The troubleshootinng guide mentions a stiff connector to the headset. Man, they aren't kidding. I had to really push on mine to get it to seat. Voila! Headset recognized. Thanks for this video and the links!
I've gone through all the software fixes I could find before finding out that the dot on the connector needs to be flush with the edge of the headset. After wiggling it around a bit it finally connected. My headset that I ordered a few days ago didn't come with the new cable that's rumoured to be better, but it turns out it wasn't needed. I was ready to go get a usb hub next day lol
Just returned mine after it worked for 20 minutes but then getting an unfixable 1-4 error. Was so bummed out after watching Seb's great videos, I was so excited. After 3 days of trouble shooting and doing everything recommended I finally gave up. There are tons of people having problems and theres no way a product this finicky should have ever shipped.
I got my G2 yesterday, worked for all of 3 hours :(. I have a 2080 with a USB C port and it worked perfectly at first. I played a few games and then decided I was going to get my knuckles controllers setup following your guide. I got everything working but then the audio on the G2 wasn't showing up. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and got a 7-14 error. Since then I've tried it on 3 other computers, all get the same exact error. Two of those computers are Intel and one is my Threadripper machine. I tried using the USB hub in my monitor per some G2 threads and no joy. If anyone is thinking of getting one of these and they have an AMD X570 motherboard, I'd say don't bother! It looked really nice, almost no glare and great clarity when it worked. I was super excited about it. After troubleshooting for 6 hours, watching these vids, going to the forums, discord channel, and HP Reverb site I have concluded that this headset is NOT ready for primetime. UA-camrs are getting better hardware than they are sending normal people. I can't explain how they all still have working headsets. There are literally 1000's of people having issues with them connecting, audio randomly dropping out, screens going black constantly. Error after error and nothing seems to fix it. I suspect my cable died after the 3 hours I used it. It shows up in device manager and it says it's working, but it's not, won't even light up. I'm beyond frustrated with this thing. Me and my son both use VR, I have 2 Valve Indexes, 2 HTC Vives, an Oculus Rift S and for a minute I had a Samsung Odyssey+. All of them just work, no issues almost ever and never anything serious if I do have an issue. Very disappointed with this headset and cannot recommend it to anyone until after they fix all the issues with it. Before you tell me stuff to try, I've already tried everything, at least twice! I have a powered USB hub coming tomorrow that will probably be the nail in the coffin because I don't expect it to fix anything. I saw one UA-camr have an issue and they sent him a new cable which fixed his problem. Hopefully I get the same satisfaction.
Thank you for summarizing the common issues and fixes with the G2 that people are encountering in the extended launch period. I would have expected this from HP, but I am glad you are providing their tech support. You are an asset to the VR community!
Bingo! Computer didn’t see the device. Turned out the connector wasn’t plugged in all the way. Doh. Pushed it in all the way an we’re in business. Liked and subscribed.
Let me just say.... youre amazing. I was ready to go to the store with warrantee and have them repair my left speaker because it was making a crackling sound if i moved it, or if there was a lot of bass in the sound (like in music). I watched your video and saw how to properly reseat the contact pins (I already knew how to unscrew the speaker, but i didnt see how to properly fasten them carefully) and it fixed my issue. just.... bravo. thank you for all your help, i was getting really nervous about having to send it back to the manufacturer and wait for a month or so to get any possible fix.
No way!!! Your an actual legend. I couldn’t get it to work and I have a b550 motherboard. What I did to fix the issue was to turn the stuff mentioned in the video to 3.0 instead of auto and also plugged the headset into a powered USB hub. So glad it works!!!!!
Speaking up before Ive finished the video. Skip the Windows MR app on Win 10 and use the HP Reverb G2 Set Up App on the Windows store. I was getting Error 7-14 on MR but the other one i just mentioned on Windows Store worked like a charm AND it rolls right in to MR App. Its the same thing in the end after Set Up.
Many thanks for that video ! Just received my Reverb G2 yesterday... after 4+2 months order delays and there it is... and it is not recongnized ! Hopefully you are there ! I've got high end motherboard MSI MEG UNIFY with a Ryzen 3950, BIOS is up to date 2021.01, all win10 updates are good, check all USB-C and USB-A 3.1 it is not working even with BIOS PCI gen3 setup... :-( now I just buying an USB 3.1 powered hub... hoping for the best... stay tuned tomorrow for the next episode ;-). What a mess for a product like this, I never imagine that !!! -> nop, it does not work at all even with the new USB 3.1 powered Hub... I'm locked and unable to contact HP support while support page turn in loop cannot register my serial number on the reverbg2 (not recognized) and bot chat didn't recognize hp reverb g2 option ! Awesome support web site !
