    The most critically important thing I've learned from years of watching your videos is to use the right tools. I've purchased so many on-off, infrequent-use tools that I've seen you use which make these jobs so much easier, safer, and less possibility of damaging your parts. The thickness of wrenches for muzzle devices has been a real bitch to deal with forever. Problem solved by Forward Controls, it appears. Heading to their website right now to make a purchase. Thanks for this video!

      I have the FCD wrench but I've also used a bench grinder and ground wrenches down before. Works just fine, deburr it though.

    These videos have been very helpful with my first AR build. Pointed me in the direction of the tools needed to do the job right and fcd products.

    There's a way to do this with math, for what it's worth. If the barrel has 1/2 x 28, that is 28 threads pre inch. That means one full rotation will move the break 1/28" or about .0357" (which is 0.907mm since the shim kit is in mm). You can then just divide by how much of a rotation you are off. Example: try the brake with no shims: if you are off by 1/3 of a rotation, you'll need about 0.3mm worth of shims (or 0.6 if you need to go the other way). It gives you a decent starting point. If between sizes, you round up, cause you can always squeeze them down a bit.

    These are finally back in stock. Mine shipped the same day of the order and arrived two days later. Super impressed with the level of effort there, but also the quality of the wrench at first blush. Brilliant idea here. Thanks again for sharing this, #nsz85.

    If you tighten muzzle devices on reaction rods, there is a chance of causing misalignment and other issues with run-out on your barrel extension. Mount the barrel directly in a vice with some soft jaws. Make sure you don't tighten down more than 20 ft lbs. The best way to turn a 1 MOA barrel into a 6 MOA barrel is tightening the muzzle device too much.
    P.S. That's a really nice CMT mlok rail. I have 2 HDM rails. 😉

    Great video! I went with forward controls designs (in collaboration with Revival Defense!) 6315rf which is a shortened (1.74” overall) a2 birdcage style (man does FCD LOVE that a2 birdcage, and I do too!!!) suppressor qd mounting muzzle device for q/rearden mounts! It’s freaking perfect for me as I use a eccomachine adaptor on my otter creek labs polonium k. That eccomachine has a 1/4” flange thickness. The direct thread adaptor that came with the suppressor has a 1/2” flange (and no muzzle device obviously) but with the fcd/rd6315rf…..I get about 1/4” shoulder from muzzle device, and 1/4” flange thickness, which means that I only added 1/4” overall length when adding a suppressor. Being only 4.8” overall (without adapter) when adding eccomachine adapter on 6315rf= 4” overall added to barrel length. Mine is 12.5” and ends up 16” flat mounted can. Now a 16” fiddle doesn’t count muzzle device and the standard a2 birdcage is 1&7/8” long. My suppressed 12.5” is 16” total while a 16” is actually 17.875”! Winning the ballistics/cqb war!!! I’d love this setup on a 13.7” fn cl/chf barrel build!

    Timing muzzle devices is always a minor PITA. Having the right equipment does wonders though. Rocksett is definitely my go thread locker for anything that gets hot. Holds better, yet is easier to remove - if needed - than stuff such as red loctite.

    • @hellraiserrec19
      @hellraiserrec19 2 роки тому +1

      Honestly if you torque it down to 20-25lbs you dont need the rockset. Helps if you ever want to change out muzzle devices. Rockset is a pita to remove

    • @jimyeats
      @jimyeats 2 роки тому

      @@hellraiserrec19 Not in my experience, at least using a suppressor host. A muzzle device at just 20-25ft lbs that is super hot that you are trying to get a suppressor off of has almost always loosened on me when there is no Rocksett or some other compound. Rocksett is way easier to remove than a red thread locker, again, in my experience.

    The Forward Controls joint muzzle device wrench is out of stock everywhere I've looked. Any hidden gem, little online retailers you know of who have it in stock, nsz85? Or if the FCD guys might've let you know when they expect to be selling it again? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

    If your muzzle device doesn't need to be timed, do you need shims? All my muzzle devices are flash hinders from OSS and don't require timing, haven't installed yet cause cans are still in jail

    • @nsz85
      @nsz85  3 роки тому +2

      The most important thing is that it is lined up to prevent baffle strikes. Sometimes shims can assist with that. YMMV.

    • @brorx4475
      @brorx4475 3 роки тому +2

      No shims should be better, you should still get an alignment rod but shims could possibly make it worse.
