I'd be more worried about what the inside of the tank looks like, than the outside. Somebody needs to track this guy down, and take that great big hammer away from him.
It’s best to heat cast iron, then weld it, and immediately bury it in sand so it can cool slowly. That will give you a much better chance of a successful, strong weld.
A little tip, when you connect the wires, put the cords in on the left side of the screws, because then the screws will pull the cords in, if you put the cords (as you was doing) on the right side of the screws, then the screws will push the cords out. By the way, a nice job.
Agree with all comments. Heat a bearing , cool the shaft and it will drop on. Opposite for fitting in a case. Spent my life stripping and repairing well used machinery of all types, wish I had known about that magic spray that made nuts and studs free so easily when rusted in. Finally, hope the pressure test on that rusty pressure tank went well!. But interesting video.
An excellent painstaking restoration my friend as to the inside of the tank rust I'm no air compressor expert so I cannot comment good or bad but I felt you did an excellent job a very very time consuming job with an excellent outcome. It looked really good after you succeeded in restoring this old junked machine.
Well done. 👍 Btw, thanks for not insulting our intelligence by showing a compressor that you "just happened to find" sitting in a field for years-but with green grass/plants still growing under it.
I rebuild compressors , and have done for over thirty years, looking at the way that pump is working, I would say that your not pumping efficiently, the valves need sorting out, it's only pumping at 55%
My man..hammering the bearing will damage it. And also the will dry out. You need to remove the plastic zo the bearing can get lubrication from the motor oil
There was no inspection of the INSIDE of the tank. Air compressors are extremely dangerous as they can explode if rusted from lack of maintanence and care. Recently one of my cousins was killed by one of these. This is no joke!!!
I’m sorry for your loss I just attended my grandpa’s/PawPaw’s funeral by the time of me making this comment I know that feeling all too well but don’t let your cousin’s death pull you down he knows that it’s just fate playing it’s role and he sees you and your family are going to have a great life you deserve to have your cousin and you will have a great rest of your life Amen
I’m sorry sir but pressure receivers air tanks do not explode due to rust in them. They always have rust in them. The only way an air receiver will rupture is in a overpressurization situation.

Yes they supost to check in side because white the pressure exploded happened before is condensation of water best thing to do is make one the stain steel look nice outside but better be on safe side
beautiful job BUT. no pressure check of the tank??? it could become a large quantity of cobalt blue shrapnel. also no balancing of the drive wheel. if it's unbalanced it could tear itself apart.
That crack. You can just weld over it and grind it down, but it'll cause a vibration. Better would be to grind both sides to a wedge and close the gap, then fill it with weld and grind it smooth. That would ensure the roundness of the wheel and reduce vibration.
Loves battering stuff with the hammer ! ,and we all knew what was going to happen with the puller and the big pulley.......bit of heat and it would have fell off....
Nice work on the air compressor.. I'll give you some advice, you need to restore that wheel 🛞 barrow the first chance you get, so you can haul more stuff home to restore...😊
@@necsoiub i’ve been in the field for over 30 years air receivers. Do not rupture due to rust. Sorry it’s always over pressurization. The tanks are always full of rusty water and rust. Do you really think a tank manufacture is going to make a tank that’s going to rupture because of rust being in the bottom of it. If this was the case, this sure would be happening a lot but it only happens to a very small little air compressors why? ? The little compressor is running along and it’s starting and stopping using the pressure switch contacts.then one day the contacts weld them self shut or closed. Then you have a runaway air compressor. The only thing to keep the tank from exploding at this point is the pressure relief valve. If that fails, the tank will explode or maybe the discharge line might blow off to save the tank from exploding and that is how that happens.
Nice rebuild. Lucky for you that it was only the valve block that needed work. The pistons, rings and barrels looked perfect. I rebuilt an Ingersol Rand compressor once and I wasn't so lucky. And I couldn't get spares because it was a model that was obsolete in 1960! It still worked famously, though.
I got 16 minutes into this and couldn't watch anymore. That tank's WAY too far gone to be reused. It showed heavy rust pitting on the outside, so god only knows what it's like on the inside. A ruptured tank is enough to kill anyone standing close. It's unpredictable, and even at 100psi, it has enough stored energy to launch the whole of that compressors mass into the ceiling, or across a room and to kill someone. If there's ANY question about the condition of a tank, it's always best to replace it, or do a wet high pressure test to check it's not going to rupture at normal working pressures.
Excellent restoration. Well done. Although it needed a new engine I was impressed with how solid and well made the machine was. I am sure those elderly people will be amazed by your work.

This was painful to watch. No regard for brittleness, banging on the cylinders with a metal mallet, snapping the main pulley and then “repairing” it with superficial welds. Made it about 27 minutes in and stopped. Hope this tank hasn’t killed or hurt anyone.
I wouldn't trust such a rusty tank for a second without testing it.