Have had the Reverb G1 for 12 months and just got my G2 a few days ago. The G1 is better "HANDS DOWN". No one has mentioned this but the G2 has less depth of Field. this is huge in sim racing!
This is a great reference. Thanks Sebastian! I got my G2 working 45 minutes before this video released. I had to do a clean windows install (WMR would not install on my Windows 10 Pro N build) and buy a powered USB hub for the X570 workaround. I had to do the frankenfov mod for it to fit my face right. (Great idea Sebastian and a big thanks!) Now I just love this headset. I have been playing Medal of Honor (Oculus version over Revive) and it looks and plays great! I ordered mine through Connection on 9/3 and it arrived 12/15.
@@and324fsjsef clarity is spectacular and I just tried the FOV mid to get closer to the lens that definitely helps. Trying different positions on my head to dial in the sweet spot. Over all I’m impressed with it so far.
Audio problem solved: I had an issue with sound that worked, then stop working, then working back, and so on during my sessions. When I stopped using the USB-C port of my motherboard and started to use the USB-C to USB-A adapter, it worked perfectly. About the controller batteries: I also bought the batteries and charger recommended by Sebatian, and it worth it, it's great.
I ran into the incompatibility issue with the x570 chipset, a pretty common chipset when building a system based on the new AMD Ryzen 3 CPUs. Rather than forcing my PCIe setup to 3.0, I had to buy a USB-C PCIe card. I have a PCIe 4.0 M.2 drive, so I did not want to switch to 3.0. The new card worked like a charm.
Same here. X570 chipset and running two PCIe 4.0 drives in Raid 0 (yes, it's fast nearly 10GBps) and I do not want to downgrade to PCIe 3.0. Ordered a USB add in card and a powered hub. Fingers crossed!
If my best friend ask me this question I would reply: man, cancel it. You see all the issues: 15 minutes then sound cut off, no sound, small sweet spot, always blurry sides and more. HP has shown us G1 failure and they made step two called G2 failure. Cancel and make sure they 'll start shipping fixed units then buy if it' s 100% alright. Otherwise you'll stack with faulty units and users reported HP and sellers don't have customer service. But you know - your choice. Let me know what's your choice
@@OhItsThat I was beating myself with thoughts. Quest 2 or G2. Didn't know which one I should buy but considering how awesome it suppose to be with G2, according to MRTV, I was leaning towards G2. I almost completed buying process, but I knew I'll need Rtx 3070, so in the end, luckily, I didn't buy either (Q2 or G2). To make my waiting time for Rtx better I pre ordered CP2077. Now I see broken promises in both products. Reviewers lied about CP2077 and I think it's very much the same about Reverb G2, isn't MRTV?
the USB connection is definitely sensitive. Good info on the X570 PCI 4.0, I'll have to remember that whenever I get my hands on a 3080 and I have to connect with my motherboard USB. For me I first tried the USBC on my RTX 2070S and got an error, tried with the motherboard USBC same error. I replugged it into my RTX 2070s USBC and rebooted my computer and the G2 connected right away to WMR. I find this usually helps if I get the USB connection error. Could be a possibility that on first plug in, windows is busy installing the drivers/updates so the timing is off to connect with WMR.
If you are having audio problems I corrected mine completely by removing the ear phones cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner and reinstalled and tightened the screws as much as I thought I could without stripping them. Audio is now just as it should be.
Great video Sebastian, I would think it was exhausting to make? A brand new HMD with so many issues doe's not bode well for HP's HMD future! and I've never had an issue with their PC's and I've one over 14 years old 32bit still working with a new HDD.
Great video seb, I know most of this as I've watched all your videos already 😁unfortunately my issue is my audio is honestly far too quiet, I do have good hearing but even at full volume it feels like I'm playing at half volume, I've got my speakers and headset in the best position, I've removed the speakers and reattached them and checked all my sound settings but can't get it any louder, I know others who have had the same issue as me but most people say its really loud so dunno why mine is, could just be my setup, gonna keep looking into it but debating whether to go back to headphones but would be such a shame as I love the off ear audio
Apparently, windows creates extra virtual monitors by default when you plug in the set. It's quite a big performance hit. Found a video yesterday that fixes this and depending on your system can make a huge difference. ua-cam.com/video/8H0yDefnqMA/v-deo.html Maybe MRTV can make a separate video about this. Should help out a lot of people.
Great video, however... none of the above. Still get nothing. [UPDATE] It turns out that the cable you plug into the headset feels like it can't go any further and the last thing you want to do is break something inside. This was the problem, you really need to PUSH that cable in until the wire just about touches the headset!
Decreasing the monitor brightness has nothing to do with the HMD = (Head Mounted Display) dude, obviously, you weren't paying attention to Sebastian's video.
