Perfectly honest video and it’s good to see a perfectly honest video when the quality of any consumer purchased item is an issue. If the quality is lacking and the manufacturer is not addressing the complaint that a consumer has about the item then it needs to be brought to everyone’s attention so they will know before making a purchase!! You have done exactly that and we all applaud you!! Excellent job!! Thankyou very much!! Now let the money speak for itself!!!

Thanks for upload.. After many years I've gotten through many brands of kit like most here.
I'm currently using an MSR Hubba NX. It's a 1 man tent, fit's into a small space, great head room, sturdy and ultra light. If I want more space I use my old but trusty Terra Nova Quasar, not ultra light but it's geodesic frame makes it a 4 season mountaineering tent and 2 entrances. But it took a few months of saving up to buy these tents, don't think I'm rolling in money, I'm not.

Dan there is only one tent that you need mate and that is The Snugpack Bunker...its bombproof and 4 season and you get a solid bang for your buck. When you get neg responce from a suplier just never buy another thing from them....Black Diamond are fantastic ...Hagloff are terrible . Snugpack are fantastic too not sure about others apart from Osprey who are amazing....Dont give them your money if they dont provide reasonable after sales service .

Hi Dan. I have the bobcat 1. When I first set it up I did it the same as you with the tent laying on the floor and found it difficult putting the last end of the pole in. However the next time I put one end of the pole in then stood up with the other end in my hand and used the ground to bend the pole and the second end which was at waist height went in the hole fairly easily. I have done this a few times now without a problem. This might work on other oex tents. Ken

I have the Rakoon 2.1 and the poles fit perfectly my issue with the tent is the head and foot ends have no tie out points and any kind of wind blows the flysheet up and lets rain in, I don't know who designed it but they need to get themselves out camping with their designs before they mass produce them i added two tabs and bungee cord and it solved the problem but people shouldn't have to do that, when you're messing up the basics of tent pitching you need to take a step back and listen to feedback. Atb Colin.

I bought a Bobcat just before you made this video. Set it up at home and found the same problem with the poles being too long. I cut ~3/4" off of the pole and it fits now. The poles have a small plastic end piece and it looks like it could be that OEX specified the overall dimention and the manufacturer made the aluminum pole to that dimension making it too long by the lenght of the end pieces at each end. It's a shame since otherwise it's a great tent, especially at the price.

The Coyote 111 is the same. We have used it 4 times on short weekend breaks. They’ve been ridiculously hard to get the poles in, impossible on your own nearly. This weekend, one bent and one wire snapped because they are too tight to put in and really let’s be honest not fit for purpose.

For me living in the U.K. any tent that has to pitch inner first is a definite deal breaker. The manufacturers need to look at their customer base before churning out stuff that will be a disappointment and probably a lost sale!🤨

    • @dawngriffiths6804
      @dawngriffiths6804 2 роки тому +1

I found a mod today that fixes this issue of inner pitch first. You just get a short piece of paracord and thread it through the sleeve of the inner tent and then attach the fly via the tabs. The inner and outer are then connected. :-) Here's vid showing: ua-cam.com/video/xRtdYd3opNM/v-deo.html

I got the bobcat 1 yesterday. The pole was tight but mine was perfect. If it didn’t fit just return it. How much are these too long by?

I have a Phoxx 2 v.2 and have no issues with it whatsoever. Just make sure the pole sleeves on the inner tent are centred on the top of the assembled poles before putting the pole end into the eyelet. They are supposed to be tight.

Mate I have used oex tents for years the poles are too big it's nothing to do with the pole sleeves,, I could understand your point if it was just me having this problem no no it's a lot of people

@@englishwoodsman As I say, I personally haven't had any problems. I just suggested making sure the pole sleeves were centred, as it can make a difference.

Honest report Dan thanks. Crux of the matter is doesn't matter where designed but they're made in China... no quality control there. Bushyboy Oz.

Demonstrate it. Go all outdoor gear review on them.
Luke ain't afraid of demonstrating a product being crud, especially a tent.

Vango have the same problem, always filing down a section of pole to make sure it fits better. Since the production has moved to Bangladesh I’ve noticed a big improvement in quality from Vango and OEX. I can only (naively) hope the workers get paid a decent wage but going on the cost of the tents I highly doubt it 😕 The Bangladesh workers are superior in stitching and overall quality of production.

Hey Dan, L personally have no issues with my Rakoon 2.1 regarding the poles. I do have a few issues with it quality-wise but the poles, fortunately, aren`t one of them. OEX isn`t the only company with pole issues, I owned a NorthFace Expedition 25 when I lived in Canada and it was $1,500 CDN and it had a very similar problem that is occurring now with OEX. My NorthFace made in China, says it all. A cheap labour force with lower Chinese standards for quality control equals more profit for the company and frankly, companies like JD Sports don`t care. The fact that they sacked the original OEX quality control team after the buy-out says it all. Greed and profit rule business anymore. The other thing is JD Sports is a Multi-National Company and making tents is just one more product to them, there`s no passion or love for camping behind it, your quality control team aren`t avid campers with a love for the outdoors, it`s just a product to mass produce for profit. To them, it's no different than making underwear or socks!
Keep up the great reviews Dan ..Cheers

It's a massive shame that a company doesn't listen to their customers. Profit margins over customer loyalty. It won't take long for people to move on to other brands and retailers.

I have a Phoxx 1 V2 and they poles are way too long. How does this even happen?! 😂 Surely they have a set specification. I can just about get the poles in but it's so tight that it creates two very uncomfortable ribs running along the groundsheet.

I have exact same problem with Phoxx 1 V2. Discovered the problem at 2am on a campsite in Portugal whilst trying to put the tent up for the first time. No way the poles will fit without ripping the fabric or breaking the poles. NOT a happy camper.
Slept in a collapsed tent. Slept in an Air bnb for rest of my trip.

My Coyote III is a bi*tch to get the poles located. I use it with the missus and if I ever injured my hands on a hike she wouldn't have the strength and would find it impossible to pitch or pack away in an emergency.

If JD SPORTS is American then it would explain the bad service. Used to work in automotive industry a decent British company. Then sold on and brought out by Americans. There was a massive change in the relationship between workforce and management. Tour us apart and just assist stripped us. Went for cheap parts over quality and the products really went down hill. Not saying that all American companies are the same just my experience

There seems to be a pattern with these companies , they initially listen to feedback from users such as yerself, build up a customer base through recommendation and then seem to get a bit Cavalier letting their customer service slide . Theres clearly an issue with the poles, no point OEX burying their head in the sand & Ignoring stuff. Sad that they wont respond , particularly since they probably have had a lot of extra sales through people watching your channel.

Tell them the outdoor community are going to boycott their tents in favour of similarly reasonably priced 3F UL Gear and Naturehike tents instead of they don't sort it out.
