that is compatible with more switches??
MY QUESTION IS WHAT DOES HE HAVE BETWEEN THAT AMP AND THE GUITAR... I'VE SEEN OTHER 100DFX VIDEOS AND THEY SOUND GOOD BUT... NOT THIS GOOD...? THIS SOUNDS LIKE CONCERT QUALITY.. THE OTHER VIDEOS SOUND MORE LIKE GARAGE QUALITY...
Not saying you won’t tell the difference between this amp and the tube driven Marshall amps when in the room. But I cannot tell the difference in tone when it’s recorded and posted onto UA-cam with all the other videos of tube Marshall amps. I suspect that audience members probably wouldn’t be any the wiser, especially with that FDD button. If it takes pedals well, and probably would sound much better into a vintage cabinet, why own tubes?
Mine drowns out my drummer mate who is playing 8 feet away from me, my amp is only on 4 before he asks me to turn it down because I'm overriding him and he can't be heard any more, put a vs412 cabinet or a lead cabinet and it sounds even better 🎸👊
For the headphones to work you need to disconnect the speaker cable at the back. The headphones will now work. You will need to plug the speaked cable back in to get the speaker working again though, So, don't forget :)
stephen kennett I know that. But was asking the difference between the regular FX and Dfx. I suppose it doesn't matter now, as I picked up a mint condition MG100DFX for 120$ on CL. Is that a good deal? :-)

yeah i got mine because im kinda in love with marshall ha i mainly use it for playing rocksmith an shit. i got a marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 that lives on top of a Marshall 1960a Cab but its too much hassle getting it out in the house

I picked this amp up in 2024 for 150.00
I’ve still got my head and cab from 2004 ish. I’ve not used it in years as it’s at my folks, but I am now looking for either a 50 or 100 combo as I’m sick of tube amps and their nuances when it comes to home playing. These are great amps.

The shred-o-matic 2000. Dang he's good and fun to listen to. Really shows the versatility of the amp with it.
Man, this dude can play!!!!
Iv played the Whiskey a go go in Los Angeles Ca with this MG100 1x12 its a powerhouse of a combo .
WOW!😳 had no idea what I bought used for $170 at Guitar Center last wk. I got 45 days to purchase the extended warranty, Great! presentation/video, sold me on purchasing the 3yr warranty and getting another one.

We absolutely love our Mg100dfx, getting fat crunching Marshall tones for an affordable price 🤘🤘🎸🎸
Great demo, tone and superb playing! The best demo f this amp I seen and heard.
I actually dig his guitar chops ! The amp sounds cool as well !
I want this for OD2! Excellent video!
Just bought this amp used at Sam ash for $135 after negotiating a little. Stoked this video exists.

Holy Shit ! ! Homie rips them strings a new ass ! ! Really strong finger technique. Excellent Rob ! !
What’s the name of guitar player??
The dude shreds the piss out of this amp then goes back to a super low key vibe, it makes me die laughing.
I had the same thing. It's hilarious.
This Amp is one of the very best out their..simply a fantastic Amp
best review of any marshall mg series ive seen
I have one of these. Great for practice. Was my main amp for awhile, then got a 1960 cab, ran it through there till I got a tube head
This guy is GOOD. I'm sick of vids of good equipment, but the player sucks, so you end up not buying it.
You're missing my point ***** , it can be hard to be willing to buy something if what you experienced as the final product was bad simply because the wrong person was using it, or said person was using it the wrong way making it seem unappealing. Joshua Maletta that's a fact. If a guy doesn't have an ear for tone he can make anything sound like crap
This guy is making too much stupid noises, I suppose it comes with trying to be manly, I mean who the hell could use overblown sounds like this on a live gig ? Management would probably ask the band to leave. 🤔
@@RickJando Do you even smoke on the water?
@@RickJando Every metal player would, man.
i'm about to get 2 of these for my jam room. Hooking these up to a mixer with a couple pairs of headphones

You mess around better than I play, ugh!! I got the exact same thing off Craigslist last week...damn good amp!!
I love this review of this amp, I have a lot of bias towards this because I have one and use it and it’s been with me for years, passed down from my dad when I got my guitar and it has such a gorgeous tone that you can’t NOT love it
The BEST review ever of an amplifier. Kudos!
BEST MARSHALL MG 100 DEMO !!!!
Great demo, this was my amp as
A teenager, still in the loft, wish I had somewhere to put it, shouldn’t of had kids 🙈😂
Ive had one of these since about 2002 took the back panel off sounds a lot better, lets the speaker cones move easier, less compressed.
My first amp. Loved it!!
Nice amp and great guitar playing thank you

surprisingly these sound good loud. a bit stiffer than an 800 but in the ball park. My actual amp is a 6505

can you have the sound from the amp speaker and the emulated line out at the same time?

how much should i buy a used marshall mg100dfx? is it a price around 200 euros a good deal?
Will my MG100DFX have a wrinkle in the vinyl above the Input/Gain?
Funny how Rob Math makes everything sound good.

Ima buy one for band gig practice and actual gigs...i play punk..does this get an good punk tone?
Definitely. Mids around 3 or 4, back down on the reverb and wail away. Loved mine for any style. Sold it in a pinch. Still miss it

Does it go to 11?
Nope, it's not a spinal tap model lol 🤣😂🤣
It does not have a stock celestion speaker, open te back of the speakerbox and you will find a eminece 90012 speaker in it....
My half stack HDFX have stock Celestions
It depends on which year your amp or cab was made. The earliest ones had Celestion speakers.
Mines got a celestion in it, the original speaker, its 23 years old
What song is he playing at 6:48 ?
Hey brotha the song is 316 by Van Halen. RIP Eddie
Can you still get this amp new today ? Or something comparable? Mg102?
I don't know but its pretty sweet.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the MGFX series and the MGDFX series (Both respectfully 100)?
The hdfx is the head for these amps
stephen kennett I know that. But was asking the difference between the regular FX and Dfx. I suppose it doesn't matter now, as I picked up a mint condition MG100DFX for 120$ on CL. Is that a good deal?
:-)
the fx doesnt have the digital fx added is all, yeah sounds like a pretty good deal, i like it alot but it wouldnt gig with it
stephen kennett yeah. I got it for nostalgic reasons. I still love my Peavey VIP amp better. But the Marshall sounds okay. I would still need to run a TS through it though.
yeah i got mine because im kinda in love with marshall ha i mainly use it for playing rocksmith an shit. i got a marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 that lives on top of a Marshall 1960a Cab but its too much hassle getting it out in the house
i want this ampppp
what does he play at 12:16
Somebody else said Cutting Up Fish by Paul Bones
Hahah he just had to play eruption ;)
Van Halen fan
Anyone ever use this amp with an acoustic guitar?
Yes. I play my Fender dreadnought cutaway through my MG100. It works a treat.
15:53 - did you just jizz in your pants ?
roll up some paper and put it under the table
wow nice amp jaja i want one