Great timing on this video. I got mine recently and I was only having trouble with Boneworks controller bindings. For some reason, it won't let me pick the custom bindings option. The fix worked with The Walking Dead tho. Edit: Fixed. I went into the advanced settings and picked the show old bindings option.
Hi Sebastian. Love your videos. I have an idea for a new G2 video for you. Many of us DCS players groan with its poor GPU optimisation and lack of Vulkan rendering support, so we end up having to pay out a huge amount on high end GPU cards to match high end headsets because of this. I haven't seen ANY GPU benchmarks comparing different nvidia GPUs - this would be really useful to see how different GPU's affect DCS framerate on the HP Reverb G2, and this will really help prospective buyers, e.g. going from something like an old1050Ti all the way up to a 3090 - with the same native resolution settings obviously! I appreciate it might take you some time swapping out cards! But it would be great. Keep up the brilliant work, You've helped me choose the best visual headset 3 times now over the years, Odyssey, Reverb Pro(G1) and now the G2. Thanks!
I just got my G2 today!!! Thanks for making these videos. Hopefully I don't have issues but it's good to know I have a good resource to turn to. I install the latest updates on Windows already. Looks like I need to get the 1.5V batteries and charger.
I’ve had my reverb for a little while now, and it’s been pretty difficult with audio bugs, afk issues, the works, but pretty good so far. How’s your experience?
Was yours switching back and forth too? It’s so frustrating cause it just swaps randomly when I’m trying talking to my friends in VrChat and I end up missing half of what they say! Hopefully this solves my issue.
Thanks! I finally got my G2 and held out to open it for Christmas. Out of the box it worked pretty well. I did have some very frustrating controller problems with not binding. Hopefully this resolves Elite Dangerous which doesn't to see the controller at all. If you could though... How do I reset my view??? This is something the Rift S easily did with 2 clicks. I cant seem to find it.
Hey, I came with updates. So in BIOS I changed PCIE 4.0 on 3.0 and it helped me to launch the headset, but still I had some problems with sound and image with black artefacts. After I bought a PCIe card @t it solved my problem and now my H2 works well. Thank you for your help.
I am noticing a problem in my reverb g2 which is that the “focus sweet spot” is very small, much worse than valve index. Am I doing something wrong or is it normal?
Same here. Ir's the original cover's fault. My fov and sweetspot is very tiny. It' s the distance from eyes to lenses, so it also depends by head's anatomy. So if you are not wearing glasses, try with cover completely off. You will be amazed. A good thin cover mod should do it, but at the moment there aren't any except the odysee cover.
Tha is Seb but I was really hoping you would help us out with custom controller bindings... In many cases there is no existing community bindings so im left trying to create my own and it's a minefield... It would be great if you could do a more detailed run down of how to create bindings when there is not a community one to choose?
When my G2 was not detected it was because my display cable was not seated fully into the headset. I didn't dare push hard enough to get this cable seated at first, but eventually after researching it I found out that you must push it far enough that the small hole aligns with the edge lip of the headset. It takes more force than you would normally be comfortable applying. It's a very bad design IMO.
I got my G2 yesterday, after 5 months waiting. It took me quite a while to set it up. I started having problems with the USB recognition but then I realized that the cable wasn't properly connected into the headset connector (you really have to push it to the very bottom) , then my pc finally started the automatic installation. Once I had it installed and working, I noticed that every once in a while I had little sudden blackscreens while playing. After about 3 hours of playing (simracing titles and a bit of Alyx with breathtaking visuals) the headset have just died. The power supply box's white led does not shine anymore. Bad start for the G2 :-(
@@alfie8472 you're welcome! Another important tip, make sure you lower the volume gain of the headset to 80%. Apparently the excesive volume causes internal vibration in the headset that produces the black screens. Also do the regedit stuff (find some video (tag "Reverb G2 Regedit AllocateVirtualMonitors" ) to disable the automatic creation of the virtual monitors when connecting the headset, that also help the blackscreens and strange image vibration to happen.
@@Bajomano Has the headset started working again? If not what will you do? My headset died about 1 minute after I followed your tip, I haven't been able to get it working again. The white light on the power box is still on & device manager recognises it & says it is working. When I powered up today the sound is cutting in & out but no lights, I think that means connection problems.
I just tried it on my other computer & it is working on that one. I switched from an i5 6600k to an i7 7700 k, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Basically likes one computer & not the other one.
