I remember the old movies and pictures of the guy who started Point Blank shooting himself in the chest with a 44 mag wearing the vest with a trauma plate.
I’m guessing ’The black Vest’ thing was inspired by the SAS -Operation Nimrod (circa 1980 London) when they raided the Iranian embassy. The SAS were cool!
I was on a working party cutting our unit's flak vests up for disposal when the kevlar came in. They both sucked but at least the kevlar didn't have decades of sweat stank fused into the vest. Ah...1980s Marine Corps.
Alright guys. I absolutely love the content & simplicity. The first book I read was by Coch. I’ll spread the word at Ft. Benning. I subscribed this morning. 😁👍👍🇺🇸
Some of Coch's carriers remind me of my furst aviation body armor. Thick a kevlar/nylon, steel plates wrapped in kevlar and gel. Weighed almost 40lbs. During aerial gunnery, your legs would go numb cause the plate sat on top of your thighs and cut off circulation.
I found that a little weird 101st we had green molle carry back 91. Humvee. Was painted white with sand to camouflage it also the armor was just sandbags with the soft top FiST 13f
I didn't realize Coch went back that far. I wonder if he knew Dick Marcinko (the mention of Green Team made me think of it as I think that was a title for a book of his).
In Black Hawk Down author Mark Bowden reports the Somalis called the Delta Force operators ‘black vests’ and they definitely noticed a difference between the way they acted and the Rangers and other UN protection forces in Mogadishu. So it seems they were wearing the same black nylon vests that Coach was issued in 1995 shown here at 5:50. Maybe they inserted ballistic plates and Kevlar inserts and maybe not.
Green was the predominant color since World War 1, and particularly a primary designated color for NATO in Europe. It's also a far more applicable color for the majority of the United States. Technically the last war prior to issuance of that old pre-2000 plate was Desert Storm, with Mogadishu since then, so it probably just people thinking what matches better with most gear, and no one thought of FDE yet
Coch…did u ever spend time in Darwin, Australia? I met a few SEALs during Ex Kangaroo ‘89…& I swear you might’ve been one of them…ur face seems really familiar ? Haha Maybe not…but thought I’d ask ? Looks like ya'll just copied (adapted) a lot of Police gear. Kevlar body armor, 5.11 clothing, etc. were made, advertised, and sold with Police in mind. Military was usually issued certain gear instead in the various companies minds.

Love you guys chemistries......
Second chance was my first vest! Cost me $150 and the dealer just had me pay what I could when I could. Still buy my own, last one was like $850.
Called a chicken plate because when in a transport aircraft you would sit on it like a hen , in hopes of not getting shot in the ass while in flight .

The man! The myth! The legend! Coch

Lovin' it, appreciate you guys

I remember the Brit’s and the Aussies had a plate smaller
This is some good stuff. Keep it up
In the early days......4 inches of steel left over from battleship gun turret armor. Kind of heavy, but pretty effective.

I would like to know about the evolution of webbing I know that today is integrated with the plate carriers
Great video. Worth to mention that modern era plate carrier design was inspired by Polish special force "GROM" innovations.

Is there a name of the plate carrier Coch raided Iraq with?
Maritime Load Carrying System for anyone that curious.
Did the Condor Gear Hold up ok.?
Thanks In advance
Yes. It’s very well built.
Dorr showing off some comedic chops!🤡✌🏽
I believe pilots in Vietnam called em chicken plates as well. Maybe one of those guys can say why they are called that
The chopper pilots did call them that.
Maybe 1995 movie Heat helped put ammo on the chest 😆 🤣 😂 😹
My new favorite channel, but I got to ask what’s with the black beard?
Wow
Did the 2 seals that went into the drink in 2024 ever get found ?😢
Need to do helmet video: You could throw Tac'Packs at your intern wearing helmets
Coch did one awhile back on the ones he started with up until the ones they're using now.
