    Hello everyone, I've returned!
During this trip, I opted for minimal gear to experience a cold night in the forest. I used my tarp to create a spacious shelter, set up a perfect fire reflector, and enjoyed a delicious dinner. Check out the video!

It's nice to see somebody on UA-cam splitting wood with an axe instead of their good belt knife. Using the right tool for the job is always wise.

Someti es you don't want to carry an axe. My fire/ cooking set including stove, pot, saw and knive weights about 700 grams and is always with me while hiking.

I don’t carry an axe because usually I’m out there for a week or two and I find it as extra weight also i get little use out of it because I only use floor wood for my fire

You'll freeze to death camping that way in winter. May as well have 4 walls. There are 1 person tents now for the ultralighters. So no excuse not to have a tent. Your backpack and gear wont get dirty either in one either.

I never did understand this setup. You can get a ultralight one person tent. You get 4 walls. Also a floor so you dont have water pooling under you or get yourself or your gear dirty. And if someone or something gets the drop on you, you dont want to give them any advantages by having no barrier. Also things like snakes can come in. Theres a ton of reasons lmao.

The way you use that hatchet, is an accident waiting to happen. Pretty wild, bro. Stay safe and look up for proper technique, please. This is an honest concern from someone who made the same mistake and ended up with the hatchet in his leg. This wasn’t fun, I can tell ya!

@@bushcraftcampfire to be more precise: I was referring to you chopping down in that log of the fallen tree.
Try keeping the log between your legs and the hatchet. Stand parallel to the log and chop off the twigs on the opposite site of where you’re standing. One unlucky hit or a bounce off from the stem may result with a visit to the ER (been there, done that). I was incredibly fortunate to only cut through flesh, not catching my shin or major nerves or bloodvessels.
Iirc there are very good videos from Paul Kirkland (very seasoned UK Bushcraft instructor) about technique working with small hatchets.
I considered myself quite experienced with tools, axes and hatches until this unlucky moment. And I’d really like to spare you that experience!
Stay safe, looking forward to more content from you!

@@user-hk6te4bv6i, four years ago our scouts did not prepare their sites at all and two boys sat up personal solo tents in the low spots. It rained the second night and the scout master had to trek them into town, 15 miles away to do laundry since ‘everything’ was soaked. Two years ago those same boys were the ones making sure they were not in the low spots and made three other boys move out of the wash ways to prevent their flooding.