@@alfie8472 I am completely sure that In my case the 6M cable is dead as the with led of the box doesn't shine. I called HP and they are going to send me a new one. There might be a sofware compatibility issue in your case. Make sure you have installed the latest USB drivers on your computer as well as the latest Windows Update. Then in Mixed Reality settings check image quality as "best performance" instead of "optimum visuals" (or something like that). Install the latest driver for your motherboard too. I will let you know if the new cable solves my problem. Thanks fir asking! :-)
I wouldn’t recommend changing pcie 4x to 3x for most people with x570 If you’re getting connectivity or 7-14 errors. I’ve paid for a pcie 4x nvme, and I’m sure I’ll have a 3080 eventually, I don’t want to sacrifice perf even if the difference is small. A better solution is to use an external usb hub. Working well for me with Gigabyte x570 itx board with ryzen 5900x, cheap non powered anker hub. HP really need to communicate an update, lots of people complaining on this one. Either patches on the AMD side or a cable that integrates the cheap hub hardware that makes it work.
Hello Sebastian, I received my G2 a few days ago. I tried everything except a usb hub which I will receive the day after tmo. I bought it after your recommendation and I just want to let you know how disappointed I am with both the delay and now the impossibility to use the f** headset that's on my desk. And the extra money that I had to spend for two usb hubs and a powered one + 8 zinc 1.6v batteries + a charger for those. It's getting ridiculous. I hope that it'll work with the powered hub. That said I wish my 3070 had a usb C.... maybe all this 7-14 mess would have been prevented.
update : it works with the powered usb hub! and it looks great. It's still a shame that I had to spend all that money and wait all that time, but I guess it's worth it.
Yes the picture is super crisp (but the sweet spot is not that big but you get used to it). The controllers are absolutely terrible though. I am keeping it for simulation and some games but I am glad I have à quest2 with
Hey Sebastian. Got a new HP Reverb G2. Controllers not working in SteamVR properly. The assignments are reports to be correct but there is a problem. Like they are rotated CW. left is north, right is south, up is left etc... in both controllers. No hardware issue. They are working correctly in cliff house. Changed custom settings in SteamVR but didn't help. Like it has no effect. Is it possible that you might have an idea?
Thanks for this video. There are still bugs I'm working out (on a Ryzen 5800X + RTX 3070 of all things!) especially the PCIE 4.0 support thing, but this helped out with a lot of the issues I had.
I've seen the comparison videos, but am looking for real input here. I've had my G2 for a few weeks now and while the image is great, the headaches are making it not so great. Those of you that have used a Quest 2 via link, how much better is the image quality on the G2? I'm looking to play mainly Flight Sim 2020, heavily modded Skyrim and some other high fidelity games. Coming from a Rift S to the G2, the image is SO much better. But, if I can get a Quest 2 for half the cost, none of the headaches and if the image is close then that sounds like a winner to me. I'm driving the G2 right now with a 3090. Also, I can't find out the date I actually received my G2 from Connection. I got an e-mail from them on Nov 18th that they were shipping, but I could have sworn I got mine before then. I preordered day 1 and paid for overnight shipping. My question from this thought is how much time do I have to request a refund? Thanks!
G2 definitely looks clearer than Quest 2 over link, but Quest 2 looks very good. I can't comment on Virtual Desktop. If you are playing something that is very taxing on your system, the compression required for Quest 2 will make it worse, but I've seen reports that Virtual Desktop has run smoothly in some cases when Link didn't. If you are looking for minimal tinkering headaches, Quest 2 wins. It just works effortlessly.
@@mixedrealityTV Especially with the lighthouse tracking setup I hear. Love your content btw! If only we could get an Index 2 with similar screen quality to G2 with larger FOV.
Thanks for a great video again! I finally received my G2 yesterday and prepared with your excellent info I went to set it up. After much fumbling and googling, I discovered that Mixed reality will not work with Windows 10 Pro N. Aaaaarggghhh. Now I need to find a window in my sim racing to do a fresh install of Pro.
You are welcome! Damn, there are honestly too many hurdles for this. Why spotlight that work on your version of windows? Microsoft really needs to improve that!
i have a laptop so no displayport and the adapter i bought is 1.4 so it works but when i plug it in to my laptop i get the error 1-4 Make sure your headset's display cable is plugged in correctly. i dont know why PLEASE somone help
So I'm experiencing an issue where my left controller says it's paired with my headset, but it wont track it. It tracks the right controller just fine, but not the left. also i noticed the lights on the left controller are dimmer. Any suggestions?
Hello. My problem is that I can't see the youtube vr 360 videos and it stays on a black screen with 4 white dots rotating. Know why it could be. Thank you and regards
Prior to the latest MSFS 2020 update, I had no issues with the HP G2 in VR. Now, after loading up the flight an enabling VR, the MSFS 2020 screen comes up and then goes back to the Windows Mixed Reality Screen. On the monitor, I get the VR image that’s continuously flickering. I’ve updated the drivers for my 1080TI GPU, re-installed WMR, adjusted the VR graphics settings with no success. No issues flying in VR with X-Plane 11 with the same headset. Any suggestions?
thanks buddy for the tip on disabling vibrations!!!! for what it's worth I have been using 1.2v standard rechargeable batteriess with no issues so far. I haven't tried a fast pace hand tracking game like beat saber to prove it works well. just half life alyx so far....
Hi I am unable to move in TestHMD/ROV_Test_Beta app (I have the latest 1.2 version). Do you have recommended controller mappings or are able to share a community mapping for it as you seem to have no problem using it. Thanks.
Please suggest how to connect HP Reverb G2 display cable to MSI GF65 (Having C-Port 2.0 not usable, but having HDMI) Graphics card is GTX 1660Ti, I brought DP port to HDMI connector but not supported. Please help
In some Games like Pavlov i can't grab weapons from the floor with my G2? I tried many times to adjust the height of the floor. Still not working. Do i have to adjust my height? How can i fix that?
Yes me too and even in half life alex I cant reach the ground to pick things up

I received my G2 today and at first, it worked great. However, after a couple of hours and me rebooting my PC, WMR starts automatically after logon showing me an error code 7-14 and how the headset couldn't be found. When looking at the breakout box, the white LED no longer is ON. Does this mean the breakout box is now broken only after a couple of hours usage?
I just got the new HP Reverb G2 but I'm having problems with the controllers. They show paired but not connected. When I press and hold the Windows button they power up and then in a few seconds they power back down. They never do connect. But yet they do show as paired. I have the X570 mother board and I tried the PCI-e to Gen 3 and it did nothing to fix the problem. And it's the only problem I have. Everything else works. And the sound is Awesome. I just can't get the bloody controller to connect. I am on Windows 10 with the latest updates installed. I"ve got Ryzen 7 with 64 GB of Ram. I'm just about ready to return these to amazon and I really don't want to. But if I can't get the controllers to work, what good is the VR Headset? I'm using the batteries that came with the controllers. Could that be an issue?
Hey Sebastian, I'm completely new to VR and recieved my G2 a few weeks ago. First of all, it is absolutely amazing. Even on my laptop with a 2070 Super MaxQ GPU. What program do you use to show the framerate/super sampling stats while in game? Also, I've been trying to use mods with Skyrim VR but can't seem to get them to work. Basically, the mods change the controller bindings and i can't figure out which any community bindings to use to get the game to work correctly. If you get around to modding your Skyrim, could you possibly post a video showing the mods that you end up using and how you get the controllers to work correctly? Thanks for all of the content. Keep it coming!!
Get fpsVR from Steam. It's cheap and I use it a lot especially because I mod SkyrimVR (a lot). I'm not an expert but it's a good tool to have. You'll have to go into steam settings and switch to oculus bindings or download them from VRIK mod page and install them (I recommend installing that mod because it's really cool). After you have oculus bindings you may have to go into the VRIK MCM and swap X and Y buttons. You may have to go into the the steam binding settings and edit the bindings so the X button as the Oculus B button otherwise you won't be able to drop things from your inventory. No matter what you'll have to experiment with buttons to find out what they do... or not. Here's the reddit post I used to fix my binding issues. It leaves out the x button part. If the x and y buttons don't work right after that swap the buttons back. old.reddit.com/r/skyrimvr/comments/jrgwa4/hp_reverb_g2_arrived_today_need_hep_with/ I'm not great with instructions but I want to at least put you on the path. Definitely get into the SkyrimVR reddit as there's tons of info there and it's a great community. Look up Cangar for mod instructional vids. This video got me started with modding SkyrimVR I recommend it with his other vids. ua-cam.com/video/ncRsn7rHK5Q/v-deo.html I hope this helps you.
@@Im_JustKev Thanks! I really appreciate the help and will try this out as soon as I am able. I did try the VRIK mod with the oculus bindings but couldn't seem to get it to work right (never swapped the x and y buttons). Hopefully following these instructions will work out. Thanks again!
OK, if i don't tell anyone I'm gonna burst. I think I just solved the (at least my) 13-14 problem. HP Reverb not booting in 90 hz. The problem is the connector the long one that plugs into the headset), all I did was pull it out and gave it a little squeeze with my fingers. I did it the first time and it started in 90 HZ but no display. Pulled it out, squeezed a little tighter.. VOILA. It's worth a shot
hi should you test the headset from someone like me who says that the sweetspot is ridiculously little and compare to your g2 please ? Cause i think there are some bad g2 and some good ones
I facing this issue where my controllers are not point straight in SteamVR games while it does well and true in WMR cliff house. is there a setting or calibration i can do to fix this? please help
Took me over an hour to figure out I had to plug the power cable into the breaker box. lol There was nothing saying that in the directions, what little there were. My first VR headset so I am excused for that ! lol
@@mixedrealityTV Sabastian I was watching you playing "Medal Of Honor: Above & Beyond". Will the steam version play on the G2 without any modifications? The game specs in Steam don't list the WMR or the G2 as being compatible. Thanks ;)
It tells you in step 3 of the directions, but it's impossible to work out that the thing you're plugging it into is the breaker box. It just looks like a black blur
I switch to the Reverb had a Rift before, but now my Skyrim game is REALLY dark even outside are the face almost black when there is no direct light, just switch the headset did not changed the game. Any advice?
Is there any way to turn off that tunnel comfort vision setting off in the Windows Mixed Reality Home Portal?, it's kind of annoying, when turn around using the thumb sticks on the G2 controllers, the sides blur, some people use that setting if they have motion sickness in vr, I don't like that setting, its annoying and ruins the immersion when being in vr, is there any way to turn that setting off?, I'm about to put the G2 aside and set my Rift S back up to my PC
It is unfortunate third parties such as yourself are having to make troubleshooting videos due to the lack of support from Microsoft and HP. The fact that the controllers only operate correctly using 1.5V should be a sign that the engineering and design behind this headset had some very weak links. Thank you for this!
I must admit I’m quit confused about the sweet spot. Don’t get it wrong but I’m a bit disappointed how small it is but it’s also my first experience with vr headset. I’m always trying to replace the headset correctly to see the sharpest image on dcs world. I thought the clarity was everywhere whatever you rolling your eyes. Maybe it’s a point you should raise for the future videos explaining in a better way how the beginner will discover that « issue » Prosit
The top strap needs to be adjusted to hold the headset in the right spot vertically, and the side straps need to be tight enough so that it doesn't shift during play. It is like that with any headset.
Thank you for your videos! I have been trying to set my reverb g2 for a week now. All I get is an error code 15-4 when trying to set it up via Microsoft Mixed Reality. Does anyone have a hint on what to do? Thank you so much!
One comment, my G2 was doing a weird skip every 3rd frame thing after windows update or nvidia driver update etc.. not sure but rolling back didnt fix anything. I also will note i had the vorpx driver installed and removed that as well. HP I concur has zero support for this product. The only thing they offered was "depot repair" and sent me a box to ship it in... Low and behold I reinstalled windows entirely with the latest service pack or whatever they call it these days and it fixed it. So depot repair would have just been a waste of time and gave them time to break my headset.. 3 issues: 1. MRTV, per your G2 with Valve index controllers I did the same thing and it works pretty well. However your other video doesnt show that the steam guardian shows up with the index controllers. Mine does not at all and i nearly punched through my game shelf while playing blade and sorcery. Any advice on this? Also would like to make the guardian better or somewhat like my rift s where i can actually see it when i break the barrier. 2. I do mirror audio so i can output to a projector and sound system when friends come over. On my rift it was 100% in sync. On the G2 theres nearly a second delay between what I hear on my headset vs the external speakers. I need to disable headset audio entirely as it has an insane echo and makes it unplayable. 3. Lastly The G2 while within steam cannot reset view so I am facing the correct way. It doesnt do anything and occasionally I open the software to find my controllers behind me and 10 feet below me along with the floor. Apologies for the long rant but I am sure after your index controller video many other people may have these issues that could use troubleshooting help. Thanks
Thanks that was a great video/tips. Problem SOLVED I have a brand new PC: X570 Auros Elite Motherboard - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X - MSI GeForce RTX 3080 - 32 GB RAM. I have my Reverb G2 for more than 1 week and from day1, I was struggling to get it connected to the PC ,initially error in Mixed Reality Portal 7-13 . This was solved by using a powered USB hub (from DeLock). Then in DCS the Reverb G2 disconnected almost constantly from the computer. [ Critical:The device HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset G2 (location 000b.0000.0003.008.004.001.000.000.000) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.] Your tip of changing in the BIOS the PCIE to Gen 3 (it was on auto) solved everything. The game and headset no longer crash. I can even use all the different USP ports from the motherboard. Keep up the good tips
Hi, since I connected te reverb g2 to my pc the pc is not turning off anymore if I want to shutdown the computer , if I remove the usb 3.0 first then is does.. strange... ever came across that?
Hey man! Thanks for a good video. I have my g2 working with dcs but will not launch msfs, please help. Im running xrtool mrp, windows 10 updated. Dcs works fine. I have open version 40 Ann premium deluxe nsfs.
FIX! One HP REVERB G2 controller is lit but doesn't work. Try repairing the controller on the bottom left icon in the Windows Mixed Reality Portal under "Setup Controllers" This worked for me.
Hp and systemactive are not giving any customer service to people who backed them and gave them money for 6 months...if you have an issue, your only option is to get your money back..no RMA whatsoever... Disgraceful imo Edit: finally got a case open with HP who say they will RMA the controllers. Hopefully there is an end in site😲
I agree that the current situation is bad, but if they don't have enough headsets for the people that ordered them yet, where would they get a replacement right now?
@@RiftTraveller Hi John, it is called contingency planning. Every product has a fail rate. This should be part of any basic plan when manufacturing. Hi Sebastian. There are a lot of reports now about the small sweetspot and brutal sharpness falloff in the G2. Some say it might have to do with foveated rendering if the GPU is not enough. Is this something you are aware of? Or did HP send a batch with bad lenses? My headset is sharp in maybe 15-20% of the image, everything else is a blurry mess. I run it on 1080ti. Not the latest but no slouch either...
1080ti here too, its not the gpu's fault. The vr cover is way to thick. Pull the cover off and try to get your eyes as close as u can get them to the linses. In my case fov and sweetspot increased by a ridicolous amount. From this moment I am playing with cover completely off. I will make a comfy nose cover by myself till they realease a official ultra slim one. Let me know if it works.
@@speedofsilence Thanks, tried that. FOV gets bigger for sure, but the small sweetspot and sharpness falloff is more or less the same. Maybe a tad better but that doesn't say much
The troubleshootinng guide mentions a stiff connector to the headset. Man, they aren't kidding. I had to really push on mine to get it to seat. Voila! Headset recognized. Thanks for this video and the links!
THANK YOU! I didn't wanna shove it because I didn't want to break it!
A few are getting dodgy cables, the fact its so long doent help and im sure thats why so many are getting usb problems
Glad I could help you!
MRTV you are the best; thanks for your hard work and dedication to VR!
I’m in the same boat bud. Looking for help. Pretty depressing to learn how many things could go wrong.
Have had the Reverb G1 for 12 months and just got my G2 a few days ago. The G1 is better "HANDS DOWN". No one has mentioned this but the G2 has less depth of Field. this is huge in sim racing!
This is a great video. Your German efficiency and attention to detail is greatly appreciated. Thank you sir. 🍺
You're the man!! Plugged the g2 into an extra 3.0 usb port hub and my it came back on!! Wasted over an hour trying different things :///
My x570 was the problem, thank you!
Mine as well but it’s still not working. I switched everything to GEN3. No good. ☹️
Mine arrived finally from Bestware today. Excellent comprehensive troubleshooting video Seb thank you! VR Cover incoming.
Great! How do you like it so far?
I'm using Duracell 1.2v 2500 mAh rechargeable batteries they work fine. I've used these with Oculus and the HP Reverb Pro (1) and now with the G2.
I heard disabling steamVR reprojection improves performance for the G2, I guess I'll have to try both. Thanks for the controller binding tip.
You are welcome!
(Great idea Sebastian and a big thanks!)
Now I just love this headset. I have been playing Medal of Honor (Oculus version over Revive) and it looks and plays great!
I ordered mine through Connection on 9/3 and it arrived 12/15.
Great! So glad I could provide value to you!! Enjoy the headset!
My G2 comes tomorrow....Finally! Very timely video, Thx Sab!

Audio problem solved:
I had an issue with sound that worked, then stop working, then working back, and so on during my sessions.
Got my shipping notification. Should get it next Tuesday. I have to say, im pretty nervous. This thing better work and not give me problems.
@@thelektryk When did you get yours? Are you having all the issues?
@@OhItsThat I was beating myself with thoughts. Quest 2 or G2. Didn't know which one I should buy but considering how awesome it suppose to be with G2, according to MRTV, I was leaning towards G2. I almost completed buying process, but I knew I'll need Rtx 3070, so in the end, luckily, I didn't buy either (Q2 or G2). To make my waiting time for Rtx better I pre ordered CP2077. Now I see broken promises in both products. Reviewers lied about CP2077 and I think it's very much the same about Reverb G2, isn't MRTV?
Yes - I am still waiting, but thankfully this help exists and I have some place to look when I run into issues
I’ve got the same graphics card, it won’t recognise the g2’s
Oh god thanks you saved my day with this! I was already crying in frustration over the sound especially during beat saber
the USB connection is definitely sensitive.
Found a video yesterday that fixes this and depending on your system can make a huge difference. ua-cam.com/video/8H0yDefnqMA/v-deo.html
Maybe MRTV can make a separate video about this.
Damn... same here... I really had to push it in until I heard a click. Was nervous about breaking it too. At least now it says Error code: 7-14
@@ThriveDesign I got that too but simply had to unplug the headset and plug it back in. Now to tweak it so I get better than 6 seconds per frame. :D

Dude. If I had watched this one video before I got it I would have run into zero issues. LOL thank you for this video.

Same issue here with my Z490 Mobo and an RTX 2070 Super. Nothing works. I might have to return mine.
Very interested video as always. MRTV do you know how decrease lcd panel brightnes in G2 like in standart monitor? Thx.

Thanks!
oops corrected it to say "I haven't seen ANY GPU benchmarks comparing different nvidia GPUs" - Hopefully you got what I meant!

I’ve had my reverb for a little while now, and it’s been pretty difficult with audio bugs, afk issues, the works, but pretty good so far. How’s your experience?
Great video man. Ran into some audio issues and this helped a lot
Was yours switching back and forth too? It’s so frustrating cause it just swaps randomly when I’m trying talking to my friends in VrChat and I end up missing half of what they say! Hopefully this solves my issue.
I had several issues with my HP Reverb G2. Solved after updating my RX 5700 driver.

Knocking the bios back to PCIE 3.0 sure helped with the audio problem but did not completley stop it but it sure helped.
This was suuuuper helpful and clear. Thank you very much for your help.
Sweet spot is worse than G1, many G1 users are returning the G2. Mrtv pretends G2 sweet spot is better lol

Bad start for the G2 :-(
thanks for that tip about pushing the headset connector right in, that was my problem too
@@alfie8472 you're welcome!
Great show.
Stellar job. By far the most informative and pragmatic VR channel on the UA-cams.

Thanks for this video. There are still bugs I'm working out (on a Ryzen 5800X + RTX 3070 of all things!) especially the PCIE 4.0 support thing, but this helped out with a lot of the issues I had.
Good video, keep up the good work!
Troubleshooting?! I thought it was amazing!
Oh it is, when it works! Therefore: troubleshooting!

@@leshkraven I think they last 4 to 5 hours per charge, not too bad since I have 4 extra that can always be ready when I need them
Hi
I am unable to move in TestHMD/ROV_Test_Beta app (I have the latest 1.2 version).
I finally got it. I can hear but not see.
My first VR headset so I am excused for that ! lol
Glad that you made it happen!
My G2 came with a separate sheet of paper with additional instructions that clearly showed that you have to do it.
I switch to the Reverb had a Rift before, but now my Skyrim game is REALLY dark even outside are the face almost black when there is no direct light,
just switch the headset did not changed the game.
I’ve been waiting for this video. Learned a thing or two.
Maybe it’s a point you should raise for the future videos explaining in a better way how the beginner will discover that « issue »

Hi, you would be surprised how small it is on other headsets. I have them ask to compare! This one is one of the better ones.
Your headset sags down naturally causing you to lose the sweet spot often. You can put some weight on the back to help keep the headset balanced more.
The top strap needs to be adjusted to hold the headset in the right spot vertically, and the side straps need to be tight enough so that it doesn't shift during play. It is like that with any headset.
Thank you for your videos! I have been trying to set my reverb g2 for a week now. All
I get is an error code 15-4 when trying to set it up via Microsoft Mixed Reality.
3 issues:
Problem SOLVED
I have a brand new PC: X570 Auros Elite Motherboard - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X - MSI GeForce RTX 3080 - 32 GB RAM.
Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.]
Your tip of changing in the BIOS the PCIE to Gen 3 (it was on auto) solved everything.
The game and headset no longer crash. I can even use all the different USP ports from the motherboard.
Keep up the good tips
Wow I am so happy to find out that my video could help you!!!
Disgraceful imo
Edit: finally got a case open with HP who say they will RMA the controllers.
If all you do is sell while customers( who waited 6 months) have broken units. Then your profiteering on the back of you core supporter's. This is basic supply and demand tbh
@@DougieWotherspoon No argument here. Shipping to retailers before pre-orders were filled was bad form too.
@@RiftTraveller I'm certainly not happy with them and never heard of treating customers with such distain. That said, if they man up(and it looks that way now) then at least they are finally realising there duty to there customers. Here is hoping eh!
@@RiftTraveller from proper planning. Do you think apple bring out a new phone and cross there fingers and hope they all work?, they don't. They plan for failure(as do ALL major manufacturing including HP printers)..
Let me know if it
works.
@@speedofsilence Thanks, tried that. FOV gets bigger for sure, but the small sweetspot and sharpness falloff is more or less the same. Maybe a tad better but that doesn't say much
@@henrikbengtsson3566 hm strange, sorry to hear that. It works very well for me. Guess this is really individual.
Is thunderbolt 4 compatible with Reverb G2
